Full HD:
Blu-ray.
    • Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar
    • Low Lux
Panasonic.

I was looking to replace my JVC Everio, that had a 60GB hard drive in it. I loved the convenience of the hard drive, since that replaced an older unit I had that used the small tape cartridges. But the prices for the HD capable units are more than I was willing to pay for a camcorder, so looked at the units that just used memory sticks.I have the Sony DSC-TX1 digital camera and was blown away by its optical quality, and it even took 720p movies which were just insanely clearer than my 1 year old JVC camcorder. That was when I realized I needed to lose the JVC. Almost all the movies I do are of my son, now 6 years old, so the better the quality the happier I would be. Too many artifacts with the low definition JVC, panning was just ugly ugly ugly, and while it had a great response in low light, the picture quality was just not what I wanted considering how good everything else with my TV and still camera.I was initially going to get the 100 version of this, since it was so insanely cheap for a 1080 capable camcorder, but the bad low light capability put me off, since most of what I record is in my house. And the very low numbers for optical zoom also concerned me. But amazon conveniently puts little links under the initial product listing if there's a new version, so I saw the 110 and the price was good. I did some digging on Sony's site, somewhat confused that the cheap little 100 had 16GB built in but the higher end had none, but when I saw the rest of the specs in comparison, I felt it was a very good unit to give a test run with. My local brick and mortars didn't have it in stock, so I ordered it from Amazon and got the Saturday delivery early on Saturday, plenty of time to charge it up and try it out.I left all settings at default except for the quality setting. That was easy to find, and the touchscreen on this unit makes it very easy to operate. As with my sony still camera, it has a "user" screen too where you can pin the six most used functions to save you from having to navigate into submenus. I love this feature, as it made my touchscreen still camera so simple and quick to use.So I did four test movies, all of the same thing (my 6 year old playing with a huge Geotrax set), at all four of the options for 1080p resolution. The camera is smaller than I had expected, very light and fits well in the hand. The only real buttons to deal with in normal operation are the zoom and the start/stop recording, which are placed well despite the small size of the unit. If you want to grab a still as well, which you can do while recording, that button is on top right behind the zoom, so it's easy to get at. So use is great, no problems. As I said, touch screen menu is great, so changing settings as I went was a piece of cake.Started with the highest 24Mbps, then the next down (I think it was 17Mbps), then the "default" one they start you out at, 9Mbps, then the lowest. When I was done, I pulled the card out (nice, quick access on the bottom with a great, sturdy, hinged door). Went into my macbook pro just fine, and i started playback.I have a 13" macbook pro, the aluminum unibody, that I got about four months ago. So new core2 duo processor, nvidia 9400 graphics... And it could not play the highest or second highest quality movies raw... Which told me that they were going to be great on my windows 7 media center. The third and fourth files played, but since the laptop is not a 1080 screen, it didn't look that good. So I went ahead and pulled the memory card out of the laptop, put it in my Dell Zino that runs my beautiful 46" Samsung HDTV, and played them all.One thing I hadn't realized is that when it creates the files, it creates them in a native bluray playback format, the folder structure and all. So that should make it easy for people who will want to burn to Bluray.Anyway, on the media center, i played the highest quality one first. And my jaw dropped, and I nearly had to go buy some adult diapers. WOW. That was all I could say or think. WOW. It was just outstanding, WAY better than I had expected. And it's not like I'm so unfamiliar with HD that even bad HD was impressive to me - my first HDTV was purchased back in 1999, a huge 60" Mitsubishi diamond line TV. So I've been using HD for over 10 years now. And this just knocked my socks off.I had nearly no artifacting or blurring or anything with the movement of the camera as I've come to expect from camcorders. Even the blurring was minimal. And the shots of things were just crystal clear. I had a 1080p version of the movie BOLT running on the TV as he played with his geotrax, so I zoomed in so that filled the viewfinder, and recorded some of the movie. During playback at that scene, I couldn't even tell it wasn't the original playing back, that it was a recording of the TV from earlier, it was that clear.I was indoors, in Wisconsin on a winter day with snow falling, so there was no direct sunlight, just all clouds. Before purchasing this camcorder I did a ton of research. Everywhere I looked people were talking about how camcorders are becoming obsolete. And I partially agree with that statement. With cell phones becoming so advanced, they can handle the average person's needs for both video and photo and they are extremely convenient. But for anybody that has tried recording a little clip of their kids game or dance or basically anything that takes place more than a few feet away, know that cell phones are at a major disadvantage. If you are looking at the CX-110, you are probably more budget minded and don't need all the fancy features of a high end camcorder. Most camcorders in this range are fairly similar. Some have internal hard drives but offer as many features or as good of quality, while others don't have a hard drive and are a little lighter to carry around. This one obviously doesn't have a hard drive. It's fairly small, probably not small enough to fit in your pant pockets but would be good for a coat pocket or in the side pocket of cargo pants. This does a pretty good job in low light situations. You can sort videos based on facial recognition which is a nice feature. The zoom is smooth, and the videos with good light turn out great, but the still pictures are only ok. I was hoping they would turn out at least usable but in low light situations, they should be avoided.I also read that you can't connect an external mic which I have not verified yet but I don't think it's necessary as the camera does a good job of channeling the sound. The battery lasts for quite awhile. I usually just record small clips (up to a few minutes at a time) and the battery lasted about 2 hours. It boots up extremely quick. Usually by the time I can flip the lcd panel open, it has already booted up.It finds focus quick as well. I don't notice too many issues with the videos losing focus either.Overall it was a great purchase, I bought a used one off of ebay for a good price and it was definitely worth it. If you are looking to buy one brand new at full price, I would be a little more hesitant but I did not try any other camcorders.

