Hard drive worked great. It shipped quickly and now my iPod is revived. Perfect replacement for any ipod classic with an repairable hard drive.Thanks alot

Drive works fine in my 5G iPod. I've seen some reviews online that this drive won't work in the 5G iPod video. Reports were that when installed in an iPod and connected to iTunes for a restore that it would fail just before completion. The trick is to format the drive BEFORE putting it in the iPod. I bought an inexpensive enclosure to put the old drive in and used it to connect the new drive to my Windows box and format the drive before installing it (make sure it's formatted FAT32). iTunes restored my iPod just fine with no problems. The drive is working fine in my iPod and I've doubled my storage....I can now take my ENTIRE CD collection with me wherever I go!

Purchased a Zune 120 from EBay for $40. It was getting the "Error 5" error message. This error is almost always the result of a bad hard drive. I purchased one of these zif drives as a replacement. I installed it and the Zune automatically partitioned/formatted and installed the software. It now works great. EBay has tons of these "Error 5" Zunes and this 120GB MK1231GAL you can get a fully functional Zune cheap.The MK1231GAL will work in the 80gb and 120gb 2nd Gen Zunes and All IPod Classics. After waiting for this hard drive and to find out it doesn't work is disappointing i will never use the company that sent it to me or order hard drives from the internet again. it would be nice to know it was refurbished and not new as the web site stated and instead the documents that came with it said refurbished. also it was packed poorly! i am not at all satisfied.

This was the same model Hard Drive that was in my HP netbook, but I couldn't get it to work. I can't tell if it had bad firmware, or was otherwise Apple'd to not work with non-Apple products. I had to get a new netbook instead.

Just a note to those considering purchasing this item, it may be fine for an iPod or other MP3 player, but it is not compatible with laptops, including the original MacBook Air.The drive cannot be formatted because it is "locked".I rated this low, because the product description does not clearly state that the drive will not work with a computer.

Excellent and inexpensive repair for iPod Classics. this is THE drive used in iPod classics. The MK1231GAL is a CE based format (It won't work in laptops so don't try it). CE devices (MP3 players, media players, etc) use a different format structure than laptops or standard ATA/PATA/SATA based drives. It is unlikely to work in Zunes and iRivers, thought that's not been confirmed.BE WARNED! This *MAY or MAY NOT* work on your Zune! Zunes have VERY little solid documentation available. Some Zunes will work with these drives, some won't. This may be because they're PATA or CE device, but they're not really clear.
