Affordable hard disk replacement for old laptop
Four stars for the item itself, since its a good hard disk with IDE/ATA interface but not the best in performance.
If you are looking for the number one in performance you should go for Samsung HM160HC, also available in amazon.co.uk.
Seagate ST980815A benchmarks are also remarkable, sequential write & read average speeds of 42 Mb/s( Samsung's are near 60Mb/s)
Great hard disk for the price.

IDE Drive working ok
IDE Drive was easily installed and working ok. Used HP's really useful how to do it site on their support page to show how to remove and install the HD drive on my laptop.

Perfectly suited
I approached this with fear and in trepidation thinking that there was a catch in the price and whether it was new. I had no need to worry, the delivery was excellent, next day, and the everything worked fine.

Avoid this supplier
Used unit supplied, estimate it was 3/4 years old based on internal log. Should have been half the price or less for a second hand unit. It was advertised and sold as new.
Took too long to fit, rebuild the operating system and make operational before it's age became apparent, so too much hassle to remove and return.
Not Amazons fault, but they did ship it from their stock.
I will avoid non Amazon suppliers in future, sorry to the good ones, the cheats cost you business.

seagate 80gb hard drive
Bought this hard drive to replace 40gb hard drive as needed more storage. Its quite old and hard to get hold of. I cloned existing hard drive to this new one without any problems and when i put new one in my laptop it worked perfectly. Very pleased with this item as i was expecting some problems with compatibility.

Be careful - this is an IDE not a SATA drive
Just a warning because it does not say in the title IDE. This is not a SATA laptop drive.

Admittedly it doesn't say IDE but it does clearly state ATA-100 which I think you'll find is the same thing :-)

The drive works very well. My old laptop came with only a 10 GB HD so the 80 GB capacity of this one is welcome. However, my laptop will accommodate a 160 GB drive. After purchasing the 80 GB drive at what appeared to be a good price, i.e., significantly less than a couple of others of the same size that I found, I located a new 160 GB drive for about 20% less than I paid for the 80 GB drive.

Purchased this in part because of a review by "Keith" here. As he, I installed in my older Powerbook G4. So far, working like the original drive (that died). Performance as expected in terms of speed; it's an older model drive. Really glad to have had the previous review before purchasing. Good purchase.

Ordered two of the for some older automation pcs running Win2000. One worked fine but had approx 40k runtime already on disk was definitely a system pull. The other was DOA. For the price though eh, what can you expect. Would roll the dice again if I need more.

Arrived quickly & nicely packaged in static sleeve. Installed easily in a Mac Mini G4 and has been working well thus far.
Note: I didn't see a date of manufacture on the hard drive. I saw some codes stamped, which may have been date codes, but am used to seeing actual dates on hard drives. Cause for concern?