I bought this camera from a different site, which I repent. I liked the very small size of the camera and low light recording quality. There is no flash and so indoor pictures are useless. Outdoor shots are OK. Video quality is very good even when I watched in a 52 inch TV. But the problem started right from the second day. The subject in the LCD display was blurred. I had to close and open the display several times to get the focus. This problem was sporadic. I contacted the Sony technical support. They asked me to RESET the camcorder. They also asked to POWER RESET if RESET didn't work. I could not reproduce the problem at that time. After few days the problem was back. This time there was a flashing "E:61:00" on the display. I was unable to shoot anything during the Halloween. I wanted to return the camera. It was almost four weeks. When I called the seller, they said it was past three weeks and I could not return it any more. I would have to send it for repair to the manufacturer. I explained that the problem was there from the very beginning and technical troubleshooting took the time. But they didn't listen. I didn't want to send the brand new camera for a repair. Then I called Sony technical support again and they said if I had already tried RESET and POWER RESET and the problem still existed meant there was an INTERNAL MALFUNCTION. And advised me to send it for warranty repair. As this camera was useless, I wanted to send this for service. I had to pay the one way shipping of six dollars through UPS Ground, which took its own time to reach TX. It was delivered today to the service center. I am not sure if this would be back in two weeks when I go on a Christmas vacation. I can't find the Event ID Sony provided in their repair site. I had very high regards for Sony electronics and camcorders. But this experience changed it completely. Probably I should have gone for the Cannon High Definition. Cannon's repair service is super fast. I had my Cannon camera shipped, serviced and back in a week totally free of cost, when there was a problem in the sensor several years after purchase. I will wait and see the fate of this camcorder.Updated on 1/15/2011. I finally got my camcorder back. I was calling the Sony Laredo service center almost every day. They always said "it is repaired and waiting to be shipped." Calling the customer support was of no help. Always they said "I would arrange a call from Laredo service center." That call never came and when I called them I got the same usual answer. At one point I thought I was not going to get this back. I had nowhere else to go. But fortunately it came back after taking more than a month. First there was a bad quality and then there was a bad service. I am not sure if Sony has heard of Service Management ever. If this is their level of service, I would avoid Sony products in future.

