This monitor has stellar reviews on both YouTube and Amazon with many saying it's one of the best gaming monitor in existance, so I'm frankly shocked with how God awful it is. Seriously, this is hands down the most atrociously awful picture quality I've ever seen in a modern monitor. Out of the box colors are just beyond unacceptable and text is very blurry.
I have a 2014 100% SRGB Asus monitor that I bought back in 2014 for photo editing and, out of the box, it blows this thing out of the water with not even close to a comparison. I got this because I thought the high refresh rate would be nice for gaming but the colors are so bad I couldn't even tolerate a few minutes of playing.
I understand that some monitors need to be adjusted out of the box but the picture quality is so horrible that I don't want to mess with it and I don't think it can be improved to even get close to how good my 120$ six year old monitor looks. I am immediately boxing this up and sending it back.
I'm truly amazing by how awful this monitor was. I'm sticking with what I've got now

It's a 165hz monitor. It's large at 27in, anything bigger would really start to look bad at 1080p and up close. Works well, the base is sturdy and height is adjustable. Always inspect for dead pixels and other issues when having a tv or monitor shipped to you, use the Amazon Prime A-Z returns guarantee promptly because most companies now have policies where they will not replace a monitor if it has only one or two dead pixels. Amazon has their guarantee though so go through them first if you can.
Only minor downside with this monitor is it came out of the package with poor picture settings. I had to tinker with the settings way more with this one than with any other one I ever had prior by a long shot but this is again a minor downside. Once you get it dialed in you won't have to deal with it again. I started by choosing a preset setting that looked closest to how I had my old monitor was set up and then went from there. Expect this process to take a day or two as you adjust it to your surroundings and your eyes. For me brightness had to be toned down quite a lot, and the Trace Free setting needs to be dropped to 40 or below otherwise you will have ghosting/blurring issues with text when scrolling or browsing online. This is an issue I never knew about because I never had a monitor that could go faster than 60hz, so hopefully I save someone some time on that.
It has actual buttons you have to press in, not those crappy tactile sensors you touch on accident and the monitor shuts off. Color quality is not quite as good as an IPS screen but it's still very good, the higher refresh rate makes up for the barely noticeable loss in color and if you take the time with your settings you will never notice it. Viewing angle is much larger than any of my previous Acer IPS monitors (but those were in a completely different price range at either $90 or $120 for 22in and 24in) and my wife has no problems looking at something on my screen even from a very oblique angle.
Very happy with this purchase as long as the monitor doesn't break down. I care for my equipment and protect it with quality surge protectors, proper maintenance and cleaning etc. I still have computers and monitors from the early 90's working in my basement. The only reason things die on me is hardware fault from the manufacturer such as a bad solder working loose on it's own or age-related stress such as fan bearings getting old and hard-drives which are essentially time bombs holding your data hostage. I will take proper care of this monitor and will update this review in the future if there are any problems or give an update if it's still running as it should.

These monitors are sold in a very deceptive way, almost on the border of downright lying.
The VG278Q is a good monitor, but it is a TN Panel. When I purchased at least, they had all of the categories mixed together for all of the monitors they have listed in this section. The out of box "Racing" setting is garbage. There is arguing that. Everything is blown out, and the colors are terrible. It has one of the most disappointing out of the box settings I've ever seen. No other profile can be customized on the monitor, just the racing one. With some fiddling it can give a good image.
The deceptive marketing does not stop there though, the monitor is listed as G-Sync Compatible, but that comes with some large caveats. The box just states G-SYNC without distinction. This is not compatible with all cards that are GSYNC compatible cards. Anything that is less than a 10 series GTX card will not work with the 'GSYNC' on this monitor.
I am honestly going back and forth on returning it.
If you're considering this monitor, at this time I would say go with one of the lesser brands. No point in buying a name brand TN when the performance is going to be the same as any other garbage-mill TN panel.
At the time I'm writing this review you have to visit the ASUS website and read through the entire blurb on it there to find that it requires a 10 series GTX or newer to work with GSYNC.
Whatever though. That's both ASUS and Nvidia. I understand not supporting the 9 series cards at this point, but I don't understand why they would cause this type of branding confusion.

Simple plug and play to your computer, then have your computer detect the monitor and don't forget to go into your settings for the display, advanced settings, then display properties and change the refresh rate from what it's at to the full 165Hz. A common mistake to forget this, it's not the fault of the hardware or defective if the refresh rate doesn't live up to the desired effect, make sure your settings are correct and you should have no issues with the monitor. Looks great, no screen tearing. The packaging is great, very well protected; ships with an HDMI, VGA, and Display port cable as well as the power supply. Makes the installation process go even faster.

