This fan is ok. I don't get the hype. It is kind of quiet. Keeping the cpu cool is just ok-there are better fans out there.

Nice quiet fans. Cheap. I'm not aiming for complete silence but I did want to keep this computer fairly quiet as it is our PVR in the family room. Even without the quieting resistor adapter, I cannot hear these fans. You would probably need to use the adapter if you wanted complete silence.

Could not be more happy with this cooler, solid copper all over and it lights up blue. It also cooled my CPU over 10*C versus the stock cooler, highly recommend.

and keeps the CPU 10 degrees cooler! Wow. A little involved to install, as you have to completely disassemble your existing PC to replace the CPU fan, but no biggie if you are making a new PC.

Wow, This is one hunk of copper! Runs about 150g more then rated board strength for AMD socket 462. So be extra careful when moving the CPU. Was quite pleased with The fast shipping, This GA-7DX© (2.2) was running 132 - 145 Deg. After installing Which requires total removal of the mother board, and mounting two base plates with a 4 hold MB, was tricky, you can't have any Capacitors taller than 15 mm (surprise)or (0.59in) located under the CPU. This board was OK with that, but had a issue with the hold down clip and (1) a capacitor; the fan hold down clip has two holes on each side of the processor hold downs, this 2001 Millennia Max XP, clip cleared the power supply plug, but hit the capacitor next to the ram, but before I ran to Radio Shack, I removed the fan from the heat sink, and took the hold down clip to the shed, and cut off 1/8th " (HACK SAW REQUIRED) of the un-used second hole which would clear the capacitor. At that point- reassembly was required. the results were outstanding - CPU temp dropped 32 deg with Artic Silver 5. Over all - Would rate this as a Positive improvements @ $40 Bucks and 2 hours of time.

I already owned the monster CNPS-7700-CU for my Abit IC7-G. Yes, it does fit that MB. I was very happy with the Zalman and in particular the Fanmate2 that came with it. The FM2 is mounted outside the case so I turn it down in the winter and back up to the middle in summer. I never need to run it full blast. I cut a blow hole in the side of the case and mounted a 120MM filter on the case itself with a custom tube that just clears the top of 7700 fins. Works GREAT!Now, on this Zalman USA CNPS7000B-Cu CPU Fan. It will fit the AMD 462 ONLY if you have the mounting holes. I have an Abit KR7A raid (has the 4 holes) for this second computer and the stock HSF was a joke. Noisy and no cooling to boot. Did the same as in the above paragraph. Cut a hole in the side of the case (this time for an 80mm filter) and used a smaller tube that just clears the 7000B-CU. There is an exhaust fan right behind the CPU socket in the back of the case as well as the 120MM PSU fan so any heat from the 7000B-CU is expelled right away. Plus, with the blow hole idea, the Zalman gets cool air from outside, and the filter catches about 90% of the dust. I just vacuum the filter face once in a while. OEM HSF was about 35C at idle and 54C-60C with Prime95. Now, the 7000B-CU is about 28C idle and 47C Prime95. PLUS, much quieter. (note: the 92MM fan on the 7000B-CU is not as quiet as the 7700-CU) and to get the same air flow, the FM2 has to be turned up slightly higher. One caution. Amazon.com finally has the title of the 2 items listed correctly. The CU is the all copper model of course and the AL\CU is the lighter copper\aluminum model. Make sure you order the right one. Hint: the more expensive item is the all copper model and the cheaper item is the aluminum and copper model. Don't go by the description(s) or the pictures. Both items have the wrong descriptions and both have the AL\CU for their pictures. Very confusing. When I origionally ordered the 7000 series cooler, I called first because the description showed the cheaper model to be the 'all copper model.' That's what the rep said as well, 'all copper.' I received the AL\CU instead and had to send it back and reorder the correct one.No problem with the return and all is well now. With the free shipping (as of this post) Amazon is the best price on this product from a reliable online seller.A couple of thoughts, make sure your PSU is not too close to the edge of the MB. If it is, it may not fit. Plus, the all copper model is very heavy so get the AL\CU if you want to save on weight (about 2 degrees celcius difference I have read between the 2 models, CU is better)Hope this helps. Stay COOL with Zalman! (no, I'm not an employee)

About two months ago I purchased and installed this fan on one of my computers (with an ASUS A7V-133 motherboard) and it has worked great. Today I'll be ordering another cooler for a second PC that I have. The three things to be aware of are: (a) the motherboard must have 4 heatsink cooler holes for mounting the cooler, (b) this all copper cooler is heavy, and (c) you need adequate clearance. Checkout the Zalman website for additional details on these topics.

This cooler dropped CPU temps by 10 degrees at idle and under load, compared to the stock Intel unit. My idling temps dropped to 84F and at 70 percent load, have never gone over 114F. Load temps average around 111F. I'm running an Intel P4 socket 478 3.2 GHZ Northwood overclocked a modest 10 percent, to 3.55 GHZ with no increase in temps compared to running at 3.2 GHZ.This cooler is just what I needed for a computer running 12-18 hrs daily. It's strengths are the ability to conduct additional heat away quickly under load and to easily do the same for overclocking.Although nearly twice the weight of most CPU coolers, the additional weight didn't pose a problem for me. I'm running an Asus P4P800 Deluxe MB. Make sure your MB is securely supported before installing this massive cooler. Visit the Zalman website to make sure this model will work with your motherboard. As it turned out, I had plenty of room to spare for this beast, despite being about 1.5 times larger than the stock intel fan/cooler.I almost forgot to mention how quiet this unit runs! It's plugged directly to the motherboard, running at 2400 + RPM and the noise is barely detectable. The case fans and hard drive(s) noise easily mask the low noise levels of the Zalman fan.The only way to get better cooling is to go with the much more expensive copper pipe/fin types, or water cooling. For the money, it's a tough one to beat!