I have been using the Sony DCR-SR68 for the past year, right up until my house flooded and water got inside it. It still works just like it should, but will not turn off, which means it cant charge the battery. My wife knew I liked the Sony Camcorders so she got me this HDR-CX110 as a replacement. It works exactly the same as the old one, even uses the same style battery, charger, same menu's, same screen, same video cables...you get the idea. I like the fact that Sony keeps compatibility across product lines. I wish more camera makers followed this logic. My only "gripes" with the new one are lack of hard drive or any internal memory, no built in light, and only 25x optical. the old camera had 60X optical, a light and a 80 gig hard drive. Also this camera is a bit small and difficult to hold for man sized hands. The models with built in hard drive solve this problem due to their taller frame. HOWEVER, this camera takes way better video in spite of these missing features, and im sure over time I wont miss them anymore. The videos are in a blueray format right off the camera if thats important to you. I am very pleased with this camera.Pros:* HD video quality that LOOKS HD even at the lowest settings* Easy menu navigation with touch screen* Compatible with NP-FV series batteries and chargers* SD card compatible* Price vs FeaturesCons:* no internal memory, must have SD card that can keep up with HD video recording* no light, my cheaper SD camera had one and it helps a lot* too small for my hands to use comfortably* 25x optical, why not the 60x optical zeiss lens my cheaper camera had?* Wont charge battery unless camera is turned off, this is just silly and the sole reason my other one was no longer practical (wouldnt turn off).In the end the quality of video wins. After all, that's what were left with years from now when the camera is long gone,....quality videos.

My first Sony camcorder experience was in 1992 with a compact hi8 camcorder with all the bells and whistles at the time.... I paid 1,200 for that and a Sony hi 8 tape player bag and accesssories I needed a camcorder to video my mother before she passed away and the birth of my nephew this sony was as detaled as the HD is today 19yrs later it still holds strong and is still in good working order..... NOW i have this cx110 for almost a year and I cant belive the claraty and sharpness this little cam has BUT the best part is that the low light indoors and night time video it will blow you away this is truly a 1080 masterpiece as far as I am concerned I'm a music composer and I like to put my music to film this camcorder is it for me What it comes withthis cam has an 1/4" back-illuminated "Exmor R" CMOS sensor for superior low-light performance not an 1/8,A Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar and that makes a huge difference Sony uses one of the best lens on this camcorder and it is also used by Canon's higher end camaras as well2x faster Quick AF Intelligent Auto (9 iAuto modesand a very impressive image Processor Bionzx.v. Color technology enables to capture nearly twice as many viewable colors as the standard RGB color range, gives a more natural life-like images this I found very important in this camcorderalso the battery life is a full 8 hrs so its great to take on a day trip use this camcorder with the right settings and use the Sandisk or Sony 32 GB Class 10 card for speed great for sports and fast action video. With this card you'll think you're at the movies ALSO go to youtube and check out some of the night TEST videos done with this camcorder they are great hope the review helpedI use the VLC Media Player with this camcorder and it works well. This camcorders supports Microsoft Windows XP SP3/ Windows Vista SP2 and windows 7.

I bought this camera expressly for its advanced features. Slow Motion recording, Tele Macro, Spot Focus and Spot Metering. This is an outstanding camera and almost unbeliveable because of its tiny price tag. This camera retails somewhere between $350-400, I got it in an open box "Like New" deal from Amazons own Clearance Center for $260. It arrived in perfect condition. I trust Amazon since they have outstanding customer service, I would not have made this purchase otherwise. The Slow Motion feature allows you to record 3 second clips at 240 frames per second which play back at about 12 seconds. The Auto Focus is amazing and allows me to do closeup shootings of insects with amazing detail and clarity. I can't say enough about this camera. Yes it has some drawbracks. You can't operate the camera and charge it at the same time and the menu items are clumsy to get to but for the price and the results these are minor details. This camera is tiny, since it has no hard drive and stores everything on a card. This is not a drawback for me, I prefer having no hard drive since that can ultimely become an issue. Basically this camera is one big lens.My first out of the box shoot were Honey Bees drinking water in my back yard. The results are stunning. Go see for yourself. Look me up on YouTube, my channel name is Beekalmer. I have created 2 videos using the slow motion record feature. If you use this camera for special types of filming like me, and you are on a budget, run don't walk to get this camera.Sony HDR-CX110 High-Definition Handycam Camcorder

