But, I'm getting really sick and tired of companies assuming I'd pay for internet on my cell phone AND a separate internet line for my PCs, including my DAW.
Why would I put my DAW on the internet? Ignoring the viruses and exploits of cheap internet routers - I'd have to worry about those clowns in Redmond jamming a half-baked Windows 10 update down my throat and bricking my system.
If you're going to go to the trouble of making the device a readable drive, then put the stupid drivers on it. If they don't work, THEN I'll go to the trouble of downloading drivers. Don't make me waste my time upfront.
To the input 1-2 controls and you have to add them that way. Thought that was funky but other than that it set up awesome. Using MacOS Mojave (can’t use Catalina with my superior drummer ☹️) and Logic Pro x 10.4.5 (10.5 breaks my Native Instrument plug-ins ....) I had to manually select the scarlet in the logic options and it was gold. Sound quality is awesome.
Good: easy to use, amazing sound quality, small
Bad: not sure the usb C cable it comes
With is thunderbolt 3 seems like cheap junk but works. Not sure how I feel yet about controlling the levels in software. Works good but it’s kinda odd. The unit is made in China unfortunately. Other than that it’s a solid device for home recording.
Setup: 5/5
Setup took me less than 5 minutes. The app it installed was easy to use and focusrite actually gives you step by step videos of showing how to get it connected/registered.
Sound: 4.5/5
Okay so I have used and owned interfaces that cost $4,000 or even much more than that, and this interface holds its own when compared. It has great depth and clarity, nothing seems overly hyped or boosted. When compared to something much more expensive, I would say the differences are actually very minimal. So, if you're concerned about sound quality, I think this is perfect for the money.
Use/Functionality: 5/5
The main reason I bought this interface was so that I could use it for live shows and recording 10+ things at once (drums) at any location I wanted. Don't be fooled, you have to buy focusrite's octopre extension in order to record 16 inputs at once at 24 bit/96k quality, but it connects easily and is very easy to use. So bottom line for functionality, it's small/easy to use, and has 10 great inputs out of the box.
The tech support is *excellent*. My headphone's adaptor got stuck in one of the monitor outputs--just got caught in something, not sure what happened, but it just would *not* come out. I was able to use the other other jack just fine while I worked on a fix. Tech support handled the RMA quickly and I got a replacement unit in about a week. Very smooth process and everyone was very, very nice and supportive throughout. I am just glad I kept the box around to ship it back!
Anyway, I use this primarily for in-home recording for voice over auditions and have test it out for streaming purposes as well---works great for both applications. I fear that this might be overkill--you can do a LOT with this box -- but I am very, very happy with the purchase. My only regret is not having bought this earlier, I would have booked more gigs!
I have installed focusrite control and connected the condenser mic into input 1 and connected iPhone using 1/4 inch to 3.5mm cable into input 2. I have connected headphone into headphone 1. I have started singing a song and very disappointed with the sound. It was echoing a lot and lot of static noise. I was able to do plug and play with 25$ iRig device and sound quality was excellent. But with focusrite nothing but disappointment. I tried various settings and no solution for the echo effect on headphone.
I have searched in google and many suggested to follow some steps and still having the issues. I will return the focusrite and will continue to use with iRig.
18i20 vs apollo twin mkii:
-no dsps (processors on the interface [though the uad archaic ones suck depending on which plugins you use])
-uad console is much better than focusrite control
-uad plugins are more exciting i think
-not as fancy preamps
+the sample rate on this just works (its preamps function without adding weird audio glitches on my tube mic due to what i think is some bug with sample rate)
+on this there is no buffering or severe latency compared to some of the settings i have to tweak on the apollo to get what i need
+the usb on this just works (usb-c to usb-a)
+the 8preamps work and the air effect sounds cool but i havent been able to figure out if i can enable that manually by hand or not
+the plugins and lite demos of software are an appreciated bonus
-/+ (depends on you): no thunderbolt, for me i wanted usb

this was really a special use review if you're really just shopping for high-tech ADAT solutions to expand your i/o :)
He’s an audiophile. I mean through and through. This unit is ULTRA clean and if you hit the air button you get ULTRA Sheen! So it’s a great little production tool if you going for that sound. I feel like it has great potential but, I honestly only purchased it for the plug-in that comes with it!
Yes you read that right! I purchased the hardware to acquire the software that is only available bundled with the hardware.
I like the sound of the focusrite line but, I own and run a UA Apollo rig. But I love focusrite! Especially their pres.
There are two well-documented "drawbacks" I've found:
1) You can't have all of the analog inputs (8 physical inputs on the device itself) and the two PC inputs (stereo playback from USB-connected PC) active at the same time. It makes sense, though, otherwise it would be the 10i6 and not the 8i6.
2) The mix for headphone output 1 is locked to the mix for outputs 1 & 2, and the mix for headphone output 2 is locked to the mix for outputs 3 & 4. Again, this makes sense because otherwise this would be the 8i10 if it had four additional output channels (L&R for each headphone output).
So these aren't "drawbacks" per se. It's just designed that way and you have to plan around it.
The manual says that the SPDIF is the input source for the 7th & 8th inputs which is where I’d like to put the other stereo keyboard but there is only 1 in and 1 out for the SPDIF so where’s the other input?
When I try to run any signal into the SPDIF I get nothing out to the computer. I’ve searched online and searched the manual ant tried all input output settings but haven’t found a solution. I feel jipped out of 2 inputs.
Ottimo prodotto
del resto tutto eccellente!
