I suggest placing the mount on your bike and leaving it there. If you install and remove the mount frequently the plastic arms will eventually suffer fatigue failure and crack apart. This is a fault of the basic design of the mount. It should have some simple device, a screw or QR clamp that allows the arms to be tightened on installation and loosened during removal. Pulling the plastic arms apart to push them on or pull them off your bars is going to cause the arms to break, eventually.
The mount comes with rubber shims which go under the mount between the mount and whatever bar you put it on (probably your handlebars). You can use no shim for wider bars but the shim is necessary even on wider bars to prevent the mount from rotating around the bars from road vibration or shock. The shim can easily fall out of the mount when removing the mount from the bars so if you do that a lot be sure you don't lose your shim.
The mount can be swiveled left and right. This is good. But it's done with several interlocking plastic layers which slide against each other and these layers are not very tight. The swivel action is good, it won't move left and right on its own due to vibration or shock. But the camera will shake around in the mount (you'll definitely notice this in your video) and makes a really annoying squeaking plastic-on-plastic noise when you're riding on anything but perfectly smooth asphalt. I wrap a rubberband around the top of the camera in front, under the handlebars, then around the top of the camera in back and that dampens the shaking and eliminates the squeaking. It also adds time and extra steps every time I put the camera into or take it out of one of the mounts.
If you can get a decent low price on this and understand that unless you just install it once and leave it that it will eventually break, it's fine for recreational "action cam" purposes with the Polaroid Cube Act II and its variants with the same form factor. I don't see any other simple mounts for use with this camera so you're kind of stuck with this middling-at-best piece of kit to get it on your bike. It's OK but I wish they'd offer a different inexpensive mount which will stand up to repeated mountings and dismountings and doesn't introduce additional camera shake and vibration.
However I used it as a reference for a model to 3d print a replacement base with a clamp out of ABS and make a few other things, picatinny rail mount, ect.
I don't recommend this product at all. The reviews make it sound more functional than it actually is.
I've attempt to reduce the rattle by placing leaves and other objects I find along the trail under and behind the camera while riding, but to no avail.
My next step is to tape or glue a small velcro "dot" or other self-adhesive object inside the clip on which the camera can sit to try to alleviate the rattle.
Otherewise, this is a great little mount, holds my camera very steady, and alleviates the need to hold while filming.
I fixed this by wrapping a velcro-ish cable tie around the camera and the mount. Works perfectly now.
This product was obviously never tested on real roads. Avoid it.
Edit:
So I duct taped the swivel part back to the stand very firmly. It worked on my next run and actually held up going downhill through the woods. When I get home, I took it off and uploaded the video. When I put it back on the bike the two pieces that go on either side of the handle bars snapped. I did not even push it on hard or anything,it just snapped. As it turns out its not just the swivel that is cheap, its the entire product. For $18 I expect way more. DO NOT TRUST THIS TO HOLD YOUR $100 CAMERA. You would be much better off buying some duct tape and taping it on. At least it will hold it tighter. Alternatively build your own mount because this piece of junk is literally useless.
Last notes: bought in March 2015, broke in August 2015, was kept on bike outside under a bike cover from March to July, then kept on bike inside during August til broke.
Not as solid as I thought. After pinging off my handlebar and falling to the floor, one of the arms broke, making it a useless. A waste of £13!
Solidly built and holds onto the camera tightly. The reason I've only given it 4 stars is because the grip on each side is not soft rubber and due to this, has scratched my camera.
I used this mount and try to fix my cubic plus on the handlebar, but my camera fell to somewhere I couldn't retrieve it back.
The value of this mount is really poor, because it couldn't even make its job done, fixing your camera on your bike safely.
I strongly suggest whoever sees this review that please DO NOT BUY Polaroid's official products, because they aren't worth the price.
Also bitte Hände weg vom dem Artikel.