I purchased this camera to replace a 13 year old Sony Hi-8 camcorder - absolutely the best purchase I could have made in a camcorder. Unfortunately, the incredible quality of Hi-8 is ruined when digitized, so the quality is no longer there when one wants to edit on the PC. It is time for digital...I wanted to really love this camera. The main reason I selected this model is that it is the only quality camera I found that can be both an SD and an HD camera! That is a huge feature to me, considering the complexity of AVCHD. For those interested in this feature, you tell the camera, via a menu selection, to switch to SD or HD mode, and after a few moments the camera actually becomes just that! It is as if it reboots into a different mode - very cool!I found, however, that the image stabilization on this camera simply is not sufficient for my needs. On a tripod, fantastic, but hand-held video is too unstable for extended viewing. I also found that in high contrast, zoomed-in video, there is what I can only describe as a Gaussian-blur-like distortion in the video. Perhaps this is a limitation of the single CMOS sensor. I am not a video professional, but my photographic experience is sufficient that I should have been able to adjust for these deficiencies. As the quality of IS is very important to me, I am returning this to try the Panasonic HDC-SD60k - I understand that Panasonic is reputed to be the leader in Image Stabilization, so wish me luck.By the way - the camera, purchased from Amazon.com, was shipped from Electonica Direct. I obtained an RMA online, with no difficulty, and expect a full refund of the purchase price. They only seem to charge a restocking fee if the item is not return within 7 days of the RMA issue. This is great customer service, and gives you the opportunity to be sure you are happy with your purchase. I hope the return transaction goes as smoothly as I expect.10-09-2010 UPDATED:I have been playing with the Panasonic HDC-SD60, today. The Sony was MUCH smaller - cargo-pants-carry smaller. The Panasonic seems to have much better image stabilization [see comments below]. I must admit, however, that the Sony picture quality is much better [on all auto settings] than the Panasonic, and it adjusts to changes in lighting much more quickly. I will keep the Panasonic, though, since most of my video will be hand-held, and the Sony's IS simply didn't cut-it for me.

I'm kind of new to this HD stuff. I just wanted a camcorder that would take good videos and not break the bank in the process. I tried 3 camcorders in this low-mid price range. The CX-110, Canon's M30, and Panasonic's TM-55. I have to say, the CX-110 being the cheapest of the bunch, was the best. Compared to the M30, the picture quality was more realistic for me. The M30 touts it's vibrant picture quality but it was almost too vibrant. The colors seemed a little over-saturated. As for the ease of use, the touch screen on the CX-110 was much easier to navigate than the M30. I found at times that I had to really push down hard on the screen to make it do anything. Whereas the menu items on the CX-110 were easily selected with a tap of the finger. Also, I take a lot of videos of the kids inside the house where low light is an issue. This is where the Sony really blows the M30 away. Though it lacks the little led light (which I found useless unless you're really up close), The CX-110 was still able to produce decent video with minimal grainyness. As for comparing to the TM-55, it was really close. Both produced good video, easy to navigate, and good in low light. However, the TM-55 got a little too hot, to the point where it became uncomfortable. I also had problems with the white-balance. Even in it's manual mode, I couldn't correct it. Videos had a somewhat orange tinge to it. This is how I ended up with the CX-110. Alas, all is not perfect. The one thing that I felt the other two camcorders had an edge over the Sony was the image stabilization. The CX-110 has two modes: Active and Standard. Both are relatively the same except the Active will further assist in stabilizing the image when zooming in more. When keeping up with the kids or just plain walking, I found it to be a little more shaky than the other two camcorders. This was the reason for 4 out of 5 star rating. Couple of other points I'd like to hit on is the battery life. The camera comes with it's lowest capacity battery (NP-VF50) That'll give you a decent 1 1/2 - 2 hrs worth of shoot time. As stated before it's very portable. At 4 1/2 inches long it can fit easily in a shirt pocket. Works well with my imac. Imovie recognizes the camera/sd card immediately.

