However it stands or is forced to stand, this Shure microphone sounds absolutely fantastic. It has a rich sound with a reasonable amount of reverb that makes you sound as if you're talking into a very expensive professional mic on a stage in an auditorium with great acoustics. It's just a full, rich sound that can't really be described. It's an awesome sound at this price point, and frankly at double this price point.
That said, I knock this down two stars due to the fact my mic is bent over because of the weird design choices made. (And I bump it back up one star because I love the sound quality so much.)
Okay, design choices…
1) Light build + aluminum stand = feels cheaply made.
2) The mute button is on the back. I use this mic at least once a week in a meeting where I must mute and unmute my mic many times during a one-hour meeting. Sure, you get used to where the mute is on the back, but it would be so much easier to have it on the front. Speaking of that…
3) The lights showing that the mic is on, muted or not, etc., are on the back of the mic also. On my mic, I’ve bent it down to where I can see these lights when I’m sitting. Otherwise, they’re on the top of the mic tilted back. I need to see if I’m muted or not. What was Shure thinking?
4) That last button… Why do I want to hear myself? That always breaks my brain. I don’t want to hear an echo of my voice, and unless I’m doing voice work in a voice studio, I never will. Useless feature in an office mic, I think. (YMMV)
5) The volume control knob. Thin, recessed, on the back… Hard to reach, inconvenient, just weird.
For most meetings, I don’t mute myself much, so I can use my on-screen controls or the Shure’s mute button. In other meetings, I’m going to be using the button and constantly wishing it was a different design. For the volume, I’m never going to use that knob, but my on-screen volume instead. The cheap-feeling build was useful in that it let me bend the mic stand easily when I “fixed” the hidden lights problem, although I know that wasn’t designed that way on purpose.
Overall, the sound of this mic is fantastic as a work mic. The build feels cheap and the design choices make me want to write an "what were you thinking?" email to the designer, but I'm guessing the sound must be where Shure put all their money.
I’ll keep using this mic despite its flaws due to that awesome sound, but I’ll also be watching for a better design on the next iteration.

First, the audio quality. I am using this mostly for video conferencing. I don't make YouTube videos, but I think this would be great for voiceover applications. For video conferencing, this microphone might not make a huge difference (depending on your office setup). I did a blind test by switching between my laptop (Macbook Pro) built-in microphone and the Shure mic (using "speech" mode). No one said anything to comment on the audio quality being different (and I purposely picked a call with people I know would comment on it if they noticed something). However, I did do some voice recordings to compare the built-in mic to the Shure mic. I can tell you there is absolutely an improved audio quality using the Shure mic -- this difference might just not be noticeable after all the compression that takes place during Zoom calls. From listening to my voice recordings using high quality Audeze headphones, I can tell you the noise floor is markedly reduced with the Shure mic (the noise floor is higher using Speech mode, but is still FAR lower than with the built-in microphone). Additionally, vocals sound significantly "richer" and "fuller" using the Shure mic. vs. the built-in audio. It is an across-the-board improvement, but the improvements might be moot after the heavy compression for video conferencing.
One significant use-case that I have been considering is using a laptop in "clamshell" mode. I have a large display at my desk, so I usually have my laptop screen closed. However, on video calls I open up my laptop to use the built-in camera. If I get an external video camera, I can keep the laptop closed for video calls. I tested the built-in microphone with the laptop lid closed, and it is MUCH worse than with the lid open (as to be expected). Comparing the audio with lid closed vs. the Shure is really no competition at all. The Shure absolutely blows it out of the water, and I think this would blatantly evident even after the heavy compression algorithms for video conferencing.
The included stand for this microphone isn't the most adjustable stand, but it works fine for me. You can adjust the vertical angle from the desk a little bit, but not much. With the microphone at the lowest angle, I think it's perfect for me. It points right at my mouth, and I did not have to bend my stand, as another reviewer noted they had to do. Also, note that the microphone has a standard 1/4-20 threaded connection at the bottom. You can attach it to any standard tripod if you want more adjustability (I included a photo with it on top of a Manfrotto mini tripod, for reference).
The microphone does have the ability to output audio through the headphone jack, but I did not test this functionality -- it's not useful to me, personally.
The main annoyance I have with this mic is the button and status LED location. The status LEDs are located on the top-rear of the light. With the front of the microphone pointing at my face, I cannot see the status LEDs. I have top bend way over the top to see the LEDs, which is rather annoying. Additionally, the controls to mute and engage speech mode are on the very back of the mic. It's not very intuitive to get to them and press them. I really wish the buttons were on the front (at least the mute button, which I use the most). After using this for a while, I have gotten decent at locating and pressing the mute button by feel. However, it would just be so much easier to have the buttons and status LEDs on the front. There really isn't a good reason they had to be on the back...

