I upgraded from an S3 in order to get 4G. I was undecided on an S5 or the S5 Neo and gave up the fingerprint recognition in favour of getting the waterproofing without the annoying little tab over the charging port on the S5. I haven't regretted my decision at all. The phone had started to become a little laggy but I just got the recent Marshmallow upgrade through and have fallen in love all over again!

This is NOT a "newer" version of the flagship S5. On the contrary, it is a stripped down version with a whole host of really useful features removed. This is a real and substantial downgrade from the original S5 (in fact it's somewhat of a downgrade from the S3 too). Mine keeps freezing and callers can't hear me when I speak on the speakerphone mode (I have tested this extensively and multiple times). Below are just SOME of the downgrades :

-The super tough industry leading Corning Gorilla Glass removed so not as robust and the screen feels very weak and plastic like.
-Alarm app now has no adjustable snooze functions and NO smart alarm mode either (yes that's right they've removed them).
-No "Direct Dial" Widget or "Direct Message" Widget (I kid you not, they've removed them).
-The ability to reduce background noise for callers removed.
-The ability to change the voice tone in the phone app removed.
-Camera doesn't have 4K video like the S5 had (4k actually coincidentally has 4x more detail than Full HD)
-Gallery photos ALWAYS rotate even if you've switched off auto rotate, which means when you view a range of photos which are mixed portrait and landscape, instead of just turning the phone around (which takes a blink of an eye) you will have to either see it in the wrong orientation or you'll have to edit each picture. Yet another useful "upgrade".
-Lock screen buttons much smaller (yes apparently that's another more helpful upgrade)
-Assistive Light is not a widget but now a torch in the pull down menu.
-The 8 Core CPU is much slower than in original S5 (by quite a margin in most performance tests)
-Display does not have as many dimming options as the S5 (yes apparently more options are bad).
-The bubbles and message app options severely limited (default is bright orange themed).
-As you may know an AMOLED screen consumes more power the brighter the colours are, so whilst before where Samsung phones had black background with clear white text (saved battery and was much more discreet) the background colours are all bright white now, so not only will the phone create a whole bright white light in most menus, the battery will drain faster too. Another really useful "upgrade" of the software.
-Home button has to be pressed exactly in the middle otherwise it won't work.
-The charging / data port is now USB 2.0 and not USB 3.0 (like the S5). This reduces the ability to encrypt your SD Card and use the cable to transfer images and videos speedily.
-Infrared port removed (which was handy in the S5 - you could use it as a remote control)
-In the contacts list as you scroll down, the search box also disappears (it's scrolled up out of the the screen - whilst in older phones the search box is always present so if you had searched the wrong letter, you can just type the correct one in, instead you now have to scroll up all the way up until the search box appears again.
-The Home screen doesn't scroll across in a loop, so if you're searching for a app in the last home screen you can't swipe to go back one, you have to scroll through each home screen.
-The camera app gives a loud buzz sound when you start recording video (unless the phone is on mute), there is NO other way to stop this intrusive noise.
-Ironically, when you take a picture there is NO confirmation beep for finding focus..!
-When in the "Gallery", if you scroll through images and you come to the last one (and you don't know it's the last one) and you swipe again - it goes into the camera mode...!
-When in camera mode the video perspective is a bit different but there is no way to frame the video as the perspective shown is always the camera perspective, it only goes into the video aspect ratio once you start recording.
-There is not repeat option for notification for the messages (eg, Once, or every 5mins, every 10min). A really useful feature I use so if I missed the beep for a text message, the phone will beep again (according to what repetition mode I set).
-The LED is really really really dim. I could not see the red charging dot and could hardly see the Blue dot for messages.
-No option to keep the 2 Key lights on (they light only when pressed.... duh.. really helpful..NOT).

This list is not exhaustive, but I really can't be bothered to list all my grips else it seems I am moaning too much, but I will say this, it's not about nit picking, it's the idea that functions I use and were available in phones with less CPU power, less RAM and and older silicone technology have been deliberately taken away. Why...? So they can sell more apps and more flagship phones, like the S6 & S7 which are merely better tracking devices for companies to improve their targeted advertising of their products ( and these phone which don't have removable batteries either - designed and built to ensure guaranteed quicker obsolescence by making changing a 10quid battery cost you 100quid 2-3 day repair job). Progress.