I wasn't going to write a review, but after re-reading some of the prior reviews and one of them giving 1 star for a poor user interface, I feel compelled to offset the reviewer's 1 star with my 5 stars.I've had the cx110 for over a week and love it and see no reason for the prior reviewer's 1 star rating. The cx110 is small and light weight and comes with us to all family events. It is is a huge improvement over my old Hi8 camera purchased 8 years ago. Now, I don't feel like a dork pulling out a brick of an antiquated video camera to preserve memories.I found a great deal on a 8gb SDHC class 6 card at frys dot com via slickdeals dot com. I'm recording at the 2nd highest level quality (FH) and the 8gb provides ~50-60 mins of recording time. The highest quality setting provides ~40-50 mins of recording time. The quality of recorded video/audio is excellent for the size and price of the camera. It handles low light pretty well in my opinion. Natural light colors come through great. My plan is to take the .mts files and burn them to a DVD and play them back on my samsung c5500 blue ray player. I guess this has something to with AVCHD or something which I'm still trying to figure out. The bad thing now, is my older Dell struggles to playback the HD video. The camera's provided PMB software looks okay, as it imports the mts files and will categorize them by date/time into a calendar view which is nice. It also includes a trimmer/editor in which you can cut out the beginning and/or end of a video clip and save it as a new file. The PMB program will also take the files you select and make a dvd out of it.I know there are other editing/authoring programs out there, but this one is free and included with the camera. Note: if your computer has choppy/stuttering play back issues like mine, check out a free player called Splash (lite). Play back is a lot is smoother but still not the best (which I attribute to my specs: older P4 dual core and older 256mb Ati video card).Supplied with the cx110 is a usb cable, composite cable for SD tv viewing and component cable for HD tv viewing. I bought a mini HDMI cable on amazon for ~$5, and have yet to use it. I also bought a 30mm UV filter to protect the lens for ~$6 on amazon as well... Small investment to protect a $400+ camera. In summary, if you're thinking about this camera go for it. I'm glad I pulled the trigger on this camera, as our baby coming in Dec 2010, will have plenty of HD memories to look back on when he/she gets older. Not to mention my current sons 7 and 4 yrs, love watching videos of themselves, and the cx110 is perfect as we can watch videos instantly, as many times as we want. And also delete unneeded videos when ever we want. DO IT!Send me a comment if you have any questions.

I have been shopping for a replacement for my old Sony Mini DV which costed $1099. I read reviews of Sony HDR CX110 and Canon VIXIA R11 through CNET. Professional review is 3.0 for Sony and 3.5 for Canon. Therefore,I recently bought Canon VIXIA R11 with 32GB built in Flash memory. When I took several outdoor shots during the day, it has very good quality. As soon as I took a shot indoor, I saw a lot of noises and grainy. Indoor and low light picture quality is not acceptable. Even worse than the my old Sony camcorder with indoor low light shot. What a hassle to return.I bought Sony HDR CX110 with Amazon. My major concern was indoor low light shot. The indoor picture quality is GOOD. Better than what I expected. I don't really prefer touch screen, but this touch screen is pretty sensitive and very easy to operate even without opening the manual. 25X optical zoom is nice. This is the Camcorder that what I have been looking for. After this experience, I realized that Amazon customer review is reliable and practical. Thanks all other reviewers.I think this is the go-to-camcorder. Go for it. You will smile like me.:-D

I wanted to buy a video camera because I was going on my honeymoon in 2 weeks in Hawaii and I wanted to capture the memories and scenery. After reading the reviews and nailing down the criteria for my first video camera puchase, I was swayed by what I saw for the CX110. It was somewhat more expensive than I wished, but had HD (which was a must), and had good reviews to back up the money. I am glad I listened to the user reviews.1. It is very compact. I can fit it easily in one hand and into a cargo shorts pocket. It also fits nicely in my wife's purse if she wanted to carry it.2. It has a touch screen LCD which is very intuitive. I did not read the instructions (well, maybe a little) and mostly figured everything out on my own. The menu system is easy to navigate once you understand the basics. If it is too complicated, just point and hit record and the default "auto" feature automatically adjust focus and light sensitivity (for evening, daytime, nighttime scenes) for amazing quality. Anyone can use this camera! Even my technophob wife had no problem.3. Has no built in memory, which is why it is cheaper than the CX150 (has 16 gigs built on it) but I knew that going in. I got a Kingston 32 gig Class 4 memory and have about an hour worth of footage on it from the honeymoon and still have plenty of room. I am not sure exactly much, but i would guess I used about only 15% - 20% of all of my memory. It has 4 different recoridng qualitys, 24 MB per second (best), 19 MbPS, 12MbPS (default setting), and 9 MbPS. I used the second highest quality (since I had lots of memory) and got amazing picture! I used the component cables and am waiting for my HDMI cable for some real digital hd, but the component picture blew me away!4. The optical zoom is scary good. I creeped on people across our condo and could see how many beer cans they had on their kitchen table.5. The audio quality is great. You can hear wind on lots of our footage but thats because our fault. Hearing the crashing waves and the birds in the background are a nice treat to our video.6. I am very happy with my purchase. HD is the way to go and this is a powerful cheap camera. This is all you need to get amazing picture for little cost. Sony is a quality brand and you know if your paying 500 for something, you might as well get something thats quality. Plus, having HD and blue-ray quality video makes it future proof.** I purchased mine off ebay for $400 dollars and got my 32mb for about $90. I know amazon sells it for 500 but perhaps some shopping would save you some bucks.

