Punches way above it's weight class.
I've had pro multi-thousand dollar audio interfaces and honestly this is just as good for 90% of people's uses. Sure if you're using ultra high end microphones, recording classical instruments at a ridiculously high fidelity you'll undoubtably find issues.
For a bedroom/small studio producer or podcaster this little beast will absolutely kill it.. Behringer is the most aggressive audio company on the market.. You get a ton of value for a budget price.. A must buy!

I don't know, It is 2019, I would not have imagined this type of simplicity in recording 30 years ago.
I have been using a mackie 24/96 for 18 years. I bought this unit for my house computer setup. It works great with ubuntu studio.
frankly, it is mostly used as a bad ass sound card that I can output to a variety of speakers.
It does record nicely with no problems, and is east to set up recording situations for overdubbing and such.

Great quality for an affordable price
I purchased the Behringer UMC404HD to pair it with the Behringer AMP800 for my podcast recordings. And this audio interface truly delivered. The build is pretty solid and it could have came with a better more clearly documented manual nonetheless, the overall build is darn solid. The sound quality is great and the device was simple to configure and quick to get started. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking to record more than two inputs at a time. Plus Behringer gives out a nice bit of entry-level recording software to get your podcast or in-home studio recording started.

Playback output has high noise floor (hiss)
I purchased this unit based on the price and reviews. I was in the process of connecting my computer, guitar amp, and stereo system and was intent on using this as the hub. Everything works as advertised, but an annoying hiss was introduced into my stereo when things are (should be) quiet. I have a DBX range expansion unit that I was able to employ to limit this annoyance, so the unit will serve its purpose. If I had known of this shortcoming before purchasing, I would have looked elsewhere. I didn't contact tech support because I didn't open the unit for several months after purchase. I just assumed that any return window would have been exceeded. I hope they've addressed this problem with the unit by now, but I've seen no mention, so I don't imagine they have.

When it works it's fine, but when it breaks you're screwed
TLDR: Buy at your own risk. Assume that if it's outside Amazon's return window (30 days), you're not getting a replacement ("warranty" or not) because their customer support is literally uncontactable.
This audio interface worked great at first. It's affordable, the audio quality was fine--everything seemed great. But then one day, about a year after buying it, it broke without explanation. I tried to contact customer support, but as far as I can tell they are literally uncontactable. Their online support is through a third-party, and you have to create a "care ticket," but the website DOES NOT LET YOU SUBMIT A SUPPORT TICKET. When you press submit it just shows a loading button that never goes away. I've tried this on multiple browsers on multiple computers. I've also tried contacting them via twitter. No facebook contact option. They no longer have a customer support phone number either, or an email address listed.
If anyone has a way of reaching them, please let me know. I've been trying for weeks...

Completely indistinguishable in terms of sound to Scarlett (and likely most other brands)
After an actual scientific experiment I can finally conclude that any alleged sonic differences between modern pre-amps largely amount to superstition and pseudoscience.
Many people claim that Scarlett "sounds better" than Behringer. I saw a lot of Youtube videos doing unscientific things like playing two different takes into the two different pre-amps and then people comment "oh, the Scarlett sounds a bit more warm" or "oh, I can totally hear the Scarlett sounds a bit more detailed". How do they know these subtle differences weren't because of variation in technique or mic placement? (Hint: They don't). It's actually scary how quickly people will put aside critical thinking faculties and just accept that whatever is being compared is the cause of all those differences in sound.
So I did what I've never seen any Youtube video do: An actual scientific comparison between the two, using an XLR splitter thereby feeding the exact same signal from one mic into two different pre-amps. I don't know why no one ever did it this way before, but I presume it's because they know there'd be no difference and hence generate less views.
Please note I am not allowed to link to the actual comparison sounds because if I do, amazon will delete my review. However, anyone interested in actually scientifically comparing two different interfaces should use the following method: Use an XLR splitter from the *same* microphone into the two different interfaces, level match them, and do a blind test.
What learned is that in this day and age, the only way a more expensive pre-amp could "improve" the sound is by changing it in some way, like adding vintage distortion. If all you need to do is amplify the signal from your mic and keep the original signal unaltered, you no longer need to worry about what pre-amp you're getting, because pretty much any of them will do the job perfectly.
P.S. the product I compared was the 404HD. I saw a Youtube video of a comparison with the single-input Behringer and it did sound legitimately worse than another interface. One possibility is that the single-input Behringer really does have bad sound quality but the ones labeled HD are virtually indistinguishable from more expensive pre-amps.

Used to be wonderful, now it's an absolute nightmare
I purchased a UMC404HD a couple years back to records multiple microphones for a few podcasts I produce. Things worked great with the occasional issue of the device not being recognized by the DAW. Problem happens on multiple computers, but with a bit of troubleshooting it starts to work.
Have some success with a podcast so the studio undergoes major upgrades including a new PC. Decided to continue using the UMC404HD. This was the biggest mistake I've made. The drivers refused to install the first six times I tried to install. The PDF documentation instructions state you are to unplug the device, then install. The YouTube tutorial tells you to connect the device to install.
I am finally able to get the drivers to install and now I have IN 1-2 and IN 3-4 instead of Line. This means I can only record two channels at once since in all DAWs I am forced to choose which two inputs I'd like since they've been split. Reinstalled the drivers, same issue repeatedly. I have a Behringer UMC1820 installed in a Gator case that still works with my laptop that I may need to rip out and install in the studio, but I'll probably see all of those channels broken down into pairings as well.
Searched the internet high and low. Plenty of people with the exact same problem. Absolutely no support or solution. I went to Behringer's website in hopes of support, but I have been redirected to an outsourced company called Music Tribe which makes me build a "profile" and "join a tribe" before I can even click "Support" to try and get assistance, and of course I have to submit a ticket and hope to God they get back to me before my next recording session.
Some of the worst customer service I've ever seen in my life and absolutely the least accessible. I should have upgraded the audio interface with the rest of the studio as this does not seem to play well with professional equipment.
TLDR; constant driver issues, 4 channels split into pairs so only 2 are usable at once. Product not operating as advertised. Avoid at all costs.