I just installed this cooler yesterday into my Antec Aria case. The Aria is a very small case and this heatsink fits in snugly. My case sits next to my monitor and i can honestly say that the fan runs as advertised. At the lowest fan speed (with the included fan speed controller) i cannot hear it. The Antec Cyclone blower in the back of my case seems to make the most noise now. The CPU temperature seems to have gone down too. With the old heatsink the temperature was around 42c but now its around 35c. Removal of my old heatsink and installation of the new Zalman into my Asrock K8NF4G-SATA2 motherboard required me to remove the motherboard from the case and remove some bits from the motherboard. Its not for inexperienced computer users so you might want your local shop to fit it. I created a page incase you have an Asrock K8NF4G-SATA2 motherboard and want to safely install this cooler on your own. Checkout: members.dodo.com.au/~robbiehook

I bought a computer from a local store about a year ago for use as a web and email server over my DSL line. This means it is running 24x7. The standard Intel P4 CPU fan sounded like a chainsaw. I don't have a huge house, but I could hear that fan from anywhere within it. After reading a few reviews, I decided on the Zalman CNPS7000-Cu. Here are a couple of notes:- First off, this guy is HEAVY (773 grams == 1.7 lbs).- Installation only took about 30 minutes (admittedly, about 10 of that was figuring out how to take the old fan off).- The instructions were simple and easy to follow, though I would certainly recommend cleaning the remainder of the gunk off of your CPU before installing the new fan. This only applies if you are replacing an existing fan, as I was.- In addition to being heavy, it's big. Zalman's website has guidelines for determining if it will fit in your case. DO THIS.After starting the computer up, I can hear a soft whirr while I'm at the desk working on it (and I suspect that may be the power supply fan). If I step to the door, about 8 feet away, I can't hear it. My computer is also running about 10 degrees F cooler than it was before, with RPMs in the 2500 range as opposed to 4600 with the old fan. Oh, and I'm running directly off of the motherboard, without using the included speed controller, so this guy isn't even running in "silent mode" which is allegedly about 5dB quieter. In the end, I HIGHLY recommend this fan to anyone wanting an inexpensive, yet effective way of quieting their environment. I will definitely be purchasing another of these for the HTPC I've been thinking about.Oh, and Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife, with whom I should be spending time and not fussing with computer fans!

Check your motherboard at the manufacturer web site. I'm sure this product is wonderful, but all I can do now is return it or use it for a paperweight. Neither of my 2 motherboards have the "cooler mounting holes around the CPU socket". (These are needed because, depending on the version, its either very heavy, or very very heavy). This is noted in the fine print on the back of the packaging, but I have to fault Amazon for not noting it in the product description. Even at that, the Zalman web site covers not even half the motherboards out there, which in turn may or may not have the special holes in them. If you are replacing an existing noisy fan you will have to completely remove your motherboard to get to its back side and mount things.

This is a great heat sink, super quiet. This is definately a recommended part for those looking to build a quiet PC. I personally prefer the AlCu over the full copper version. In all the reviews I've read, the AlCu version only runs a degree or two higher, yet weighs significantly less. This can definately be an issue during mounting, or if you move your computer frequently, as the extra weight may crack the motherboard (although it's unlikely if you take the proper precautions). Also, make sure there's plenty of space around the cpu slot, as it is rather large. Some reviews I've read actually suggest pushing capacitors out of the way to accomodate its "bulk". I didn't have to do that (seems dicey in any case), but it's something to keep in mind when putting your system together. All in all, a great product at a low price.

I have a P4 2.4 prescott cpu with the stock Intel fan, and it seriously used to wheeze like a cardiac wreck. It gave me headaches as a matter of fact. Well, this fan, combined with an ultra quiet case - (I highly recommend the Antec Sonata case), has solved all my headaches. The fan comes with an adjustable fan speed controller. When switched to silent mode, the fan is virtually quiet. The fan was somewhat of a headache to install because it is so big - I thought I was going to crush my CPU, but follow directions and it's a cinch. I highly recommend this fan. It was worth every penny. Silence is a bliss. No more fat heavy breathing computer for me! Get the antec sonata case with ti, and you'll hardly notice your computer is even on.

The Zalman website states that this CPU fan fits to Socket-A. But it is not true if your motherboard doesn't have "heat-sink holes". Unless you go read the manual carefully, you can't find this information.

This is a great cooler for the money. The cooler is not silent, even though that is the target market. It is quite once you throttle down the RPMs. If you want a really quite cooler, you have to shell out money for a higher-end Thermaltake cooler. With the supplied FanMate2, I can get the RPMs down to 1400. The CNPS7000B is better than the "A" version because it has FanMate2, instead of FanMate1. FanMate2 has a much longer cable, allowing you to have the cable outside of the case. With FanMate1, you need to open the case to adjust the fan speed.