I use this camera to record weekly church services and sometimes weddings or musical concerts from full community orchestra down to chamber music. On an average week I record two hours of video to produce a one hour video. The Sony camera works great as a hand held, with all fingers placed where they should be while recording/panning/zooming.In low light, the images are acceptable. In normal to bright light, the images are totally crisp and HD. Under stage light they are awesome. It's my camera of choice in any filming project but I also make sure I bring other low tech gear to get a better sound recording and side shots. The Sony doesn't do a great job on recording stereo quality sound. If this is an important measurement to you, I would avoid this particular model. I get better audio off my old Cannon FS10 and frequently use it side by side with the Sony so as to capture better audio.Side note: The Sony's microphone is super sensitive to any handling of the camera. When placed on a tripod and left to run, it does fine, but like I said, it is super sensitive. If you have a soft squeak in your tripod, it records it. Just gently placing your fingers on the camera's controls? That sound gets recorded too. In a concert environment this wouldn't get noticed so much, but while recording long videos with lots of speaking, the extra clicks and clanks are not a welcome addition to the message. There is not a remote control for this camera.I recommend this camera for the casual user. It will do a great job of videoing your kids soccer game or church pageant and give you memories for a lifetime . . . crisp and clear on your HD television set.

Update: Mar. 14, 2011Switch to 1920x1080 w/ 16Mbps mode, that's really gorgeous video quality even in the almost completely dark env., and without any need to setup anything manually, just by itself automatically, that's really awesome performance under low-light, exactly what I need! I should say it deserve this expensive price for a entry-level HD camcorder even without internal flash storage.25X optical is a better thing which let me happy based on the pathetic photo quality, when you try to read a very far road sign, just push the optical zoom and read it easily. Feel free to keep a photo for the symbol or road sign, it should be very clear because it's real optical zoom, not digital one. What bother me only is the photo quality looks more like a video screenshot, I cannot describe clearly what it likes, but not similar with photos comes from DC or cellphone, looks much more bightly/vividly colored but the edge of each color is very smooth...________________________________________________________________________________________Pros:1) very good video quality with low-size file created.2) very good low-light sensitivity, good noise control capability.3) light weight.Cons:1) without even a simple flashlight, photo quality is even similar as cellphone level.2) too small for a man to handle it.3) Battery cannot be charged when used with AC adapter connected. All in all:It does perfectly as a camcorder, without any question. Will get my 5 stars if the photo quality is a little bit better than my NOKIA.

I think my review is less the camera's fault than my expectations of it not being met. However, others may find themselves in a similar position, so I hope my experience will enlighten anyone making the same mistake. This was my first video camera, and I was expecting similar functionality to my a similarly-priced still camera from 6 years ago -- a Minolta Dimage 7Hi. Specifically this meant some sort of easy manual focusing, and the ability to change settings like f-stop (or its video equivalent), white balance, ISO, etc...I expected too much and did not research enough, because with this video camera you've got to go through the menu system to attempt any of that. Good luck if you're trying to do it in the sun! That being said, the video quality is fantastic when it's in focus. I was recently on a camping trip, and did a sweep of the sunset over the Pacific. It's a beautiful shot, but the camera's automatic settings couldn't cope, and the image goes in and out of focus as the autofocus was freaking out.So, before I ramble on, let me summarize my experience:Pro's- Absolutely beautiful video quality in HD- Zoom is scary-good, but you need a tripod or camera stabilizer to use it at the highest level.- Extremely small. Front pants-pocket small.Con's- No viewfinder, no button-access to camera settings (everything through the LCD menu)- Menu is hard to see in the sun- Closing the LCD screen turns off the camera- Has an "easily breakable" feel to it. Don't ever drop it!- File format (AVCHD) is a pain to work with.

