AOC 24G2 24" 1080p 144hz great initial impression
*picture shows size comparison next to a 27" monitor

This is my first time purchasing an AOC product. If the quality of this monitor reflects the quality of AOC products, then I am looking forward to purchasing more AOC products.

Obviously, my time with this monitor is short, I just received it a few days ago. But the stand is great compared to many monitors that cost 2x this much. It's very versatile and very sturdy. I'm a leg shaker and this monitor's stand does a good job of countering the wobble.

I have been using an MSI VA panel as my main monitor so I've become used to dark blacks and this monitor, imo, has just as good of blacks as my VA. I'm very pleased with how good the contrast is. I have 0 dead pixels, 0 backlight bleed, and I cannot see any of that IPS glow. I'm actually pretty amazed. I REALLY hope nothing goes wrong with this monitor. Again, I've never used AOC products before. I don't know what their longevity and reliability is.

If you're sticking with 1080p and want 144hz IPS @ 24".. I would say buy this. There is a 27" version, and I wouldn't get a 1080p at 27" but that's only because my desk is not very deep. If I were to be sitting further away from the monitor, 27" wouldn't be so bad and I might have considered it. Especially since I could watch stuff from my bed easier with the larger screen.

Personally I've always thought poorly of acer and asus when it comes to monitors.. I always read and see how poor their QC is. The main reason I've never purchased their monitors in the recent years. I've never had any monitors (that I've owned) actually break on me. I've owned Dell, LG, and MSI. My parents had an acer and it was just trash. It broke within a year. They also had a samsung. It also broke within a year. Granted.. they were cheaper end models and they have no idea what they're buying when they're at "best buy."

For 165$ I would recommend this panel to everyone I know. Amazing value for the specs.

NOTE: I did have to manually change it to 144hz in my gpu's control panel. Out of the box it was 60hz. I have overdrive set to strong.

Great Monitor for the Price if You Make a Few Tweaks & do G-sync Blackscreen fix
This replaced my Dell 2716DG, a gsync 144hz 2560x1440p TN monitor. I had always wanted to get an ultrawide, but couldn't bring myself to spend more than 500 dollars. This monitor was released and had the features I wanted at the price point I wanted. As with most monitors, the secret sauce is in the settings. I've never had a monitor that didn't look better after some settings tweaks.

This monitor has freesync instead of gsync. When I first used gsync in 2016 it became a must have feature. Then I built a new rig and moved from Windows 7 to 10. Windows sometimes breaks gsync, making the price premium for it no longer part of my purchasing decision. While this monitor isn't gsync certified you can enable it via the Nvidia control panel. At first I would get intermittent black screens that would last a few seconds with gsync enabled. Needless to say this was ruining my gaming experience, so I looked for a solution. First I downloaded new drivers from AOC's website and manually installed them. Problem persisted. Then I updated the driver on my 1080ti. Problem persisted. I tried using a program to change the freesync range which some people claimed helped. No dice. Finally I found a solution that worked:
1. Make sure freesync is set to ON in your monitor's onboard controls
2. Right click on the desktop and go to the Nvidia control panel
3. Set up gsync in "Set Up G-Sync"
4. Select Manage 3D settings.
5. Change "Monitor Technology" to Fixed Refresh
6. Select the "Program Settings" tab within manage 3D settings
7. Select the game you want to run
8. Change Monitor Technology to G-sync
9. Do this for every game you want to play with G-sync

For some reason this works. No more black screens! My rig is Windows 10, 9900K, 1080ti with latest drivers.

Coming from a TN the colors were a bit better, but it wasn't a life changing experience. Apparently my previous monitor was dialed in pretty good. The pixel response isn't as fast as my old TN, but after a few days I don't notice it anymore. If you aren't Mr. E-Sports tournament guy it won't matter. If you are that kind of guy you probably aren't even looking at this monitor as an option.

Now for the bad. The monitor often needs more brightness. Even with brightness set at 100 I still find myself upping the brightness in game settings. If a game doesn't have a brightness slider you can use "Picture Boost" in the monitor's on board settings. This is a great option. So why put it in the bad section of the review? The monitor doesn't remember this setting when you turn it off. If you need it for a game you have to reset it every damn time. AOC needs to update their firmware to fix this. It's keeping this good monitor from being truly great. Every time I want to play Assault Android Cactus I have to mess with this. Not cool.

