I added this device to my home entertainment center because most of my devices now have network connections, so I needed a switch to add to my gigabit network in the house.My connected equipment: HTPC Samsung 55" smart TV XBox 360 Nintendo Wii (wireless)I like the prioritization options that are included in the switch (my HTPC is the highest priority in the entertainment center).The device is very easy to integrate into the network, and everything works perfectly on my wired network. (Wired is still much better than wireless, as I am streaming video over my home network).

Bought this hub to extend my wired network to all my home entertainment equipment (TV, receiver & Blue-ray). Works perfectly and saved $$$ vs wireless adapters for each. Also maxed bandwidth with wired connections.

I have the Netgear Giga Bit dual band wifi router. That is an amazing piece of technology. I know, I build routers / networks for a living.That said, for video / internet TV applications, I find that a wired connecting is the best way to go. I have several sling catchers, sling box, several bluray players, etc... the wired connection that is delivered with these netgear home theater kits is amazing -- it delievrs a solid 40M-60M to each outlet that has the black box.My network looks like this -- i have one of the "white" boxes connecting to the router, and plugged into the wall. In my bedroom, study, family room, and exercise room I have one of the "black 4-port boxes." We are delivering 40-60M to each black box. The video looks amazing. You tube works great. Sling box and sling catchers are delivering perfect video through-out my home, pandora is perfectly streaming. I even have an Onkyo stereo and Wii on this network, everything is running amazingly fast.Set was easy. plug it in, and it works. It came with an installation disk so that I can name each of the boxes, and monitor status. Cool feature, but optional.I am thoroughly impressed with Netgear.

Very easy to use and setup. Connects my blu ray, Xbox and tv beautifully. However it messes up my cable box(Uverse) when I connect it. No big deal though I don't really need that connected. For the price I would recommend this to anyone looking to simply connect all of your devices.

After 2 months quit working. Gets very warm and probably burned out. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone else.

I was running out of LAN ports from my router as most audio video gadgets are going network capable. I connected it to my Netgear WNDR3700 and connected the gaming hub to my Tivo, Xbox 360 and Home Theater PC. I still have room for expansion and absolutely would buy again.

We've had this switch for about 2 years now. We have a Netgear WNDR3700 router with a gigabit wired connection wired to the switch. The switch is connected to a Dish 722K satellite box, 3D Blu-ray, Roku 2 XS and Onkyo 708 receiver. Having the gigabit connection, the Roku produces HD quality on every station we watch that has it. Netflix is crystal clear and perfect, never had a problem at all. Our Blu-ray player also has a number of stations that the Roku doesn't, so we can watch all of those crystal clear also. Plus, our satellite box now updates in about 5 minutes which used to take 20 to 30 minutes with our old regular 10/100 switch.

I got this in order to prioritize my Xbox's connection over my wireless devices' connections because they seemed to rob the bandwidth. Now I can play Call of Duty on a 4-bar connection.

Very simple and straight forward. I am using this along with the Wii USB LAN adapter and an AT&T 2wire DSL modem in order to use Netflix. The only thing I had to provide was the password for the 2Wire which was obtained from their site. Work's like a champ.

Take it out of the box, connect it to the AVR, Blu-Ray, Wii and then connect it to the 75ft Cat5e cable to the Router, apply power and was up and running. How much easier could it be?

Product is solid. Documentation is unclear if all 5 ports are gigabit. That is reason for 4 stars. The way it is labeled makes one think that the green ports are gigabit and the amber are fast Ethernet. Works well, no issues. Streaming movies no issues. Satisfied.

I used this to connect to my router using CAT 5e. I split the cable signal between my TV for Skype, Netflix, etc. along with my Home Receiver for Pandora and its built-in Windows 7 Play-to features. The Netflix app rates the connection at near HD quality. Skype and streaming audio and video work like a dream.

I bought a pair of these three years ago and they both worked flawlessly until about three days ago. Once it was clear that one of the units was dying, I touched base with Netgear to see about a replacement.And they essentially told me to piss off since it's out of warranty.So now I have to spend at least $40 for a new unit to get my network back up and running. Obviously, I'll be spending the extra $10 and doing what I should have done in the first place - BUYING THE LINKSYS VERSION.Only buy this product if you don't mind your purchase having a built-in expiration date.