This is the cheapest high-def camera from sony, has exactly the same quality and specs than the other more expensive HD handycams but it doesnt come with any memory at all (that's the catch!). I also purchased the sony pro duo 16GB mark2 memory, that provides enough space to save up to 90min on full hd (1920x1080) quality for less than $70! When I first opened the box I couldnt believe how small this camera is and I thought it would be a problem since I have big hands, but I was mistaken, I have full access to all the buttons (rec - zoom - mode) with only one hand. Once connected to an HDTV the recording/play back quality is amazing. Steady-shot technology makes it really easy to take great and stable shots even when zooming in and no tripod. Highly recommended!Pros: excellent video recording quality even on low-light shots, stereo microphone array, 25x optical zoom, touch screen has good response (even for big fingers like mine!), user-friendly menus to configure settings, Carl Zeiss - Vario Tessar lens, stock battery (NP-FV50) has good charge above 100mins, steady-shot works great (image stabilizer).Cons: no memory, no case, no view-finder, no batt-only AC charger (will have to charge the battery while mounted on the camera), lcd has to be open or the camera will turn off (but you can turn the lcd 180deg, close it and that works!), no mini-HDMI to full-HDMI adapter cable.Important/recommended accesories:- Sony PRO Duo 8/16/32 GB Mark2 memory stick- HDMI Cable, mini-to-full (Part No. VMC-15MHD)- Travel AC charger (Part No. BC-TRV)- Carrying case with extra-battery (Part No. ACC-FV50A)- Shooting grip with mini-tripod (Part No. GP-AVTI)Hope this review will be helpful!

I was looking for a high def camcorder, and so I found.Pros:- Small little camcorder- Great quality video- Touch screen- Many features, like slow motion.Cons:- No light on camera- No way to attach external microphone- Even using a 32 GB card can only record 88 minutes, not enough for everyone on highest settings.- Not all 32 GB cards are entirely compatible, it may work but you will constantly get an annoying message, might as well stick to Sony cards.- 1 GB of memory can only record 5 minutes on highest settings.Other thoughts:Bought this for youtube videos actually, so all the cons don't matter too much except the amount you can record at once. Quality is pretty nice.Haven't tried the cd yet, nor have I tried to edit videos. I will sure let you know how the video editing goes.Slow motion feature seems okay, not too slow, but you can always slow it down farther with a video editing software.

This is a nice little camcorder. There's not much to dislike about it. Maybe the worst thing is fingerprints on the view screen, which show up even worse when there's sunlight glaring off the screen and it's already hard to see. I'll have to keep a soft cloth in the camera bag.I like the color, the resolution, the zoom, autofocus works well, sound recording is good. The menus aren't too bad to navigate, and I especially like that you can place the common selections in your own custom menu at the beginning. I can't believe how small this unit is. Playback on a big screen TV is just astounding!Low light recording is excellent, at least for my needs, around the home in the evening. This should work well on Christmas morning too, I've been recording Christmas mornings with the family for almost 30 years.Battery life is ok, I seem to get an honest 90 minutes out of mine. I picked up a spare just in case.I bought a Toshiba camcorder for about 1/2 the price of the CX110 about 2 months ago and regretted it. Spend the money and get the Sony, you'll be glad you did.A word about some accessory items;(1)Small camcorder bag: look at the Tamrac 3392 Aero bag. Small, slim, good for a spare battery and SDHC card. Hang on your belt or keep the shoulder strap. Find it and see my review.(2)Wide angle lens: I got the Sony VCL-0630X wide angle lens for about $37 and am very satisfied. Find it and see my review. I like this lens.

