- - Компания Ricoh отказала в гарантийном ремонте аппаратов Ricoh Aficio SP C831DN обслуживании при обнаружении конструктивного дефекта в результате которого на валу печи образуется нагар на валу в печи принтера который приводит к тому что на листе смазывается не прогретый тонер. Дефект явно гарантийный так как обнаружился сразу на двух аппаратах в разной степени, расположенных у нас в предприятии в разных отделах, соответственно с разной нагрузкой по печати.

- + Работал без нареканий, в т.ч. при заметных "перепробегах" по ресурсу наборов обслуживания.
- - Высокая стоимость владения. На детали MK тратилось в среднем по 75 т. р. на каждые 170-200К пробега. Это с учетом максимального растягивания...

I have now owned 4 different color laser printers. Compared to the others, all under $1,000, this outshines them all. But for the price, given some of the deficiencies below, I give it 4 stars, not 5. Of course, for the price, this should do all the things you'd want it to do excellently, and it does. Paper handling, print quality, print speed, are all excellent. I needed a printer that can handle card stock up to 11 x 17 and this does. Print quality is excellent. AND, according to research, is one of the cheapest to operate. In our little print shop I can charge a price per color image that is less than what people can do at home on their inkjet, make money, and save them money. That's the way it should be.
First of all, this is NOT a desktop. It needs to be on it's own right height cart. Putting it on the floor would make it too high, putting it on a table/desk would make it too high.
I don't know if I pushed the wrong button or it came this way, but I could not access my own printer settings until I contacted customer service and was told the default password to get into administrative controls. The second call I learned I can turn all of this off, which I did.
This thing is designed to be a workhorse serving several work stations. For one person, the settings and controls are a bit overwhelming and sometimes just plain a hindrance. Two examples:
1. I print things for 3 different organizations and want to keep track of how many prints for each. I set up a user number for each of them. Problem is, the setting in the printing preferences for inserting the user number is not on the main preference screen... which means I either forget to enter a user number meaning the print goes no where, or I have to click 2 or 3 times just to get to the place to enter the user number. When I worked in an office where we were charged for the prints we used (we were independent contractors using a shared printer), the user number was right up front and would not let me even click the print button without entering the correct number. With this printer, it's easy to forget to enter it, and it will let you enter "print" and you hear the printer come to life and then does NOTHING, so you have to return to the print dialogue and go a few clicks into it to enter the code.
2. It's not uncommon for printers these days to have to indicate what kind of paper you have in a drawer. The problem with this printer is that there is no way to temporarily override that setting with the print dialogue. For example, the tray is set to "standard paper" but I have just loaded in coated paper for this particular run. I set the computer print dialogue to "coated paper". The printer will NOT let me print to that tray until I set the tray setting to "coated paper" using the printer settings. What I would like it to do is just give me a warning, let me choose to override, and go ahead and print that run using that tray.
CUSTOMER SERVICE IS OUTSTANDING: Ok, so I've only had to call them twice, and in both cases if it would have been covered in the manual (it wasn't), I wouldn't have needed to. BUT having said that, the response time on the telephone was excellent both times, the person on the other end spoke perfect English (I could care less where they were, as long as I can understand them), and they knew the product well.

I ordered this printer in a bundle (from another vendor) sight unseen, based on the reviews here, and the professional reviews from the other vendor. I was nervous having never even seen a print from it, but the feature list, outstanding reviews and great price made it hard to pass up. I had some issues at first (see below), but after using it for a while now I am loving it more and more.
Pros:
12"x18" paper capacity (even 12"x49" banner, though I haven't tested it). Beautiful print quality; fine details show up well, halftone/dithering pattern is tight, and similar to offset printing. Toner finish is fairly glossy for high quality photo prints. Color registration is tight, even on large prints (11x17). Color accuracy is pretty close (once calibrated using the provided reference cards). Handles thick paper (I have tried up to 250g/m2), and fuser is more than capable of getting hot enough for it (see notes below). Low cost consumables (half the cost of most other printers). Comes with toner (but only 12K pages, compared to 27K for full cartridges). Comes with auto-duplexer.
Cons:
HUGE; I use it mainly for my own hobbies, and it takes up a lot of space in my small home office. Power hungry; I had to install a dedicated breaker (only 15A though) because it kept tripping my breaker when shared with my computers. Thick paper cannot be auto-duplexed; it has to be manually fed through the bypass (hardly a deal breaker though). Large smooth gradients are a little splotchy, not horrible, but not perfectly smooth (solid colors look good though).
Notes:
USE THE RIGHT DRIVER. I started out with the "universal driver" which turned out to be limited in its capabilities. The real driver has more options for paper, quality finishing, etc.
USE THE RIGHT PAPER SETTING. My previous experience with laser printers was that the fusers were underpowered, and I needed to over-compensate in the settings to get it to fuse properly on thick paper. Turns out RICOH has set the temperatures properly, and using higher settings causes more problems like ghosting (parts of the image are partially transferred further down the page), color desaturation, banding, etc. I almost regretted buying the printer every time I printed on thick coated paper, because these problems kept showing up. Turns out it was my own stupidity in using too thick of a setting, and ever since using the right settings it has been printing great.
Conclusion:
If you are on the fence, then just buy this printer. After playing it for a while, and figuring out my mistakes I am loving it. Print quality is great, and long term cost should be lower than other printers.