Beyond the black screen workaround and the picture boost not being saved I'm happy with this monitor. It was great step up from my 27 inch TN, and now I can never go back to regular sized monitors. Size does matter. It will probably be another four years until a 4K with comparable features is released at a reasonable price. I won't be allowed to purchase another monitor until then since my sister in law dimed me out and pointed out to the wife my new toy. That's the last time she stays with us during her spring break.

Great performance, Build quality and image quality (after calibration)
Coming from an IPS display, i was a bit worried reading the review about color accuracy and image looking washed out and its True! Out the box. I thought about returning it, viewing angle was not great, color was off seem washed out as everyone mentioned, but after doing some research and missing with settings, i can say i am impressed. Colors pop and some how seems more vibrant and deep than my replacement IPS monitor. Viewing angle still not like IPS but who use the monitor at an angle? For the price and after calibration this monitor is absolutely amazing and exceeded my expectation. Also i get no flickering or any other anomaly mention about VA panel. Build quality and stand adjust great as well. Would recommend this to anyone who’s skeptic. I know i was at first.

Their warranty is a scam.
The monitor is very nice. I had no issues with using it, besides the OSD being a bit finicky. The few reason I bought this are because of the price point and the warranty. I bought it for around $430 and it was great. Give it about 4 months and I accidentally scratch the screen pretty badly. I think “well, okay I’ll just use their 1-year 1-time accidental damage warranty to replace it.” My first call to customer service and they had construction work in the background and my voice echoed so bad I had to put them on speaker. I ask to use my one time warranty, and get this- they didn’t ask me for order invoice, address, serial number- none of that. They ask what damage it was so I told them the screen was scratched. They proceed to tell me that the accidental damage warranty only covers cracked screens, which I say “BS” I’m on their website and they claim it covers “all accidental damage including monitors falling on the floor, acts of God, or even nuclear war. One incident covered, for up to 1-year from the date of the purchase.” So I say “you’re telling me the warranty covers nuclear war and all accidental damage but not a scratched screen?” And he says “I guess so.” So now I paid $430 for a decent monitor and a scam of a warranty. An absolute scam and a blatant lie. Either that or they need to fire that man and actually maintain their reputation.

Best budget 1080p 144hz gaming monitor
I purchased this monitor about a month ago, after researching like crazy all of the best budget 144hz gaming monitors. I went with this one because it is inexpensive (compared to other gaming monitors), has a color accurate ips panel (check out hardware unboxed's review on youtube), and has an excellent stand (which almost no other budget gaming monitor has).

My experience with it so far has been excellent, the colors are a huge step up from my old 60hz TN panel, 144 hz is crazy smooth, and the stand is extremely helpful. Honestly, the stand is a huge upgrade, because if you want to get a stand for any other monitor, it'll probably cost you around $20, and the added flexibility afforded by the stand is amazing. I use this monitor with a Nintendo Switch, an Xbox One, and occasionally some 144 fps Minecraft gaming from my laptop. Yes, I am not fully utilizing the power of the 144 hz because I do not own a gaming pc, but I plan on upgrading to either the next gen consoles or a pc sometime in the next couple years, so I am future-proofing myself. The only thing I can say against this monitor is I have one dead pixel. Now, there is that zero dead pixel policy, so I could return it, but I spent a month waiting for this thing to get back in stock, and I do not plan on doing that again. Also, the pixel is completely unnoticeable unless I set the screen completely white (which never happens in normal use), am looking directly for dead pixel, and get within several inches to a foot of the monitor, which I do not do except in rare circumstances. Oh and it is 1080p, but at 24 inches, 1080p is plenty for most gaming and other uses, it is pixel dense enough.

Pros:
- Great value for the price
- Great stand
- Color accurate ips panel (it's also fairly bright, at least for gaming)
- 144hz
- Long term warranty

Cons:
- 1 dead pixel (which, thanks to the warranty, I could get fixed if I wanted to, but it is unnoticeable)

In conclusion, this is an excellent monitor which offers the most value among all of the gaming monitors at this price range. If you are looking at buying a starter gaming monitor, get this, as compared to all of the cheaper 144hz monitors on amazon, this one offers better colors and a much better stand, making it a better value. Oh, and it also has excellent response times and a great warranty. I will update this review if anything changes. This monitor is hard to find, I had to watch amazon for a month to get it, but if you see it available for $180, it's an excellent deal.

UPDATE 1/21 (Original review posted 5/20): The dead pixel is no longer there, it must have been only a stuck pixel and I cannot see any defective pixels any more. Please disregard the parts of this review referring to the dead pixel. Also worthy of note, I am now using this monitor with an Xbox Series X and gaming at 120 fps using this monitor is an amazing experience. I cannot detect any smearing, overshoot, or other visual issues at 120hz. That excellent performance, combined with the amazing ips colors, only further cements this monitor in my mind as the current king of budget gaming monitors.