Despite the fact that I got this monitor for only $250, I think is overrated. The text is horrible, now I get tired reading. 3D Games seem ok, but there is no much difference with my old monitor. 2D games in the other hand look horrible.
I wanted to keep this monitor because I really hate packing it, and make all the tedious return process, but is becoming unbearable. I tried all the configurations possible , I even put the monitor far from my face to avoid the eye fatigue. "Scenery Mode", "Racing Mode", "Cinema Mode", etc. old horrible presets. Not sure what VividPixel does, but didn't help.
What really worries me, is that I cannot longer rely in the internet reviews.
What I liked from the monitor is the stand, and the monitor OSD with the little "navigation joystick", but I hope I can return it.

I picked up this 27inch monitor as a telework need that can also be used for home gaming. The first model I received was returned through Amazon due to a bright pixel, the second has been clear. The picture is sharp and the options provide plenty of opportunity to tweak the settings to your liking.
You can swap between two computers via the HDMI, Display Port (or the DVI, if that's your preference). The button interface on the back side of the monitor is different but was easy to adjust. I appreciate the preset blue light filters, but I'd like to see more adjustment within these for personal preferences.
The monitor is very adjustable and has a decent viewing angle in horizontal or vertical.
Cons:
- Don't pick this up for the speakers, they are weak and tin-ey sounding. It's not a detractor for me as I use a headset, but figured I should note this for anyone considering this monitor for the speakers. My laptops have better speakers.

I was looking for a G-sync friendly monitor for my new Alienware R9 rig. I play a lot of RTS and FPS games so I wanted fast response time without sacrificing quality. I need a dual monitor setup as well for work. Pleased to say my test with the first monitor went very well, the picture is gorgeous and incredibly smooth at max quality (Witcher 3, GR Breakpoint, Doom, Death Stranding all look incredible). I will say you will really need to tweak the built in monitor settings occasionally based on the game/genre. But overall, I am really glad I got 2 of these monitors for $600 total instead of dumping $1000+ on other premium brands. ASUS seems to always come through.

only problem so far has been one stuck pixal that has started working again after a little light rubbing with a soft cloth, if you need a brite display this is it ive had to turn the briteness down twice as its blinding on white pages,has several anti blue light setting and many gaming settings expecially for fps, the manuel is about useless as it doesnt even say anything about the setting or how to set but once you start working with it there very easy to change and can save custom setting for quick change also very easy to adjust hight and angel comes with a 3 year warrenty with free shipping inclueded for usa and canada ground only

I would say the tradeoff for image quality is a bit too much for a monitor like this. My eyes get strained when staring at this for too long. (VG278QR). Text bleeds and things are blurry in general, so it seems very TV like instead of a monitor..
Getting the full 165Hz was a bit tricky as well. Their included HDMI cable only gave me 120hz. I used the included DVI cable to get the full 165hz.
Speakers are kind of garbage.
I like the stand and the position-ability of the screen.
The price is cheap, but I would have rather picked a slightly lower framerate for a bit better picture quality.

Phenomenal monitor for a decent price.
The only complaint I have was the mislabeling on the actual box it came in. The online item description clearly states that it is NVIDIA but the box is misleading because it says "AMD free sync." It wasn't until I checked the monitor settings and capabilities through my computer and found that is was indeed NVIDIA. Just thought I'd share incase someone else gets the same misleading information on their box.
Other than that, pretty solid monitor. Best feature is the zero frame. Makes me want to go zero frame on all my monitors.

I used to be a console pleb (I still am to some degree). I had a single monitor (Asus vg245h) which had 75 hrtz. This monitor is great for console gaming because most console games do not make it past 60fps, but after finally joining the PC master race, decided to add another monitor to my setup.
You know how a lot of people say you can't see past 60fps? Let me tell you something--There is a huge difference between playing on a 75hz monitor vs 165hz monitor. It's hard to put into words, but my reaction time when playing a game like warzone was way faster Playing on this new monitor than the old one.
The image quality is very good, but I don't exactly know how to tune it. I just scanned through the reviews/online forum to find a setting. I then made some additional changes to the contrast and brightness.
The ONLY problem I have with this monitor is the sound quality of its speakers. Let's be honest, they're trash, but lucky for me I barely use my PC/PS4 without headphones so I don't really have to worry about it. My old monitor's speakers are pretty good too so I can also use them in case I need to charge my headphones our something.
I definitely recommend buying this monitor if you do not mind the bad speakers.

This might have to be the worse image quality I've seen on a panel in years. No matter what I do to the settings it looks like the top is always dim and color shifted. The viewing angles are particularly bad even for a TN panel. There is literally no distance you can find where the colors are shifting. Even dead on the top of the monitor is a dim yellow and the bottom is a cooler white.
The response time is great and gysnc is incredibly smooth. But I cannot imagine anyone who would be happy looking at this panel.