Now some of you might say just download an app for some of the missing features. Let's look at this option ; If you download an app to do something which should be part of the phone's core features (and require negligible CPU or RAM usage), this is what happens - the app has to make money (that's the whole point) and this will manifest itself in one of 3 ways, the app will constantly persuade you to undertake an "in-app purchase", or it will show adverts sporadically or frequently (just depends what the app maker wants to do), you could just pay for the apps to avoid the ads, but in which case they will at some point keep showing you a pop up messages about upgrading to the latest version of that app (and by the way in the initial period when you've newly bought the app to avoid ads you will have to permanently keep signed into Google, who will then track your every message/email, calls, whereabouts, keystrokes, wifi passwords, listen to your conversations, have access to your SMS message history, access to all your contacts, your camera, your browsing history etc etc etc). So yes you can download apps, but the caveat is, the app becomes a direct connection to your identity which tracks everything (yes everything) and uses YOUR Data allowance (and your phones processing power - so it slows your phone down) to send all this information back to whomever it wishes. The new idea is to remove all functionality from devices and make users sign in to make use of the product which then tracks everything about you.

As well as all that I mentioned above the manufacturers also install tonnes of apps which are pre loaded and use CPU power, RAM and waste storage space. The whole thing is designed to track everything to sell you more services (something you don't really own but pay to use).

In the future phones will have no useful apps, you'll just buy a phone and inevitably it will become an advertising box for the various businesses associated with the apps you need to download to make the device work as intended. It's what Windows 10 is and the way things are going. Sad.

I am in the process of returning this item as the freezing issues is not acceptable.

I love this phone. For the price played it is hard to beat. There was a struggle with the initial setup as it was in Polish and I had to reach the start screen to get into the menus and change it to English! Someone else might know a shortcut but I am not very technical and resorted to translation. Anyway after that everything was great. The display and camera are outstanding. Very happy customer.

This thing is a beast! I like what Samsung did with the S5 Neo.
I went to buy this one instead of the S6 or S7, because it is cheaper but has (more or less) the same functionality.
The camera is amazing and 90% of the time you get the same performance as the latest Samsung flagship phone.
I don't know where the 10% is, probably gaming that I don't do?

My old S3 was getting horrendously slow so time for an upgrade. The S5 Neo is running all my apps with ease (no messing around shutting things down to free up memory etc.) so very happy. It started up initially in some Slavic language but the first option was to set the language so no problem.It works fine with my UK (giffgaff) sim.

First Samsung smart phone, the screen is fantastic :-)) super bright and very clear. I prefer this to my iPhone 5S and loving the android apps. Very pleased with the micro sd card slot, have put in a 32gb with loads of mp4 videos and MP3 music to keep me entertained on nights away. Very happy !!!!

Getting to know slowly, but it appears to be a good buy.

I had a Samsung S4 for ever. I broke it by accident about 4 months ago, and bought this as a replacement. From the start it seemed inferior in various ways, but I accepted it. This weekend the Samsung S5 Neo broke. I left it charging overnight. In the morning it was dead; and I quickly found that it would start with a new battery (charged externally), but would not charge. The charging had damaged the phone. The time was reset to 1 Jan also. I also found that the phone got very hot and discharged very fast. Swapping batteries did not help. It looks as if the motherboard developed a short circuit, or the charger overloaded it. I've not done anything unusual for a mobile user; so I am mightily annoyed at spending so much on something which has clearly been manufactured too cheaply. Avoid.

I bought this phone from ETI Deals less than a year ago and after about 10 months of use the phone started to display problems with the sd card, randomly mounting and unmounting the card and corrupting the data. I contacted ETI to get them to look at it (As you can see they supplied a spiffy looking little years warranty card in the box when I bought the phone. I contacted them to get them to take the phone and repair or replace it but I never heard anything from them. All I can say is Do not buy from this supplier, they are not in the least bit trustworthy.

Really great smartphone. I was looking for a quick upgrade for my former S4 and this one hit the target. Price was really good and so far I really enjoy superb quality of this item. Also I only can praise seller STARS COM UK. Great job. Delivery was also very quick.

As expected - this is a good phone.

This is the slowest phone i have ever used. It was slow out of the box don't know if i got a bad one or not but the phone i got was really slow and crashes all the time. Good points, the camera is pretty nice so is the screen

Top phone bought to replace an ailing S4. Love Samsung phones and this has a great screen and works far better than the old s4 did. Battery is amazing.

Really pleased with this phone. Very fast going from app to app and screen to screen. Camera is really good, the magnifying of any photo is brilliant and clear. Its great.
