After reading most of the reviews of these drives (Yea, i looked at all the types/models/sizes) i realised that its just a matter of personal opinion. I have heard that they are noisy, create alot more heat, and no effect on performance. Well, I have a Dell D630, and having swapped the drive myself and compared it to the original i have to state that this drive is worth the upgrade. This drive is fast... wicked fast. Compared to the stock drive, booting is about 60% of my best time on the previous drive. As for the heat, this is twice the storage i had ( I wanted a bigger one, but biggier drive = less battery time on single charge, and more disks = more heat) but even so, the previous drive used to heat up reasonably hot. This drive, is comarable to that, so nothing new there. And well i have not even heard any peeps out of this drive. Even while i was dumping it with 40gb of mp3s. And that didnt take long either. I am happy I made this purchase and upgrade.

Replaced a dead HD in a friend's HP DV9500. I read briefly that these were quick drives and was glad to see in my initial benchmarks that this drive delivered high performance (double the old one) and was quiet. I'm not sure about longevity and heat with this 7200 RPM drive, but setup and install with Windows 7 went quicker than I've seen in the past and was very responsive in file I/O tasks I ran it through in restoring a lot of older data and then copying between disks. I guess $60 may seem like a lot still for a 160GB drive, but for most end users, they'll never use this space and if they do become media hoarders, they'll learn the value of not storing it on their system disk and wondering why performance is hit and why all their data could go bye bye if they have to reformat or reload an OS. Recommended...

My VAIO HardDrive failed in 2 year so I got this from Amazon, replaced the original HDD with Western digital Scorpio and viola all the noise that came from the old HDD was gone laptop was more quiet and it is fast as compared to the original 5400 rpm drive. In all this Drive is very nice.

This is an excellent laptop hard drive replacement if you're not looking for massive storage, it has a 7200 rpm speed and a 16MB cache (description is wrong after checking with amazon and western digital it's not a 32MB buffer), plus it has the free fall sensor for protection.Although it's a bulk package it came perfectly packeged by amazon..held with two pieces of plastic to keep it from direct contact during shipping, so no worries there.I used the -Universal HDD Adapter USB To 2.5IN & 3.5IN Sata & Pata Hdd- to clone my old drive to this new one, actual storage is 147GB, popped the hard drive cover and replaced it with this one, the laptop (toshiba satellite) started smoothly and without any glitches and as far as I can tell everything was faster and smoother, it used to lag a little bit with the old drive (5400 RPM with 8MB's cache) but now it's much smoother.Highly recommended

This was a really good upgrade for a PC, as it is a 7200 rpm drive instead of standard 5400, and has a 32M buffer. Really speeded up an older machine. Also has drive protection for if it falls, but hope I never need to see if that works. :-)As for it being a factory refurb, I had no problems with that as they probably just replaced the circuit board. Just to be sure I ran the WD diags against it before, but have had no problems at all.Great product!