Pleasantly Surprised
Got this monitor (AOC CQ27G2) as well as the LG 27GL83A-B and the ASUS VP249QGR (yes I know it's 1080p) and I think I like this one the most. My biggest concern was the brightness as I've seen reviews of the display being laughably dim, but that's not the case for me. I've had to actually turn down the brightness every night because it hurts my eyes after a while. The colors are also vibrant, more than the LG and ASUS, which was a complete surprise for me as I've been told IPS panels were brighter and more vibrant than VA panels, but maybe I got lucky with my specific unit.

There is ghosting, but not enough to stray me away. It can be minimized significantly if you set Overdrive to Strong (or Boost but that greatly reduces the brightness). As for the input lag and response time, I'm pretty sure it's higher than the other monitors I mentioned, but I can't really tell a few ms apart. It's definitely not a "slow" monitor either way.

What really bothered me though was the fact I had a lot of backlight bleed. I was thinking about returning or going through a warranty for this reason alone, but I'm hoping that it would go away over time, which in some displays they do.

PROS:
- Brightness
- Vibrant Colors

CONS:
- Ghosting, but can be minimized
- Input lag
- May get backlight bleed

Great monitor if you can get it at the original price
Don't know how or why, but the AOC CU34G2X was advertised at much less than the comparable LG ultrawide only to find out when I checked again the price had basically tripled. So if you can get this at the original price this is a bargain.

The monitor build quality is great and isn't over the top like others with RGB and elaborate cases. The only gripe I really have is the fact that the menu's are driven with the old fashioned side by side button arrangement rather than utilizing a small joystick which would make adjustments much easier. However there is a simple remedy to this and that is to download AOC's g-menu utility from their EU site. Once installed all the monitor tweaks and customizations can be accomplished with the utility. You obviously need to have the monitor plugged into your PC via the provided USB cable, but that's it.
The monitor comes with a really good stand which is spring loaded to go up and down, turn left and right and tilt forward or back. You cannot rotate the screen. It also comes supplied with a display port cable, HDMI 2.1 compliant cable and the previously mentioned USB cable. The back panel offers several USB 3.0 ports as a hub.
Now talking about picture quality and refresh rates, ghosting, etc. is very subjective and I don't have professional tools to really give a data driven review here. I can tell that the very edges have a very small amount of diminished brightness, which is most abundantly noticeable with white background. I have yet to play any games with freesync turned on as I am still building up my Ryzen 9 3900X with 5700 XT card, but the couple of games I played (Control and Assassins Creed) the monitor has met my expectations. There are several customization settings available to fine tune the monitor to RTS, FPS and racing style games and each of them can further be optimized.
All in all this is a great monitor and I can't wait to see when this is first reviewed by one of the big outfits on YT.

wouldn’t recommend
The monitor overall itself looks great with an excellent picture quality for a VA panel. Color accuracy isn’t the best but it is decent, as well with good response times. There is a lot of black smearing and a bit of ghosting with medium overdrive setting, with the highest setting making it look unbearable. The menu navigating buttons are honestly terrible and should have been updated with a joystick like most modern monitors nowadays. Now for the biggest issue I’ve had with this monitor and lots of other people as well when researching on forums such as reddit for example, the freesync implementation is terrible and causes lots of flickering or the monitor just goes black and back on. When using an fps counter such as MSI afterburner or nvida’s , with the monitor’s internal fps counter , the frames never line up or sync together even at <48 fps which was the advertised freesync range. As far as I’m concerned the monitor doesn’t have LFC and this is most likely what causes issues and conflicts when using freesync. If freesync doesn’t matter to you then I can recommend , otherwise I’d stay away until the issue gets resolved as it seems to be a common issue with the monitor itself. For reference I have a 27GL850 with no issues with freesync.

Works with Ps5 120fps!
I bought this monitor specifically for the Ps5 after doing some research on what monitors would work with 120fps on console, and this wasn’t on the list so I took the risk but I’m satisfied. As far as I know, the 24” and 27” 1080p versions work as well for 120fps on Ps5

Works great for 6 months
This monitor checks all the boxes for a gaming monitor at a great price that also doubles as a productivity enhancing second screen for work.
Curved display is functional at this width without being too severe.
Default settings need to be adjusted for best display.
I can easily have two browser windows open side by side without them being too narrow.
Games look great.

