I've had my SG300 for 3 years now, and it inexplicably stops on its own (you can hear an internal shutoff click) and, ultimately, freezes, and all data is lost. It failed from the first time used. If I attend to it by not letting any time lapse, I'm ok, but that's hardly reliable! I've initialized countless times over the years. I'm on a Mac. The software that came with it was for a PC. In case it's my mistake (not knowing how to use it) I've talked to countless people (PC/Mac) and researched on the web and no one has a solution, but I AM reading about similar complaints. I use it ONLY as my secondary backup, which I keep offsite. My firewire LaCie Porsche, on the other hand, works flawlessly! I don't take this SG seriously.

I purchased this external hard drive for my laptop computer and after receiving it had to return it, as I did not have the SATA drive on my laptop. Be careful before ordering external hard drives and know what your connection is. Looked like a nice product though if I could have used it. The rating is not accurate as I never used it.

I purchased this drive to use with a Scientific Atlanta DVR Explorer 8240 (all digital tuner) from Cox Cable in cleveland ohio. It formatted correctly on the first try and after being up and running for a month there has not been one glitch. In fact the dvr works better when it is using the external drive, than it does with the internal. Only advice is to make sure you get a Backup power supply.That way the drive wont power down in an outage.