I had several issues with this monitor. Luckily Amazon is great with returns!
This monitor came with several dead pixels. I downloaded and ran UDPixel overnight in an attempt to free any "stuck" pixels. It did not work. Some are directly in my center line of vision. It's completely distracting. I have a glaring white one that is dead center about a third of the way down the screen. My eyes are drawn to it constantly.
The HDMI port also did not work. Yes, I know how to change inputs on a monitor! Display Port and DVI work fine, but the HDMI does not. At this price I feel like I should not have to overlook a few dead pixels. If they were not in my center line of vision and the monitor was closer to $175 in price MAYBE but factoring in the non-functioning HDMI and it seems like quality control is going down hill with ASUS.

Bought this gaming monitor from Premier Audio Video and it stop working in less than a month, while in use it just blank off this after spending almost $300 is very disappointing. While thinking the seller will replace or refund me because of the time the product lasted, they didn't care Contacted the seller Premier Audio Video and they acted like they don't care. They sent me an invoice and told me to contact Asus warranty/replacement and that they don't know how the warranty/ replacement works with Asus . I've been shopping on Amazon for years and never came across a seller like this. Don't ever buy from Premier Audio Video they are very unreliable and don't seek their customer interest

I am still awaiting my computer to arrive so no opinions on that yet. I'm currently testing it on Xbox One X and it's beautiful!
Looks just as good as my 4k Vizio, just a little closer to my face :)
+Built in FPS counter
+Easy to setup base
+Looks great and very customizable
-The built-in volume is either broken or very quiet, it'll go from a low sounding TV to nothing. Not sure if my Xbox is still setup to use my home theater or something but I can't seem to fix it. Will update when I get my PC!

I've been gaming on PC for quite a long time, and haven't invested in a good quality monitor, I finally caved and bought this monitor. The picture quality is amazing, the brightness and vividness of colors are like no other. I do not have a single problem with this monitor, even have some cool extra features. I love the stand it comes with, I feel like its very mobile to put it in the best position for me. The stand also has a little cable management hole which is amazing for people who want their setup to be extra clean. 10/10 highly recommend this monitor.

Best BANG FOR THE BUCK FORSURE! Tried various acer monitors within the same price range and offering the same specs. Definitely no regrets and the best ive seen so far.
Update: display is awesome... BUT... the aux in on my monitor has stopped working. My PC wont recognize it at all. I ended up plugging it directly to the pc for audio > speakers... vs plugging it in the monitor for sound. Not a big deal in my situation but still upsetting the aux stopped working 2 days into the purchase.
Update a month in: white light bleeding got worse.. not sure if its my settings but my benq on like settings doesnt bleed this way. Same type of display system too..

Received an exceptional product at an insanely low price!!
I was worried after reading some reviews and thought I'd be an unlucky recipient of dead pixels or the brightness/color settings not meeting expectations. But it was all for nothing! I have always been a huge supporter and fan of ASUS and once again I was not even slightly disappointed.
[I used to play Counter-strike: Source with the best teams and players (i.e. Team Dynamic) and have moved on to casually playing CSGO, but that didn't take away from my competitive edge. So my need for a high quality monitor with high refresh rate & low response time without killing the bank were the focal points for a monitor.]
It's insanely fast, personally coming from 60-75-85hz monitors this was HUGE (144<165 hz [21 frame difference] make it even more edgier.) Then to top that it boast a 0.5ms response time (exceptionally close to a CRT monitor) which, compared to the industry standards of 1.0ms-5.0ms, is massive for an FPS player relying on reaction times. So it wins at these but then it comes in WAYYY BEYOND the typical price range at $250?!?
SOLD & HIGHLY RECOMMENED!!!

I have the monitor connected to my gaming laptop via displayport to USB-C Thunderbolt which still supports any of the refresh rates up to the 165 advertised, but that's a cable I had to buy separately. It comes with all the normal cables you'd need though. The speakers on the monitor are garbage, but that's expected in my experience with monitors, so I'm not really taking that in with my rating.
The picture is great and the controls on the back of the monitor make it very easy to navigate menus to mess with options to get the picture juuuuust how you like it. Color range is great, response feels instant. The range of motion with the stand is really nice to have, especially since I have a desk with an adjustable height. It's easy to adjust the monitor when I move the desk so any position is comfortable.
Only thing to really be aware of is a 1080p resolution on a 27 inch screen. Things are gonna look a liiiiittle blocky if you look closely. In games that shouldn't matter too much, even low anti aliasing can cover it, but outside of games, you'll probably notice it. For me I don't mind it, but if you think you might, you're better with going for a ~24inch screen for this resolution.