The first one only lasted 6 months.
Powered up, but zero display.
Not even the "no input" message window.

AOC support said it was defective and it was covered under warranty, and instructed me to contact them via support form on their site (seems simple enough).
I did so, and received an email asking for some info about the monitor. I responded, then nothing.
I responded to the same email several times, and nothing.
So I called back and was told to follow the same process.
In the end, I had to call 4 additional times, and send another support form, which required me to resend all the same information.
From the time the monitor broke to the time I finally got my shipping label it took almost 2 weeks.
Once I finally received it, I needed to go to a UPS store and pay another $30 out of pocket to have the monitor boxed and sent back. The shipping was covered, but not the packaging. If only I knew I would need it 6 months later, I would have kept that enormous box it came in and saved myself $30.

After I shipped it out it took 3 and a half weeks to then receive a replacement monitor.
That amount of time isn't too bad considering, but it sure was a hassle to make it happen.
So far the new monitor looks fine, no dead pixels. We'll see how long it lasts.

In the end, I paid about $450 for a monitor that worked great for 6 months, then had to jump through a ton of hoops, deal with some seriously unfriendly support folks, pay more money out of pocket, then wait another few weeks to finally get back to where I started.
It's a good monitor, but at this price, it's not worth taking the risk of getting a dud.

Low budget ultrawide and Comparison with LG 34GK950F
UPDATE: After playing a couple games with G-Sync enabled on this monitor I had to lower my review further. With adaptive sync enabled about every 30s this monitor turns OFF and ON, this takes about 2-3s to complete. And on top of that the monitor also has the VA Flickering problem.

Value for the money you would be hard pressed to find something better, aside from the Xiaomi Mi Surface 34", which uses the same exact panel, as does the Nixeus EDG 34. Color, specs, and performance would be equal on those 3 monitors. Only differences would be the OSD (The menu system)

If this monitor didn't cost only $450 I would have returned it by now. I also own the LG 34GK950F, which I paid full msrp for on release, 3x the cost of this monitor, for very similar specs.

Colors are great, not as vibrant as the LG, that is to be expected as the LG has a much wider color gamut at 98% DCI-P3 vs the 94% here. It doesn't seem like a big difference in the numbers but it is a noticeable difference.

Gaming, the display looks great as seen by the Witcher 3 picture above. I suggest turning on HDR Game mode for this particular game, there are a couple other modes such as HDR Picture, HDR Movie. Normally I turn on Fastest overdrive setting in monitors and its usually not too bad, especially with Freesync/Gsync enabled which can minimize the effects of overshoot depending on the monitor. However the Fastest setting on this monitor is unbearable and completely unusable. Medium setting is simply not enough and has a great amount of ghosting sort of like if you turned off overdrive completely on IPS and TN monitors. I can't really comment on black smearing as I haven't tested really dark games and content, but from the little I saw it is there and will depend on how much you're okay with.

Movies/TV content. For Tv shows aka 16:9 content, this display is okay, you'll just get black bars on the side. Tv shows and movies in wider format than 16:9, even content formatted in 21:9? Cannot be displayed fullscreen. There is no scaling or aspect ratio setting that correctly displays 21:9 content fullscreen on this 21:9 display. Check the pictures. You can scale SOME content properly through Windows, software scaling. But the monitor itself cannot.
If you're looking for a monitor that you can hook up a Firestick or Nvidia Shield or Roku to watch content on, this is a dealbreaker. My 18 year old LCD TV has more scaling options than this 2020 Monitor. Btw 1:1 scaling mode is broken and stretches images sideways, see Lost in Space img2. There is a 27" monitor emulation mode. But then you may as well buy a 27" monitor. Not a problem for the LG it had all the aspect ratios you needed and scaled all content very well through the monitor settings.

Buttons, 5 buttons on the bottom, easy to get used to, sucks to use. 5way joystick should be standard in 2020, I can overlook it as a budget monitor.

Blacks, this thing has great blacks, panel uniformity is great on my particular one. No backlight bleed unless looking at the monitor from an off angle, which then you can see there are 4 points of backlight source, 2 on top, 2 on bottom. My LG had minimal backlight bleed that was not noticeable in most content, but was almost unbearable when trying to watch a movie AND IPS Glow was a great issue on bottom left when playing games, even in bright areas. VA panels don't have IPS glow and have minimal backlight bleed so it definitely feels better in this regard.

