I bought this speaker for $114, and they are just ok sounding with lack of bass, if you want to hear Bob Marley for example or any hip hop music , where the lows are very well used, they are not ok, probably the police, but the high frequency are a bit loud for me, so I get tired after a while. This is testing them with an Yamaha RX-397 amplifier with pure direct switch on, what makes everything flat, EQ, Loudness, totally flat. If you are looking for a pair of speaker like this and this price range, try the Insignia NS-B2111, they work well with this amplifier, for my taste. and you won't need to buy a subwoofer.

Own a pair of these, that I use for the rear channel of my surround system. For what they do, and for the price, they can't be beat. If you are cash strapped and need to use these for a main channel, you'll need a sub-woofer. One could spend much more, but why?

I was Impressed with the sound that these speakers produced in my small living room. Keep in mind that this is a Mid to Hi-range Speaker, so for the Low range, you will need a Sub. (If you use these for your front speakers.)
In addition, the NS-555 and -777 is essentually the same as the -333(given, larger enclosure) with 2 low-range speakers (with seperate +/- Posts). I own a set of 777's
IMO: For cinema it may be best to buy 2 or 3 pair for a 6/7 channel reciever and a Sub woofer, than to spend money on the (2)555 or (2)777. Ultimately its up to the buyer, the 777's are great (bi-amped)with music and not sold in pairs like the 333's.
2013 nov update--
These have held up to Movies and still sound like the day they broke in. I reccommend that these get 115+ watts RMS. I have a ONKYO TX-SR7xx series Reciever. I use these as the back Surround channel. Sound is crisp in DTS-HD and Dolby-trueHD.

YAMAHA(it's a japanese company) makes many products, for example, ICs, pianos, keyboards, audio products.
The YAMAHA's best audio product is NS-1000M, a book-shelf speaker.
NS-1000M is the best speaker made in Japan in the history.
Unfortunately, NS-1000M is not sold now.
And more unfortunately, YAMAHA now has become a trivial maker.
NS-333 is only one of low cost speakers. orz