This is somewhat the case for almost any microphone so if you have a room with a lot of echo or reverb, you don't want this style of mic, and you should try for something closer to your mouth like a headset mic. If you absolutely need a desk mounted mic for personal or conference use, this one works well but you may hear a bit of an echo, and the farther away you are, the less crisp and more reverb you will hear. Still, it works as good or better than any other USB microphone I've used in this price range and it does look nice sitting on the desk.
The stand is metal and has an artistic, modern design. Fortunately, the thread is the same as any standard tripod so this microphone can be mounted on anything with a tripod screw. The microphone itself is black plastic and has a somewhat cheap feel to it but you don't really touch it and it does look nice. This definitely isn't the Shure of decades past, known for their almost unbreakable SM57 and SM58 which are still used today by so many bands for both live and recording.
I do like the dual nature of this microphone, useful for both personal and conference applications. It's fairly small so it can travel but the round shape does make it a bit larger than it probably needs to be. Doesn't take up much room on a desk and the stand has a unique design allowing you to aim it up or forward depending on how tall you are and positioning of the microphone. It's reliable and I'm happy with it for general use. Good for video conferencing and sounds especially good in a small, well insulated room. It does pick up ambient noise fairly well so kids screaming in the background are going to be heard with this mic. But that also makes it good for large tables with people all talking into one microphone. I like the design, I don't like the plastic but the audio quality is pretty good and I'm happy with it overall.

Assembly was easy as you'd expect for a mic. Screw the ball (mic) into the base, plug in your desired cable USB A or C to mini USB and you're finished. You can choose to plug headphones in if desired.
Now it gets a little weird. There's a setup option, "Want to hear your own voice through your headphones?" This isn't the option I chose as I can hear myself when I speak. I don't know if this is a recording studio option, but it seemed odd to me. This probably could've been explained a bit better, maybe a use case, so I know what I'm missing or not missing.
The mute and mode buttons are on the back of the unit. This means you need to fumble around to get to the button. It would've made more sense to put them on either side of the logo at the very least.
The LED's indicating what mode you're in are on the top of the unit. In standard use mode, it effectively sits at a 45 degree angle if on a desktop, meaning if you're seated, you need to move the mic or stand up to see the LED's on top.
There's a rotary volume knob on the top back of the unit, which is very challenging to rotate.
Finally the mount. It's well made out of aluminum. I wish that it came with an option like so many webcams to clip on or rest on top of your monitor.
With those things said, I've been told that my voice sounds amazing and doesn't have the tinny voice that everyone has on video conference calls. There was some feedback initially, solved by moving the unit further away from my computer.

Unfortunately, the design is fairly terrible, especially considering there are many cheaper mics that sound just as good and are much better built (and well known) such as the Blue Snowball.
If you're directly in line with your mic, parallel to the table (which you may never be), the mic is balanced but the usb cable shoots out the back onto where your keyboard will most likely be. Angle the mic up to your mouth at a normal angle and the cable juts out less but the balance is now way off - any large vibration or slight touch will topple the mic backwards.
If the stand were made out of steel (which is cheaper and heavier), or simply better designed, this would be much less of an issue. And if the usb cable connection point were better and the cable longer (its currently stiff and short with long stiff ends), this would be even less of an issue.
This is still a very good mic, and I wouldn't be overly surprised if Shures excuse was that "all the money went into the sound quality," but for $5 more they should've been able to drastically increase the user experience. Even bending the metal slightly more to allow the mic to work "backwards" would've been a step up.

The sound quality is phenomenal and it is tailored for those working from home. Of you want to elevate your sound quality in your set up this might be the microphone for you. There is an easily accessible mute button in the back as well as a volume adjuster that controls the volume.
In all essence it is a great microphone but I am not quiet sure why Shure decided to modify its previous MV5 for this. The MV5 had a cost that was similar to this one with a couple of more features that were taken out. I feel like they rebranded their MV5 and took some features out which is why I am taking 1 star away from this microphone.
Overall great product with a confusing approach.

This microphone is soooo cute, it has a bit of a classic/vintage feel to it and I've had compliments on people who saw my desktop setup, as well as on how good my voice sounds in meetings and on recordings. I hate the sound of my voice, but was pleasantly surprised. The difference between this and a built-in microphone on your computer or webcam is night and day.
Setup took less than 5 minutes and I was a little confused why Shure is still using mini USB, but it has USB-A and USB-C cables so plugged right into the computer with no issues.
It has a stand so you can use it right out of the box.

This is a small directional condenser microphone so how I position it on the desk does affect the sound quality. It is meant for picking up sound for one or two people sitting in the same general direction. I think the software does add some digital processing to enhance voice sounds. It's perfect for those who don't want to keep a large microphone on their desks. This even comes with its own small stand with non-slip pads under it to keep it in place. Under the mic is a microUSB port and a headphone jack for monitoring your voice. I don't know why they haven't converted over to USB-C yet but I remember reading about a reason for that.

This microphone is everything I wanted. It looks very elegant, it sounds perfect, and it's super easy to set up. I don't mind spending time setting up a microphone, but if I ever want to move it to another machine, having it ready to go as soon as I plug it in is comforting.
The stand feels very sturdy, and the whole package brings a feeling to my setup that's a nice mix between space age, and classic.
Overall this is now my favorite mic.
Highly recommended.

Now for my day gig, I needed a powerful microphone for my home office and Shure, once again beat my expectations.
The setup is simple and includes a Quick-Start Guide.
A caveat: You will need to double-check your computer audio settings to make sure (or Shure) your new mic is recognized and working.
Bottom line: I like the sound, design and space saving qualities of the MV5C office mic. This mic will make you a "rock star" on conference calls and webinars too with the confidence and clarity you need.