HDR, kind of a pain to use with this monitor. With the LG HDR was pretty much plug and play like with the Firestick for example. Just turn on HDR in the firestick and the monitor automatically detected HDR and adjusted settings accordingly. With the AOC you have to go into the painful OSD again find the HDR setting and switch it from either DisplayHDR, HDR Picture, HDR Movie, HDR Game. And with those HDR modes on you cannot adjust any settings.

Pros:
Great blacks
Wider color gamut
144hz
3440x1440
No IPS Glow

Cons
Firmware bugs in OSD
Missing Aspect Ratios in OSD
No 5way Joystick
Black smearing
Ghosting (slow pixel response time)
No Gamma Control
No Color Accuracy control

All in all the LG costs twice as much as this AOC monitor and has its own problems with IPS Glow and Backlight bleed, but those issues are attributed to the panel lottery as they say and you may not have those issues. As such if you are looking to just play video games on this monitor, not a bad deal. If you need color accuracy, any sort of calibration, this isn't the monitor to get. If you want to replace your TV and watch movies, do not buy.

Personally for this price, I will keep this monitor, but I will be replacing it with monitors releasing in late 2020.

So far, rather satisficed!
I purchased two of these and so far I am enjoying them. I have played DOOM Eternal at 144hz without any issues. I did have to turn the refresh rate on the screen to "overdrive" to avoid ghosting however. The screen looks great, the colors look great, overall, I am very happy with my purchase! I will update in the coming months if issues arise.

One of the best gaming monitors under $300 you can buy.
I have been currently using this monitor for the past two and a half months, and my experience with it has been an interesting one.

Firstly let's get the specs out of the way. This is one of the cheapest monitors that you can buy that gives you 1440p, 27", 144Hz refresh rate, Adaptive Sync, and 1ms response time. Most other panels of this quality are around $300 minimum, so getting this for $260 is a steal. In addition, the stand for being a budget monitor is fantastic. Giving you both tilt and height adjustment is unheard of at this range. No corners were cut here. The picture quality is fantastic as well. QHD at 27" inches is a treat to look at (I was using a TN 1080p 24" 60Hz monitor before). Also the control quality is fantastic as well. AOC's promise of a 3-year zero dead pixel warranty and 1-year accidental damage is extremely generous compared to the rest of the competition. If you do encounter a problem you should not worry about your few hundred dollar investment.

Now here are some caveats and issues that I had faced with this monitor in the first month of use. For my PC I am using the AMD RX 5700 graphics card, which has always been prone to driver bugs and issues. During this first month of use, I had times where the monitor would not detect the GPU output and not switch inputs over to the connected HDMI. I would have to reboot the monitor entirely to get it working again. This however has been fixed with the latest AMD Adrenaline driver update. In addition, I had issues with how Adaptive Sync worked with my GPU. The most glaring issue being when I enable a custom GPU fan profile using MSI Afterburner, the monitor would go black for seconds at a time, and would occur every half minute or so. I would need to turn off my custom fan profile and suffer higher GPU temperatures in order to use my monitor. However, the latest AMD GPU driver patch fixed this issue as well. As of now, I have no issues with my PC detecting my monitor or face any strange issues with the display turning on and off.

Aside from driver issues, the usual caveats with VA panels apply to this monitor as well. You have great contrast ratio with the better blacks than IPS or TN, but you do suffer from poorer GTG response times. This can lead to black smearing when your game encounters dark environments. I haven't noticed this smearing in my own use, however YMMV. Also, the brightness is definitely on the lower side at 250 nits. I would have really appreciated 300 nits minimum. I use this monitor in a dark room so 250 nits is not an issue, but if you use this monitor in a naturally lit environment you may struggle to use this monitor.

Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this monitor, but my first month and a half of ownership of this monitor could have been smoother. Though this was at the fault of my own hardware and not the monitor. I anticipate anyone with an Nvidia GPU would not have face the same issues as I did. If you have a flat budget of $300, I highly recommend this monitor (if it is ever in stock). Otherwise, I would try to stretch the budget to get a brighter IPS gaming monitor.

Great Budget 1080P Gaming Monitor
UPDATE: I was able to get 144 hz refresh rate by using a Warrky USB-C to DisplayPort cable between my Lenovo Ideapad 5 15 laptop and the monitor. Pointing this out to anyone who may have laptops that lack DisplayPorts.

Spent many days/hours researching through so many online articles and YouTube videos that I finally ended up with the AOC 24G2 as my very first gaming monitor. So far, this monitor did not disappoint. Set up was easy and the visuals/resolutions are amazing. I know there are some limitations to the visual settings and color gamut with the monitor. I am no way near E-Sports caliber so these limitations do not have a major impact on me. I can already tell the difference with game play on this monitor is light years better and more responsive compared to the laptop monitor.

