I bought my Anafi when they first came out and, for a first-time drone owner, was amazed at the experience - - beautiful video and photos, lightweight, wonderful battery life, and a relatively easy learning curve. I found that the lack of a collision avoidance system (a product feature touted on the DJI Mavic) actually made me a better/more spatially aware pilot. I never had an encounter with the dreaded 'drone eating tree', and up to a few months ago, had no issues.
After a year of use, the camera gimbal started malfunctioning. When the drone first starts up, the gimbal goes through a three axis check, then levels itself for take-off. Unfortunately, mine had developed a jerking/shaky motion that made flying via the camera interface impossible. (See video) I reached out to Parrot via their website's customer service tool, and waited for a response. No response. I waited for a week. No response. I waited for two weeks. No response. I tried other methods of reaching out to Parrot, including via their FB page. No response.

FAA Licensed sUAS Pilot

I jumped on the parrot website and submitted a support ticket. I promptly received and automated email saying because I'm located in the U.S. my request for support would be handled by a third party vendor. This email included contact information for the US based vendor. I sent a reply to both parrots support email, and the 3rd party company, including video footage of my problem, and my contact information.
I waited a little more than a week for a response. At this point, I gave in and called parrots customer support line, and was apologized to by a very nice customer service rep, and told my ticket would be escalated. He said someone would contact me within 24 hours. I then waited another week and still no reply. The third party vendor had not reached out, nor had I received anything further from parrot.
I called support again, this time I was told that because the anafi thermal is not considered a consumer level drone, the parrot support call center would be unable to help me. Which seemed to contradict the conversation I had with parrot the first go around. I was told the suppprt department for the anafi thermal is only reachable via email, and I have no choice but to wait for a reply. At this point 3 weeks had past, and I've gotten no assistance or reply to my support ticket.
After a call to amazon customer service, and a three way call between amazon, parrot, and myself, parrot agreed to process an RMA for my anafi thermal. I was told by the parrot rep, a shipping label would be emailed to me within an hour. No shipping label was ever emailed.
Thanks to Amazon's customer support team, I was given a resolution to my problem that doesn't involve parrot in any way, shape, or form.
Only purchase this drone if you expect nothing from parrot after purchase. They offer no customer support for the anafi thermal in the U.S.

This one right out of the box is just MIND BLOWING. Small and lightweight yet sturdy and well built. At this price point it's far from the toy market but then again it's priced at the low end of the name brand drones and its capabilities are just amazing. You don't need to spend $1200.00 to get a quality video drone.
Let me walk you through the basic steps.
Unbox. Charge the battery and controller.
Download the FREEFLIGHT6 app from the app store.
Connect controller to drone via supplied USB C cable (OH YES... Standard usb C to charge both drone battery and controller)
One complaint others have had about the controller is that it does not grip the phone securely and the bottom edge. Your phone can easily slips out especially if it's in a case.. I fixed that by simply adding a small piece of of the hook velcro to the controller and a corresponding piece of the loop velcro to the phone case. Simple. Now when I install the phone it stays put.. No fuss no muss.
OK, if you are like me you are scared to death that your EXPENSIVE drone will go flying off never to be seen again.
You don't need to worry if you follow some simple precautions. Run through the setup as prompted.
Before you fly, let the drone sit for a few minutes to make sure it has a good satellite fix and its home position is set. You may even want to practice a takeoff and landing just to test it out.
NOTE: I think there may be a bug in the app because the GPS signal strength on the app main page never seems to show much signal strength but if you drill down to the calibration page, gps settings you will see the number of satellites it sees and a different signal strength.
The app also allows you to do something called has geo-fencing. Basically it allows you to tell the drone not to go too far or too high from its starting point. you can also change those numbers on the FLY.. so to speak.. LOL
Press the takeoff button and the drone pops into the air. It raises up about 3 feet and awaits your command.. COOL..
It does not go flying off. There is no TRIM.. there is no drift left and right up and down.. it stays where you put it...
I am not going to go into all the "modes" and customazations you can make.. see youtube for that.
Lets just say that even for a beginner this thing is as tame as a , well .. much better behaved than a kitten.. LOL
Once you grow more comfortable you can extend the geo-fencing to build up your confidence. Basically all you need to learn is left stick forward and back = UP/DOWN. Right stick forward and back= Drone forward and reverse. (that's very basic.. there a lot more to it than that but for a beginner, it's where you start.)
There are toggles to control the camera and buttons to start and stop video.
Battery life is excellent.. 20 minutes +
Also this little drone can handle wind. Every time I have flown it I have had strong winds of 10 to 12 mph with gusts to 16. This baby hovered like it was stuck to the spot with glue. Could not believe it.
Video is fabulous. Excellent natural colors and sharp as a razor. (straight not electric.. LOL).
The Micro SD card mount is a bit like an old smartphone sim card carrier. Place the card in the cage and slide to lock over it. Sort of fragile but it gets the job done.
Some people complain about it but so far I just treat it like glass and it has not been an issue.
I also upgraded the included 16gb micro sd card to a 128gb card so that's a LOT of 4K video recording time.
I highly recommend this drone.
Prices have really come down and at around $400 for a refurbished unit its a steal.
I suggest that you spring for a gimbal lock $6 and a carrying case that will carry the drone, control, extra batteries and accessories for another $20. Extra battery is pricy at around $95 but you can get that as you decide you need it. Since it recharges via USB C you can recharge all your batteries from a power pack.
For less than the price of a Maverick Mini you can have a 4K video drone that will outperform drones near twice the price. So if you want to get into drone video without breaking the bank.. Check out the ANAFI.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND-- I LOVE MINE!!!!!!!!

