This last go-around was with this B550 based Prime board on the release date 6-16-20 (really 6-18-20 with the shipping). I likely wouldn't have left a review but I just got an email from Asus begging me to leave one so.... here it is.
Setup: current BIOS as of this review, using NVMe m2 RAID using Dual Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB drives. 64 GB RAM (specs below), and Ryzen 3900x, Fractal Design everything else.
It still:
- Requires a driver disk to get current Windows 10 to install :/
- Using RAID 1, a single drive can't be put in an external reader to export critical data in the case of a main board failure. [HARD STOP]
That - to me - is far worse than no RAID at all - and which is point 1 why I am leaving a less than stellar review. The amount of time taken to sort this all out was staggering for an engineer who has been building only custom Intel based systems for decades and is also used to the Dell model where participation in RAID 1 doesn't preclude being able to remove it and read it externally. Perhaps I just had too many high expectations.
Point 2, I also can't get the "G.SKILL Trident Z Neo (for AMD Ryzen) Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin RGB DDR4 SDRAM Desktop Memory F4-3600C18D-32GTZN" RAM to work in a 64GB configuration at full speed (4 sticks) using the BIOS setting to detect and use the proper speed for the RAM. I think it's stable at 35xx something but still disappointing. (shakes head). I have ordered an larger wattage power supply from Fractal but this is also pretty disappointing. Hopefully Asus can sort this out.
Other than that, it's a solid board, and is an amazing value for the money. It's also great to have a Mini ATX form factor and have the option for 4 sticks of RAM. I would have gone back to a X570 board but couldn't find an Asus one that supported 4 sticks.

Pros: it has WiFi (requirement for me). It's an Asus board, so it works with the AI Suite and the newer Armory thing. But basically the reason I choose Asus is the software, the AI Suite.
Fan Xpert tuned my fans automatically, allowed me to label each one and automatically set the low end RPM correctly. Every fan needs a slightly different curve but together they are quiet and cool.
Windows 10 detected the board, then auto downloaded and installed the armory thing, which you can use to download AI Suite and other apps.
There's 4 fan headers. Which is about right. The BIOS is still good.
The onboard lighting is subdued (and configurable). I can sleep without the board lighting up the room.
Cons : it's a no frills board. There's no power button on the board (which is a frustrating point for testing). There's an outdated IO shield that miraculously worked with my chosen case (to me it's a crapshoot).
You can buy better featured boards for less but I think the software that ties it all together is worth it for me.
So in summary it's a nice board if you can stand that it doesn't have every feature and doesn't have GAMER written all over it in neon lights.
But basically a low end board with WiFi added.

I installed a AMD 6 thread CPU to be connected to my Oculus VR head set 1.
plays all VR and regular games at high frame rates. (have a Radion 5700 XT graphics card)
the connections are enough for all kinds of accessories and the Wifi antenna works great.

My issue was with the packaging, which had the board loose in the box, which wasn't even properly sealed. An ESD bag seems like it would have been appropriate. It felt like it was actually open box (even though I ordered new), and there was one Chassis fan header that was bent out of alignment - I was still able to use this header after adjusting it.
Unfortunately, I didn't notice until I had already built my PC that one of the connectors for the Wifi antenna was sheared off and can't connect to the antenna. The good news is that Wifi does still work, and I'm not seeing a major issue with speeds.