I am very impressed by both the video and sound quality of the Sony HDR-CX110. The video is crisp and the microphone is very sensitive and has very realistic sound reproduction. The low light recording quality (indoor 75 watt bulb) is good. The face detection feature also works very well. The full HD resolution makes the videos look great on the large 1080p flat screens. The included Picture Motion Browser (PMB) software is basic, but gets the job done. It imports the videos and can create either Bluray discs or AVCHD DVDs that are playable on Bluray players in HD quality with menus generated based on the date taken of the video. For the high quality and great price point, this camcorder is a great value. I highly recommend this camcorder!

Bought this camera hoping to take some nice December "footage", download it into the computer, get some software and put out a nice holiday DVD. Apparently there is no software out there that works or if there is it is a multi-step process involving guru-type computer / software skills. Even Pinnacle Studio 14 Ultimate will not handle the m2ts files. Plus with Sony HD files you have to have a souped up computer, graphics card, sound card etc. I don't know why Sony makes a camera that DOES take great video but has no solution to edit it.

I've had this camera for a few weeks now and I'm liking it so far. I got it at Best Buy for $350 new.Pros:-small/lightweight-descent low light-full HD :)-good camera quality for such a small deviceCons:-fingerprints on touch screen-battery life if OK depends on what mode you want to shoot. On MAX settings you will get about 1.5 hrs of battery life...For serious shooters I recommend buying addtional batteries + addtional memory cards because there is no internal memory.Overall this camera is a solid camera for the price. I woudl reccommend this camera for anyone who wants to jump into HD. I use this camera for mainly youtube/vacations.

I purchased this camera a couple of weeks ago after someone I now had also picked it up. It was to replace my old Sony Hi-8 camera that recently quit working. I must say right off the bat that anyone looking to buy a starter, entry-level, low price high definition camera - this is the one for you! At under two pounds, it's extremely light, compact, and portable. (Having longer fingers I almost have a hard time working the trigger and zoom.) As an entry level camera, you must be prepared for the fact that things like memory cards, cases, HDMI cables, and other bells and whistles will not come with this camera - hence the low price. What you do get is an incredible 1080 24bit HD picture that will blow you away. My first outing was to our local Desert Botanical Gardens to view and film the colorful wildflowers, cactai, and butterflies. I used the HD FX (highest quality video setting) for video, as well as taking 3meg pictures. When I returned home and viewed the footage and photos, my jaw dropped at the clarity and vivid, rich colors in beautiful 1080 on my 52" Sony TV. The details were very crisp and no artifacts were present in the movies. It was amazing. The camera was easy to use and operate with the simple touch screens, as well as the I-Auto feature to help with the proper contrast and exposure. It was great to pick which scene you wanted without having to fast forward or rewind ever again!! The only drawbacks on the camera that I don't like are the low life battery that comes with it, as well as having to purchase your own HDMI cable separately. All in all, this is a great camera for the price!!

I have setup the recording mode on the second best(FH)which is the only setting to create DVD for avchd format. I was so impressed with the video quality when I played on my bluray player. Not that I'm not familiar with HD,I have own 1080p and HD's more than 3 years now. Cannot even compare with my previous 1080p by Kodak. My only complain is the size so tiny that even now I have no idea how to hold it on my palm. My recommendation is, you may need a protective lens and an additional battery for backup.

I have had this camera for about a month now and it is exactly what I was looking for. I previously had a Samsung mini-DVD camcorder and wasn't satisfied with either the battery life or the quality of the video. This camera addresses both of those concerns. The battery life seems to be great both in use and in standby mode and I have been able to tape full softball and t-ball games with no problem at all. The picture is just awesome too. The multiple HD settings allow you to select the definition that you desire and connecting the camcorder to a HD TV is about as easy as can be. My only concern I have with the camera turns out to be a benefit as well...and that is the size. I knew the camera was small when I purchased it, but I was a bit surprised when I unpacked it and saw just how small it really is. That being said, the size makes it easy to pack away or stick in to a sweatshirt/jacket pocket when not in use. The built in 3.1 megapixel camera is nice, but I experience a second delay from when I take the picture to when the camera registers the image. Not horrible, but I have missed a few pictures due to this (perhaps this is a setting issue...still investigating). I LOVE the fact that there is no hard drive and I purchased two high capacity SD Memory sticks to go along with it. Very nice machine.
