Our IT department had a sudden and critical need for specific replacement drives for our Dell servers, as we experienced two near-simultaneous drive failures. I searched the web for matching replacement drives, and found what looked like a great deal on Amazon.com.When we originally ordered a pair of these NEW drives from Amazon reseller Prince Technology, LLC, we received poorly-packed, salvaged drives with altered product labels. Though the listing was for NEW drives, they were quite obviously used and appeared to be taken out of an IBM server(s), as there was label adhesive (leftover from a removed label) over an area that said something to the effect of "IBM warranty void if identification label altered or removed." Just great - no telling how many hours these used drives had already logged. The drives were packaged in wrinkled, re-used anti-static bags and "sealed" with packing tape. Being desperate for operating drives to replace the failed checksum drives in two RAID arrays, I installed them only to discover to my horror that one of the drives was DOA. When I registered my complaint online, I received an almost immediate callback from the vendor, and they were kind enough to apologize and send replacement NEW drives. Though he promised to send them overnight, they were sent two-day - BUT, they were at least FINALLY as described in the original order receipt, "Condition: NEW". They were in Seagate factory-sealed pouches with desiccant, and packed appropriately for shipping. I was finally satisfied that we had gotten what we ordered, albeit with the whole rigamarole of having received and tested SALVAGED JUNK, complained, and had to wait even longer for the correct merchandise to arrive while my mission-critical servers were affected.What happened next, however, was what stunned me. I left what I felt was fair and accurate "feedback" on my buyer experience with this vendor. Had I received the correct NEW drives in the first place with no problems, of course I would have left "Positive" feedback. Had he not replaced the junk drives that were originally sent, we would have registered a dispute with our credit card company to reverse the charge and certainly left negative feedback (and probably filed a "fraud" complaint as well). However, because he did the right thing in the end and sent the correct merchandise AFTER OUR COMPLAINT (but asked us to ship back the junk drives at OUR expense), I left an honest "neutral" feedback score of three stars. That's when the calls, voicemails, and email messages started:"Hey,I overnight 2 drives so you would leave me a Positive feedback :(You left us a neutral feedback dropped me good 2% on my Amazon feedback rating from a 100 to 98%.I would appreciate it if you went ahead and deleted you comment."I had to write in essence a 'cease and desist' message, to which Mr. Maz Jaffer of Prince Technology replied:"Sorry abt that mr richard. Making it right the second wasn't good enough and I have sent that label to you twice on that same email just check the attachments.Its all good tho I don't have to harrass you anymore. Atleast I know now that that are people out there who have never done mistakes in life :)Not only that as per our company policy all defective units must be returned prior to sending a replacement and I still went ahead shipped a replacement so MR RICHARD that was unhappy could be HAPPY again.I did appreciate your business but is a veryyyyyyy small orders compared to orders we receive on daily basis. I'm not gonna stress over a 100$ hard drive.I hope you don't buy from us again because we will cancel it and refund your money on the spot. I regret everything about having ever engaged in this terribly unprofessional transaction, and I seriously doubt I will be using Amazon.com for professional business parts sourcing in the future. Amazon is great for personal gift giving and discount shopping, but I will never again subject myself or my company in another mission-critical situation to this level of havoc!As for the Seagate drives - they are PnP and appear to be functioning as expected. The previous drives (same model#) were online 24/7 for about 3 years before dying - hopefully these replacements (Seagate 146GB 2.5" 10K RPM SAS 3Gb/s; Cache 16mb ST9146802SS) will outlast the remaining life of the servers.

If I could leave 2.5 stars then I would.We elected to purchase from this seller because there were no other options for "new" drives. If it had been listed as used then there wouldn't have been anything about the seller, price or item that set it apart.When we received the drive we suspected it was used for the following reasons:1) It was in an HP caddy. We wanted it for a dell server - (from the a later correspondence with the seller "these drives are we sell are always sold in a caddy so that consumer does not need to spend extra dollars looking for caddies as we pride ourselves in excellent customer service")2) no original packaging - Drives listed as new should have something about them that indicates that they are new. Original packaging would help.3) not a sealed anti-static bag (It was a wrinkled, re-used anti-static bag and "sealed" with a sticker.)4) friction marks on the drive pins like it had been inserted into a device already - (This was the most telling to us. If the drive was new then it shouldn't have friction scratches on the pins. This would only happen from connecting it somehow. If we had the original packaging and a sealed bag then we wouldn't be as likely to complain.)None of these tell us that it was used for sure but all together it leads us to suspect that it wasn't new. If you sell a product that in every way appears to be used then you shouldn't list it as new and hope that the customer will take your word for it. Even if it was new this drive should have been listed as used to avoid the customer feeling duped when we opened it and evaluated the condition.We are happy with the drive to this point but feel that it is likely we were sold a drive that wasn't new, but rather a surplus drive that at best sat for a while, and at worst was used for an unknown period of time and resold as new.Another complaint that we have is it was (likely) packaged with and HP system and because of that we won't be able to avail ourselves of the warranty through the drive manufacturer. This might be an issue down the line as a new drive would have a 3 year warranty and this seller only offers a 1 year warranty. This would be something that we'd like to know ahead of time. Because it's also (likely) part of an HP purchase we can't check with the manufacturer to verify the date it was sold as new.Because of the general appearance and condition of the drive, we feel it probably should have been listed as "used" or "like new".