This drone has been a good investment and I've already seen great improvements in my skills. My goal is to get good enough with this to get my certification and start seeing if I can make a go at this professionally.
First and foremost, this thing is pretty darn easy to fly. The first rule I learned in the class is when things get dicey, just let go of the controls and the drone will stop where it is and stay there while the situation gets sorted out. And this does it perfectly. I am surrounded by trees and several times I've made mistakes and gotten really close. But I was able to maneuver away from them by letting go, figuring out where I was and the drone orientation, and making small movements to get it out of danger.
That being said, I have crashed it a few times and have not seen any real damage other than to the propellers.
The remote that comes with it is easy to use, just turn on the drone, open the controller, plug in your phone (if you want to) and away you go. It's important to note that this drone uses GPS to establish where 'Home' is, and it isn't advisable to start flying unless it has done so. If the home point isn't properly set, you may find it trying to fly back to where you last used it if it gets into trouble.
It is VERY important for anyone that wants to use this to get a little training, either online or in-person. This is an expensive device, and it's important to understand the legal aspects as well as the actual usage.
The drone is designed to respond to a virtual fence to keep it from getting too far away from the controller, including too high. I suggest the beginner find those settings and set them to no more than 50 feet high and 100 feet away. As one's skills improve, it can always be increased.
I spent a lot of time flying this about 3' off the ground around my back yard, doing figure eights, abrupt stops, flying it sideways, and other exercises until I got comfortable with it before I ever took it out to use it for longer distances. And it has always performed very well.
I have only had two complaints. Because of the trees, the drone won't pick up a GPS signal very well, it seems to lack proper antennae or receiver as the controller never has a problem. I've also experienced WiFi interference often which is very disconcerting when it stops responding and it's 200 feet away, 200 feet up, and over a bunch of trees. The last time it happened I noticed that the interference started and went away when a large SUV drove through the parking lot, new cars have WiFi hot spots so that may have been the issue.
As for the picture quality, it's simply amazing. I did a pretend inspection of my roof and could make out the types of screws used for the soffit vents. I did a mast inspection of a friend's sailboat and discovered a chafed rope at the top of the mast.
There are many settings for the flight controls to make it respond as fast or as slow as one wants. It's a little overwhelming at first, but practice helps.
I was surprised I had to spend 99 cents on a couple of automated features in the program. My guess is that Parrot has licensed this software and has to pay a royalty when used. That being said, it does seem a little cheap to not include it in the price. But overall, I didn't mind.

It shoots amazing 4K video.
I found the controls very intuitive and easy to use. The automatic flying modes are also relatively easy to understand, although I recommend you should stand in the middle of a large open field before you try out the automatic flying modes.
I managed to crash the drone two times, both due to my lack of understanding of the automatic flying modes. (See my comment about a large open field above).
In both cases the drone flew into a tree and fell to the ground but worked fine afterwards without any problem.
I recommend purchasing an extra battery so that you have a reasonable amount of flying time. The extra battery fits fine into the original box, without requiring a large carrying case.

I decided to go with this one because I was already familiar with the Parrot flight software and I never had a single problem with my Bebop.
To cut right to the chase, I took it out on my first flight and something broke. As you can see in the video, I was taking off and then the gimbel/camera started bouncing. I immediately landed and upon inspection, nothing seemed broken or off. I tried to re-calibrate the camera, but was not having any luck.
As soon as I got home, I printed off the official troubleshooting guide from Parrot and got to work. I did everything they suggested, but nothing worked. I tried another short backyard flight, but the problem was not solved.
I will be returning and getting a Mavic Pro 2.
