Before I purchased this dryer I had a big silver conair dryer that put out a lot of air. The Babyliss TT is definitely better. I didn’t notice a significantly shorter drying time with this dryer, but my hair is definitely smoother. I have thick, fizzy hair with a lot of wave/curl, so I still need to straighten after drying (it’s not magical, sadly) but the Babyliss TT definitely helped me cut back on styling time.
(Sidenote: I use the blue babyliss titanium straightener. I’ve had it for 8.5 years old and it still works perfectly despite being dropped onto our ceramic tile floor more times than I can count, so I’m a huge fan.)
As far as the other reviews on peeling paint: I did notice that the paint on the handle started rubbing off slightly after awhile, but it wasn’t nearly as noticeable as some of the pictures here. My handle was a subtly lighter red than the rest of the dryer, and I never noticed paint in the bathroom or on my hands. I wonder if high humidity and/or hair product use could contribute to the peeling issue? The finish on this dryer isn’t glazed, so I can imagine that if sprayed with hair products (or held in hands covered in product) it would be more prone to rubbing off. Maybe?
Anyway... overall, I like the dryer. It’s slightly on the heavy side and I wish it had a glazed finish, but my biggest issue is that it’s now $30 more expensive on Amazon than it was when I purchased it two years ago (and I had looked at it multiple times before buying, and at least once it had gone on sale for $15 less than the price I ended up paying).
I came here to repurchase this dryer, but I think I’ll try to shop around for a better price or look something else that’s slightly more affordable. I’ll probably leave this in my cart to see if it goes on sale. If it does, I’ll snag it so I have a backup for when the next dryer inevitably dies.
However, it did have very short life span of 1 year or so and I had to buy a new one after it stopped working so I would not recommend this product as a dryer at this price should be built to last more years in my opinion.
Our family did use this dryer every day for just over a year and it worked well while it lasted but not sure why it died and stopped working after just 1 year...
People have commented on the buttons being in a place that makes it too easy to accidentally turn it off, or change the heat setting, and while this is a bit of a problem, being left-handed, I have yet to find a dryer that doesn't do that for me. So, what else is new? I'll adapt as I always do. It just such a great job on my hair, I don't care about the placement of the buttons enough to make it a big deal.
Of note, most hair dryers have the handles angled in such a way (i.e., away from the drying end) that it causes you have to hold your arm up at an exaggerated angle to dry your own hair, which causes your arm to tire out quickly. I don't know why so many brands do this, because most dryers on the market are for home-use/self-use. However, the Babyliss Pro handle is angled toward the drying end (see the product photo) so you don't have to extend your arm further out at an angle and your arm doesn't tire so easily.
I love this dryer, it's well-made, I'm glad that gave it a try, and it is part of my daily hair regimen.
I decided to try it on myself first. I timed how long it took for me to go from towel dried to mostly dry (just a tad damp) and it only took THREE MINUTES. I couldn't believe it and actually checked to be sure my clock was working properly. Because it's been so long since I blowed my hair dry I can't say how my hair felt compared to other hair dryers. I CAN say that I didn't feel any difference between my hair after I used this hair dryer and if I let it dry naturally. When I deep conditioned my hair it only took 5 minutes for me to go from dripping wet to slightly damp.
This dryer is not as loud as my other dryer and doesn't have that high pitched sound that bothers my daughter so much. I am able to blow dry her hair quickly without a fraction of the distress my cheap dryer causes.
I am VERY pleased with this purchase and feel it is worth every penny.
The reason I gave it a 4 rating is because of the handle. They are flip switches and when I grip the handle it changes the settings or turns it off. I am having to train myself to hold the handle differently. I attached a picture to reference.
***Updated 11/7/16 This dryer is still working perfectly. I have gotten used to the button/switch placement but did take a little time to re-train myself. Would still highly recommend this dryer.
I was using the el cheapo Revlon brand "ionic" and "tourmaline" hair dryer I picked up at Walgreens for $29. If you have never used a good hair dryer, THERE IS NO COMPARISON. The cheap kind fry my hair, slowly. This kind actually makes my hair feel healthier and shinier, with less intense heat. I don't know exactly why the ceramic heater does that but it does exactly as it says. I picked BaByliss because the brand kept appearing in online reviews, and because it was available on Amazon with free shipping. I picked the middle price $79 version because I like the option to blast my hair with cold air as it sets on velcro rollers. But I don't need twenty power and temperature settings.
This dryer is much lower weight than my previous fancy model, but a little heavier than the cheap one. It feels substantial and well made in my hand. I love the red color; it adds a shot of color to my neutral bathroom. The buttons are comfortably located and after a month I have yet to accidentally hit one and change the settings.
I told my hairdresser about it and he agreed that this is a very good brand and well priced for what you get.
I want to give these as gifts to all of my girlfreinds!
I had no idea it could get better. Oh, it can.
Today I was so excited to try this blow dryer out that I took an early afternoon shower just to use it. I experimented with the temperatures before using it on my hair - the hot is HOT and the warm felt hotter than my old blow dryer, so I went with that on high speed. I usually have to wait for my hair to mostly dry before using my other blow dryer lest I'm standing there for an hour, but with this one I went to it with still really really damp hair. The thing is just amazing. It dried REALLY quickly and left my hair so smooth and shiny yet still with awesome, gorgeous volume. Once I did my whole head with high speed, I turned it off and grabbed sections I wanted to tweak the ends of, and I used low speed (still warm heat, not high) on those sections individually. The results are so soft and bouncy and perfect, I stood in front of the mirror for ten minutes playing with it. I'm in love.
Guys, gals, anyone with hair - if your results are anything like mine, buy this blow dryer. It took me a lot of time to decide to drop the money on this, but I regret nothing. Totally worth it.
The time it takes to do my hair is now cut in half. I don't have to worry about burning myself on the flatiron. Also, I won't fry the heck out of my hair with the flatiron anymore, which has necessitated so many repairing products over the years.
Some other reviewers have mentioned that, due to the placement of the cool/warm/hot and off/low/high switches, they have changed settings mid-blow dry. I could see how this happened, and I did it once too. All I did to adjust was point my thumb up the handle of the blow dryer instead of curling it around and problem solved.
Seriously. Buy this blow dryer. I can't wait to do my hair again tomorrow.
I'm seeing random comments about the placement of the buttons - can't say I've ever noticed them being inconvenient. I love that I can change the settings without even looking. You do get used to it.
Anyway. 5/5. Do it!