I would rate higher but some general critiques with the monitor:
- Lack of lighted visual indicators with the monitor settings located on the bottom of screen. Found myself fumbling with the buttons a lot when adjusting settings and accidentally turning off the monitor numerous times. Thankfully you can download the AOC G-Menu software/app in order to adjust settings via the app vs. manually.
- No response or acknowledgement from AOC when I registered my product and to enroll in the warranty program. Read a lot of reviews with people having pixel/back lighting issues and had to replace the unit. Concerned with this risk in the event I have any issues with the monitor.
- May be a little time consuming to find your preferred settings but that is pretty much the standard with any new device.
- I am currently up to 120 hz refresh rate vs. the desired 144 hz. This could be hardware induced since my laptop (Lenovo Ideapad 5 15 with AMD RYZEN 4700U) does not have a Display Port and I am currently using a HDMI 1.4 connection. I am hoping a premium HDMI cable may help resolve this since I am currently using the HDMI cable provided in the box. I also read HDMI to Display Port adapters can only get up to 120 hz. Just wanted to point this out for consideration.

Overall, love this monitor and highly recommend to everyone.

A great value monitor good for office work and gaming
This monitor is a really good value for the money. I’m using it for 2 months so far and there hasn’t been any problems.

As someone that’s spending a lot of time in front of a monitor I really like the brightness level, the colors are accurate and it doesn’t cause eye strain which is key for me.

It has both HDMI and DisplayPort connection which is important for me because I have laptops with both GeForce and ATI graphic cards.

It has a lot of adjusting possibility which makes it a good choice for people that like ergonomic features.

One small drawback is that while the cables are relatively hidden that can be done better so they are not visible at all. Another is that it doesn’t come with DisplayPort so you will have to buy that separately.

Given the price and stats I highly recommend it to anyone that looks for a good office and gaming combo monitor for under $200

I'm an AOC-convert with their price and zero-dead-pixel warranty
I've loved my LG W2452T since 2008 and it's been an excellent 60hz monitor for gaming with great response time. I've been nervous that I'd be disappointed with LED backlighting bleed/glow, coming from a fluorescent backlight, and also nervous about dead pixels being the norm when back in 2008, they weren't especially for good panels like LG.

I thought I'd finally go for an Asus, but I hated that I might have an eye sore dead pixel and have to be stuck with it. AOC, at this time, has a zero dead pixel warranty for 3 years, and I'm content that I'll either have one by then, or never will afterward...or by 3-5 years 2160p may be the norm for gaming and I'll upgrade.

The picture quality is improved over my old TN panel and the response time is still great. The angles of colors are nice to finally see "normally" instead of having to tilt and move my head when working in photoshop. I was worried the response time would be bad when going for an IPS panel, but panels have come a long way in 12 years!

There's a setting to display the refresh rate via monitor hardware, which is a great feature. I thought it'd be fun to see it change with g-sync enabled, but what it actually did was show me that even though I enjoyed the 144hz refresh rate in gaming, g-sync wasn't actually enabled and functioning despite making multiple changes to enable it (or, so I thought), because it stayed pegged at 144hz. So, I already had an "oh, this is a really nice upgrade" moment with 144hz, but then I learned it wasn't actually functioning correctly and I looked up and changed more settings software-side and then had another "wow" moment when g-sync was actually working!

I'm sticking with AOC for my next monitor because the price and function is excellent, especially with the pixel warranty included in the price.

Best budget gaming monitor period. 24g2 IPS version.
This is a very good budget monitor as it has a lot of feature to like, such as the functionality of the stand which can height adjust, swivel, and tilt. The only thing is that the legs of the stand protrudes out too much and has a wide footprint. The brightness level is more than adequate, but would like to see it have more nits. I also tried the 27 inch version of this monitor, and found that the pixel density was unacceptable, so be sure to get the 24 inch version as it has far better pixel density. The body and stand is all plastic and I found that it was sturdy enough. The monitor has very good response time and I do not see any ghost during gaming. One gleaming flaw is the button configuration. You will find that going through the menu to be a nightmare. I like the joystick toggle for my LG monitor because it is intuitive and easy to use. The buttons on the AOC is not labelled clearly and you will be fumbling with the buttons. Overall this product is very good for the money and you will not regret the purchase at under 200 dollars.