I'm a painting and roof coating contractor in Tucson and have used an OKI C3400 color laser for the last 5 years or so. Was happy with the OKI but I killed the first one by reloading my own cartridges. Having an additional $500 in left over cartridges I bought another one and a few years later the latch started acting up. Decided to upgrade so I could print 11x17 pages - both sides and make my own quote books. Did hours of research and eliminated the HP printers using wax since its too hot here. I.E. the wax ink on the papers would melt when left in my truck during the summer. HP tech support confirmed this for me, and ironically they are also nearby in AZ. Settled on the C830dn. This thing is massive and heavy. It probably weighs 200lbs - which I took as a good sign. I'm pretty computer proficient and have built about 50 pc's from scratch so I wasn't afraid of trying to set up the duplex printing for creating books. Using Adobe In-Design publishing software, getting the first book to come out correctly was quite a chore. Probably took 2+ hours of trial and error and a hundred sheets of paper (yes there are that many variables in the software). Almost all of the settings are software related on the PC side of things. Ended up writing in pencil on the pages and then printing test books to see where my pencil marks were in order to get oriented. Have owned the printer for a year or so now, and don't have any complaints. My quote books look great and I get frequent compliments about them from clients and prospective clients. No other contractors are doing this here to my knowledge, so all the graphics and information gives me an advantage. I'm sure I don't run this printer as hard as it was designed to be and I'm probably only running 100 or so pages a week through it. There is a noticeable wait (like I've seen on all other lasers) for it to spool up when the first job goes to it. The only negative is the weight (which to me is also a sign of its high quality). I used a dolly to get it into my house, and had to have one of my employees help me get it off the dolly and under my desk. You will not be dragging this around and setting it up by yourself I'm 6'" and 220 lbs and my back gets sore even thinking of moving it which I've had to do twice. Didn't have password issues or any other problems getting it set up and connected to my computer. So long as you know about the weight, I'd recommend this printer to any small business or high end homeowner without a moments hesitation. Cheers Rob Anderson Tucson AZ

The best printer I've ever had. This is a powerful work horse. Print results are excellent. It's blistering fast and very efficient. Toner usage is minimal and a cartridge seems to last for ever. I read several reviews about its outstanding printing abilities and low per-page costs. It is true! I love this machine!
We use it in a small business environment. We print color copies of our specifications brochures (which change frequently, so it makes no sense to have them offset-printed) and they turn out so great on 32lb paper that it is really not necessary to have them professionally printed. We also print a lot of technical drawings on 11x17 and they turn out crisp and sharp.
I can give this machine my wholehearted recommendation!

Shop around, I got this for under $3,000 with shipping to my door step. It does weigh in at 200+ pounds, but once I set it up - I was stunned at the quality. Note the dimensions, it barely fit through my back door. Rather than spend $500 on their wheels, I bought a 2' x 2' -3/4" Oak plywood and put wheels on it for a cost of $30. Fast, really fast, duplex pages out faster than I get up to go to the printer. I tried the 12" x 12" coated 100# paper, it works well with no issues and the pictures put most ink jets to shame. Extra drawers are a bit pricey, but I think all high end printers have that issue. Love the extreme low cost per page printing, but the unit ships with low count toner, and the high capacity set is $550. considering I pay that in 3 months on ink jets, that toner will hold out for over 2 years = major savings. Also when setting up, you will need a password, which I could not find anywhere. Looked on line to find it was the same on all machines until you change it (admin). If you are sick of Ink Jet Junk, want a Laser that will last you for 10+ years, sick of the disposable lasers and high cost of maintaining, THEN this IS the printer for you. It replaced my worn out HP4500DN that was 10+ years old. Other parts I found on this machine I loved was the energy save mode. Still working on the fine details with it, but since I may go a day or so without printing, shutting down on its own is a great idea. The build in screen was larger than I expected and very clear to read, but I still used my computer to set it up as you can see more options at one time.
Last comments - Fast - clean - user friendly - VERY low cost to run - software options beyond what you will ever need all equal the best printer I have ever seen for the money. Spend the extra cash, you will not regret it.

Have not quite burned up a toner tube yet, but getting close. So my cost per page is so cheap, it is hard to believe. Well worth the price. By now if this was a ink jet, I would have gone through well over $3,00o in ink, and still not happy.

This is a worthless piece of metal and plastic. Also, forget about updating, the latest drivers make it EVEN less usefull, less user friendly and even harder to find some options.The printer is ok as long as you don't print flat-color surfaces. Even when they are as small as a logo in a card, it will show weird white spots here and there, no matter how do you configure it. And well, if there's a configuration that prevents that, they should at least give you a hint about how to fix it.The paper jams quite frequently, specially if you go with anything about/beyond 100 lb. It will also stuck if you accidentally put a sheet in a different size than the one specified (let's say, you put a 8.5x13 and in the printer you specified that it will be 8.5x11) regardless of the size. Even a cheap 20$ canon printer can figure out what yo do in such situation, but this...I personally hate this printer. The dumbest one I've dealt with in my whole life.And please forgive my poor English, since it's not my native language.