This order arrived in about three days and boy was I excited. It came neatly packaged as expected, I don't really use the base mount because I have all my monitors mounted on a table arm. Upon powering on, the colors were very appealing and my eyes weren't screaming into the brightness. I can't wait to play long hours of gaming, it is surprisingly big for a 27" and I love it! This was definitely worth the purchase, I might buy a smaller one as a spare for my trading activities. Great products! A++++

The 27" 165hz model is very good. I would definitely recommend this to gamers seeking a great high refresh-rate experience. The 0.5 response time is also appreciated. I haven't experienced any ghosting or smears. Some people may dislike the 1080p 27" nature of this monitor since text will be slightly pixelated when browsing the internet or reading, but for games this isn't an issue at all if you have any type of anti-aliasing applied. 10/10 for me!

First off i wanna say that overall this is a great monitor. The brightness and graphics are all really good and great for the price. Keep in mind that this monitor is BIG lol i wasn’t expecting it to be that big but that’s probably just me, the stand and monitor angles are easily adjustable, you can spin it completely upside down or move it higher or lower or make it face down or up. It’s easy to set up to. It comes with any plug you’d need btw. My only problem is that the speakers are just....horrible lol. Keeping in mind that this is a gaming monitor so 99% of people are gonna play with a headset but when you wanna relax and watch YouTube or something the built in speakers are very quiet and bad quality but for me the price i got it it was definitely worth it. Could always buy an external speaker. Also another thing that is important to me is my eyes and i can say that playing on this monitor for a couple hours and it being close to my eyes has not bothered my eyes at all compared to other monitors.

We spent $250 for this monitor. It has a 165mhz refresh rate. My son loves it. It was a big upgrade from his old one and its not too big to fit on his desk easily but is also not too small either. Contrast looks good and the images/graphics for Fortnite are excellent. Bought him this for his new build and it fits the graphics card well. It comes with three cables to hook it up a DP, an HDMI and a DVI. We used the DP and it works great. I recommend this monitor. It is a lot of monitor for the money but certainly not high end.

So I ended up getting this monitor instead of the LG monitor and to my surprise after 2 weeks of purchase I got screen tears. So the reviews are correct, a brand new monitor and its getting screen tears. (Always happens when I game but anything else none). I even sent it back since my warranty was active to have it fixed. After two weeks of not being able to do work/game I received it back....AND IT WAS STILL BROKEN. A little worse now on the edges. I should of went with the LG 27GL83A-B.

Long story short: I had the 1440p version of this monitor before this which was $630, and I had blue and green lines burn through the screen. It got worse over time. So I downgraded to this monitor and its ok. But the picture quality difference is definitely there, obviously. If your on a budget, get it. If you want a reeeeeally nice monitor, upgrade to the 1440p. The difference is absolutely MASSIVE, but the risk is there.

Headache inducing brightness, even with the settings turned way down. All personal settings are destroyed by simply highlighting a different blue filter within the OSD.
Scenery mode = all settings to maximum (looks horrible)
Racing mode (default) = bright with low color saturation
Cinema mode = dark blue hue applied and yet still bright and washed out
FPS mode = ultra white, bright, yet provides the least blurry text
sRGB mode = racing mode part 2. Very gray.
Moba mode = grayscale with the red channel pumped way up. Makes no sense.
The monitor is not for reading text, it's for gaming, and I get that. However, there's little you can do to strike a balance between work and play with this thing.

Ordered a few of these. And I am glad I did. Love the fact that they and a on/off buttons so when not using the USB hub you can turn off the ones your not using. Get for charging phones, adding exterior drives. Anything you want to plug it. It's awesome. Great Price. Highly recommend. Will be ordering more.

I am really dissatisfied with this monitor, but hey, at least it has a high refresh rate and a moderate MS.
If you use this monitor only for gaming you can tolerate it, however you should buy the 1440p version. things are noticeably ugly and the colors are dreadful

I was so excited for this monitor, the day I got it I set it up and that's when I noticed the screen was cracked and I couldn't even see 1/3 of the monitor. Very unlucky but also very unfortunate that these monitors are out of stock or the prices are 50-$60 more here on Amazon. I'll be going with a different monitor and brand from now on.

The monitor I received was dead on arrival. The backlight would turn on, however it would not display anything. Tried all 3 connections (DVI-D, DP, HDMI) to no avail. Display adaptor selection, factory reset, and all other display settings are nested inside the main OSD menu, which would not open. I was able to successfully test the control lock functionality, however that was the only thing that seemed to consistently work. Repurchasing would have left me waiting a week for a replacement, however Amazon's replacement through their returns was going to add an additional 2 weeks onto that time frame. Resolution from ASUS would have taken even longer.

Using it flawlessly at 165hz for COD/Overwatch.
Nvidia recognized gysnc installing. Had to fiddle with some settings to get monitor to output 165hz bit once I did wow!
Been accuse do cheating 5 times since getting this monitor and honestly never had that happen before lol.

Amazing features for the price, does not cheap out on anything important (I bought on sale for $240): Works easily with G-Sync, 165hz, 0.5ms response time, IPS, great colors, good brightness, very good quality screen as well as the overall build.