Does not do HDMI 1440p @ 120hz
My kid researched and researched monitors. Wanted this one so bad for his birthday, that he was willing to co pay a bit for it. We we ordered it and he hooked it up to his xbox one x and top refresh is 60hz at 1440p. He was a little bummed, as everywhere he read it supported 120hz, well it does and it supports 144hz too, but only via display port. HDMI on this monitor is capped at 60hz @ 1440p. Monitor is great via display port for his pc, but is not what he'd hoped for the xbox. Lesson learned, next time download the user manual and find the specifications there to confirm full support. Maybe AOC will enable support with a firmware update or maybe one day an hdmi to dp adapter will come out that can handle the hjgher refresh or xbox adds a display port.

I love the monitor, but have different opinions on the AOC support-side of things.
I am an average user that has only had basic monitors, but since I built this PC primarily for gaming/part-time productivity and spent so much on it's components I had no choice but to purchase a monitor to match. This was it, and the colors look amazing when compared to a 4yr old Dell that I have dual mounted. I followed a couple different tutorials on how to set this specific monitor up for G-Sync but it does flicker a lot. With G-Sync enabled, the screen would also periodically go black for a few seconds so I had to turn it off. However, I paired it with a 9900K/2080Ti, maxing out frames in almost all games, and I do not experience any screen tearing or notice any type of draw back that makes me regret not buying an officially supported G-Sync monitor.

For the negative side of things, I only had the monitor for two months before it went dead and would not turn on. Just a black screen. I filled out a RMA form and was issued a refurbished monitor in its place, but it took a long time before I received the replacement monitor. From the time I submitted the RMA form to receiving the replacement, almost five weeks had passed. Thankfully I had an old Dell to get me through. The first contact from them only took about 48hrs like their RMA submission form stated, but it took 2 weeks without any form of communication from them and a complaint to Amazon Customer Service before they contacted me to proceed with the RMA. The RMA submission process was very third-rate, in that I felt like I was speaking to someone that was enjoying their meal at a restaurant, and with very little info (and no troubleshooting) was very quick to say that the monitor needed to be returned. The entire time spent on the phone with support was less than two minutes before they determined it was a bad monitor.

I gave four stars because the monitor is really great at a $450 price point, but left off one star because of the lack of communication and lengthy RMA process. So if you're in the market for a new monitor or wanting to purchase your first gaming monitor on a medium budget....this is a really great monitor for that. I honestly would buy again even though the first time around was not perfect.

Great for gaming and work. Use the DisplayPort cable, not HDMI.
This review is for the 34" CU34G2X UltraWide QHD 3440x1440 monitor. Used for about a week before writing this.

This is the best monitor I've ever seen with my own eye's! The curve is perfect, not too much, not too little. It's really immersive for gaming in particular. And for reading online and working for long durations the curve still looks great and is not distracting.

Looks amazing on its own, even without content! Solid metal stand and wide metal feet. Very sturdy. The metal feet have lots of solid, grippy rubber pads on them so it stays right where you put it. The screen isn't too glossy or too matte. The red trim is well placed and not over done. It looks very modern and professional, but still calls attention to itself like a gaming monitor should!

Refresh rate does indeed go up to 144hz no problem in games and in Windows 10. Color reproduction is really good to my eyes. They include a printed sheet with the color calibration results for your specific monitor with serial number, so AOC really is going the extra mile to prove that these really are high-end monitors.

This is a super low latency "VA" type panel. So it is the best looking panel type from a technical and color reproduction perspective. IPS panels traditionally had lower refresh rates than VA panels, but this monitor proves you can have the best looking VA panel type, AND super low 1ms refresh rates.

Games look amazing in the ultra-wide format. Halo on PC for example actually gives you a full field of view with this monitor, same with Rocket League. So you do actually get an advantage in some games. You literally can see more of the field of play with the ultra-wide aspect ratio 21:9, than anyone else stuck on the 16:9 ratio that most 1080p or 4k monitors use.

Brightness is great, even too bright at highest settings unless your in a really bright room. So that's nice to have if it's needed. All brightness and contrast settings and even gaming profiles are adjustable through physical buttons under the monitor, but also through the G-menu software. So using the G-menu software you don't need to fiddle with the physical controls of the monitor at all to fully adjust and control the monitors settings. G-menu even has hot-keys so you can change your monitor settings to different profiles almost instantly. You can download the G-menu software from AOC's support website.

Make sure to use the included DisplayPort cable with this monitor. The HDMI ports don't have the same capabilities as the DisplayPort connectors. To get freesync, 144hz, and native 3440x1440 resolution all together; you MUST use either of the two DisplayPort connectors on this monitor. AND make sure your not just converting from HDMI at the source to DisplayPort. The source signal from your PC also needs to be DisplayPort.