My switch, model GS605 V2, stops working periodically, effectively disconnecting my computers from the network. The computer says "network cable unplugged", or sometimes the network just stops responding.If I pull the plug, wait, plug it back in, everything is fine again, for awhile. I don't have to do this with my other switches: normally they work fine for several months, rarely hanging when there is a lightning storm, in which case power-cycling is the solution.Often the network comes back on by itself after some time. Sometimes it comes and goes - computer says network cable is unplugged, then it goes online again, and repeats, sometimes frequently.And then other times it works fine for a month or two. No obvious pattern here.I suspect, but have not confirmed, that occasional very long delays in Web site response may in fact be a temporary hangup from this device.I am pretty sure that the problem is with the switch, since power-cycling it solves the problem. Also, the computers are high quality; the cables are CAT-6 and very short.At least three reviews posted here mention a problem with overheating that otherwise has the same symptoms as I have. These folks were more generous, giving the unit 2- and 3-star ratings.I noticed that another model of Netgear switch has exactly the same problem I have, and is reported by many people. Thus, when I replace this unit, it will be a different brand.A switch is a switch, except when it does not work reliably.

We just upgraded the wiring to Cat6 in my office. I purchased 2 GS605s and one GS608 for some end point distribution. Everything went ok on the GS608 - except for a combination printer/fax/copier we have. The people we lease from said that that happens sometimes with their copiers and gave us a Linksys gigabit switch to use - just for the printer. Worked fine. Then when I tried to bring up the other half of the office using one of the GS605 units I kept getting wired problems... printer\copier\scanner (same model as before) connected at 10mbs on the scanner but would not connect for the printer. One user I could not connect at gigabit speeds so I replaced the cable ends - 2 times. Well the lease company came in and again, gave us a Linksys gigabit switch and I tried plugging that in instead of the Netgear unit... everything came up- printer\copier\fax\scanner, the user I replaced end on was at gigabit speeds and the unit is running fine - with very little heat coming off of it unlike the Netgear that was almost hot while it was installed...In the past I usually used Linksys and I guess I will continue to use Linksys...

I don't know exactly how switches work internally, but it "IS" a Gigabit switch I paid for. Unbelievable Value.

The system worked out of the box allowing me to quickly link up additional devices in an in-home office which had a single network connection. Haven't measured simultaneous throughput to multiple computers yet, but from simple observation connectivity seems transparent. Should allow for movement to gigabit switching in the future as well.

I just purchased this switch for a home network just hoping to solve some router issues. I ordered it from work so I could not recall if my 3 year old Dells would do Gigabit or not.Sure enough they did and this thing just works like a champ and no fan noise like some competetive brands. The transfer speeds are exceptional.The manual completely left out the meaning of the LED colors. A quick web search answered the question. Green - 1000 Yellow - 10/100

opened from the box, plug in the power, then the cat-5e cables from 4 computers I have at home... blink~ 1.0Gbps connection~never need to restart, and slick outlook.slightly hot, but not a problem.

I bought one of these units several months ago because I was constantly moving 500MB to 6GB MPG files between several of my regular computers and my DVRs and moving files this large takes quite a while at 100Mb. I hoped Gb speeds would help a lot. I did some timing and I was able to obtain about 3x shorter transfer times on my local LAN with everything connected to the Gb switch. My problem was that my house was already wired with CAT 5 cable and Gb ethernet really requires CAT 5e cable to get consistent speed. With my CAT 5 cabling, the speed was very intermittent--one time much faster and not the next.I know this review should be about this product itself and so I'll say it's a fine product and I'll probably buy another one when I finally decide to re-wire my house. But inexpensive unmanaged switches like this are commodity products and this one is not a whole lot different than any other so I just buy whatever is cheapest.Just make sure you have CAT 5e or CAT 6 cabling before going to Gigabit and expecting Gigabit speed.

After doing some preliminary research online, I was excited about the possibility of boosting my network to gigabit speed. I bought the Netgear GS605 switch along with Advantik gigabit network cards. After installing and connecting everything with CAT5e cabling, I was somewhat disappointed, not being able to attain the speed I had hoped for. It does seem that the gigabit leg of my network runs a little faster, but I still get some lag while streaming video via remote desktop from another computer, and the indicator lights on my switch show that my network is only running at 100 mbs. I plan to run a crossover cable between 2 computers with the Advantik NICs installed to see if the switch or some other component is the limiting factor. Depending on your hardware setup, it might not be worthwhile to upgrade your network.

In a time where the choice of cheap 5-port, desktop, GigE switches is plentiful, this one stands out for one simple reason: exterior design. It looks good enough to show off anywhere, and the vertical stand is a great desk-space-saver, something that becomes handier every day.The only case where you wouln't buy this model would be if you need Jumbo Frame support -- but that's something 99% of people with a SOHO setup can't even use (because your standard router for Internet access won-t support it...). So why bother?Definitely my favorite in this price range and feature set. Highly recommended.