There is also a usb3.0 cable included. You can use it to hook it to your computer, then you can use the monitor as a USB 3.0 hub. Power Delivery is off by default on the USB 3.0 ports, but you can enable it via the monitors settings menu, or through the G-menu software.

Amazing monitor, highly recommended.

STAY AWAY IF YOU ARE A GAMER
This monitor no matter what you do has motion blur, if you do not enable hdr ALL the colors are washed out. If you do enable hdr then there is a TON more of motion blur. Definitely dont recommend for gaming... went from 1ms GTG monitor to this trash 1m mprt, which if you do your homework you will see is impossible to not have motion blur however i didnt think it was going to be so bad but with 144 fps and motion blue its so annoying to play a fps. STAY AWAY. ONE LAST NOTE, I did not receive a power cable in the box so I had to use the one that went to my previous monitor. I dont know why but the power cable was the only cable missing so this box from the third party it was purchased from was already open but sold as new.

What's IPS? This thing is really stinking good.
I switched from an older 27" 4k IPS LG monitor that was fine but i really needed some extra screen real estate for working from home. I also wanted an upgrade form the measly 60hertz... prices started dropping pretty hard on these 34" ultrawide panels and if purchased at the MSRP, this one is $450, the value proposition is very strong and high.

About the monitor... Lots of adjustment, height, swivel, tilt... more than you could ask for in a "budget" monitor. Features galore, even has 4 USB in the back to connect peripherals, unheard of.

The display - can't complain at all, colors look great and accurate, at least to my eyes. Color shift/viewing angles are not an issue at all even though its not an IPS panel.

My only concern is if this monitor ever had some issue come up and whether or not the company would actually honor their warranties.

It does 1440p 120hz on the Xbox Series S!
Great Monitor for console. Does 1440p at 120hz on the Series S, so I’m sure it would have no problem doing 1440p on Series X aswell. Many monitors require you to turn off FreeSync to able to play at 120hz on Xbox but this one doesn’t. You could play at 1440p 120hz with AMD FreeSync Premium Enabled on the Xbox Series!! Great picture, and fast response.

Great monitor!! (With one workable flaw)
This is a fantastic monitor for the price! And honestly, its competitive with monitors that cost double the price.

People often overlook VA panels because VAs
just have a general bad rap. I don't know where it comes from, but the stereotype that you need IPS is mostly false. IPS does have the best color accuracy, but unless your doing photo/video work that demands perfect colors, a VA will do great. The colors are vivid and accurate, and the viewing angles are good too. Unless you're gaming at a 70 degree angle from the front of your screen you will never have issues. Also, monitor preference is very subjective. While some people may prefer the faster technology of IPS (which can mean less ghosting), many others (myself included) care more about the superb contrast ratios provided by VA. For one, I have yet to encounter ghosting issues on my display. But also, this VA literally has a 4X better contrast ratio than the average IPS. I played on IPS for years and I always hated how every black color was just turned into a grayish blob. Now I can see different levels of darkness in full detail. Nighttime levels in games are playable and enjoyable now!

So for half the price, you can get a 144hz 1440p monitor that rivals $500 dollar IPS options. It's a no-brainer. To top it off, the packaging is superb. When I opened it I was not concerned at all about potential damage. And it has zero dead pixels.

The only con I have to mention concerns g-sync compatibility. This monitor is not on the official Nvidia list of compatible monitors. However, when you go into the Nvidia control panel to set it up, it indicates that the monitor is, in fact, compatible. The g-sync works well, and I was amazed by the buttery smooth feel I got even at frames well below 100. Now here's the downside. Apparently there is a strange but replicated bug when you have this monitor plus a 1000 series Nvidia gpu. IF and ONLY IF you turn on g-sync, and your frames drop under 100, the screen will randomly lose display for a second before coming back as normal. I found a reviewer that discussed this issue and they found it persisted across several of these monitors and when trying different cables. https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-cq27g2u-cq27g2/
It doesn't happen if you stay over 100 fps. It happens rarely (once per hour) between 100-80 fps. And it happens more frequently (once every 20-30 minutes) under 80 fps. The times are not consistent those are just my rough estimates based on usage. If you turn g-sync off this doesn't happen at all. Also, it has been reported that this issue doesn't appear of you have a 2000 series gpu.

Honestly, I still leave it on most of the time, because I'm willing to lose display for a second or two per hour in exchange for buttery smooth goodness the rest of the time. However it is disappointing that the issue exists at all.
