I have only had this for a few days so I can't speak about longevity obviously, but my impressions of it's quality other than that are AWESOME! I don't play FPS on my computer, but I do game a bit and it works great for that, but I bought this for photography and in that it excels! The picture and colors were really good out of the box, but I did calibrate it with my Spyder3Pro and prints are coming out EXACTLY as they appear on screen. I am very pleased.EDIT:I have had this for a year now, still have the same opinion. Works GREAT, looks GREAT, couldn't be happier!

Pros: - No dead pixels- Bright vivid colors- Ergonomic- Huge resolution (1920 x 1200)- Easy to use OSD- Lots of inputsCons: - Back light bleeding aka "glow"- Cable management system on the back sucks- Bezel is not really flush with the LCD in the right bottom corner, standby LED light "bleeds" through the gap (noticeable only when monitor is turned off)- Standby LED too bright but can be turned off from the OSD menuOther Thoughts: I hope to keep this monitor long enough to make worth the $550. So far I'm pleased but there's always room for improvement.

I went through 2 monitors before I received one without the color shift issue. If you go through HP support they will replace it as many times as you need but be aware it will be a refurb. Note: Dell sells a similar panel with the same issue but Dell will NOT replace your panel due to the color shift issue like HP will. I seriously considered giving up on this monitor until I received the one I have now which has no color shift issue. I think it is worth trying to get a good unit because there are few no options unless you look at $1000+ monitors like the NEC's or Eizo's. After calibration this monitor puts my macbook pro display to shame. It looks amazing.

Please do not buy this w2408h, because after a few months of use, the quickview menu will keep popping up,and changing settings between the movie, photo, gaming, text, and custom views without warning. I did some research and found that many people are also having this problem, and HP will not issue a replacement. To resolve this issue, you must break the plastic behind the menu buttons and cut a few wires.

Seller said item was "Like new, literally just taken out of box and received as a gift". But shipped HP Monitor with no power cord, no video or audio cables, and no CD software and did not supply these items when they were requested. Only answered my first e-mail and no subsequent emails. I had to file a claim against this seller and the only choice I was offered was to return it at my expense. Since the cost of shipping & insurance was almost the same as spending the money to buy the missing items I chose to keep the monitor and buy the items. I believe the seller was dishonest in not disclosing that sale was only for the monitor, while saying it was "like new, literally just taken out of the box". I would not trust this seller.

I recently did some much needed upgrades for my home office and this by far my favorite. I first saw it in Best Buy, came home to check for online reviews and to see if I could find it cheaper...I did at Amazon! It's VERY easy to set up and is crystal clear. ( I mean, razor sharp -- no stretched or blurred look anywhere!) However, there was something not quite right with the colors (especially greens) that really bothered me. PLUS the HP "My Display" software that goes with it that contains all of the drivers etc, is not fully functional on non HP machines. (meaning no calibration was available for color or contrast beyond what's built into the monitor itself which was never enough to fix my problem) I was so frustrated and disappointed. (I had been warned of this on another site but thought I'd take a gamble) Well, after trying to hook it up via the HDMI (from VGA) cable that came with it to a new $150 video card -- the colors were still way off and now the screen was all jumpy from that stupid card...(that went right back!) Then, I noticed something when I right clicked on my desktop to adjust my display settings (in XP pro) there was a selection (that had been there all along...duh) that said NVIDIA Control Panel (my internal graphics card) and I was able to calibrate the colors and adjust everything else there and now everything's hunky dory! When it first boots up, the colors look a little neon-ish again but within seconds it goes to the profile I created from my graphics card software. I am sure many would have figured it out sooner than I did, I just wanted to prevent anyone else from beating their head against the wall for a week like I did if I could. (BTW, I have completely removed the video card that I bought and it's hooked up via VGA and it is still crisp and clear)**BTW, even though the My Display software is largely useless for me, I left it there. For some reason when I uninstalled it, the light that's under the transparent power button on the top of the monitor goes away. That was the only noticeable change after uninstalling it but it annoyed me, so I reinstalled it and it's back on and I just ignore the software**My husband and I publish a local magazine that is glossy and full color and I am able to do so much more with this monitor than I could before. I can view two (sometimes 3) projects side by side if need be...I love that! And typing an email in outlook looks like it's in about a 60 font! And programs like Illustrator where you need a lot of workspace it's invaluable. I never have to scroll around to grab or view something. My last monitor was a 19" Sony flat panel (that cost more than TWICE what this one did 4 years ago) and I thought it was just fine but once I plugged this lil beauty in I quickly passed it on to my son for his computer. I haven't needed to use the portrait position of the screen so I haven't even tried it. But it came that way when it arrived and was very easy to swivel back around. One bad thing...don't count on ditching your speakers for the ones that come with this one -- man do they stink! I swear my laptop has better speakers. But it's sort of like people griping that their cell phone camera doesn't take good enough pictures. If you want a good camera buy a camera! If you want a good monitor buy this one and just pretend the speakers aren't even there. The price is way worth it even without the speakers.

I was initially skeptical of this monitor because it was significantly cheaper than competing monitors from other companies. Considering the cheap price (For an IPS panel) I was afraid HP might have cut corners in design and build quality. However after reading some very positive reviews, I decided to buy it. I've had it for about 3 weeks now, and I am extremely happy with my purchase.Within minutes of receiving the box, I could tell that my fear of HP cutting corners was unfounded. It was packed well, separated into two parts (the screen and the stand), encased in Styrofoam supports, within a sturdy box. It would take some significant mishandling from the UPS grunts to damage it in transit. While it seemed to lack any manual beyond a "quick setup" guide & CD, HP included a nice selection of cables for its inputs, as well as a D-Sub to DVI converter. The monitor housing is well designed, feels solid, and includes a cable management system. The stand is very stable, allowing for a wide range of motion (including pivoting into portrait mode). The stand also offers enough resistance that you'll never accidentally move the monitor, without offering so much resistance that its hard to move when you want it to.It has a very nice selection of inputs; 2x DVI, DisplayPort, HDMI, as well as composite video, component video, and s-video ports. Theres also an SPDIF out, so you don't have to worry about losing audio quality if you run sound through the monitor with HDMI/DisplayPort. Not only that, but theres also a 6 port USB 2.0 Hub built in. While it lacks a D-Sub plugin, HP includes the aforementioned D-Sub to DVI adaptor in the box.The screen is an LG.Philips built IPS panel, which offers the expected superior color reproduction, response times, and viewing angles. It needs some calibration from the factory specs, but that is to be expected. My monitor had no dead or stuck pixels, and no obvious uniformity issues. All and all, you'll be hard pressed to find a better monitor without moving into the $1,000 USD price range. It is a good multipurpose monitor which is accurate enough for design work, is speedy enough for video games, has the plugins to connect just about any piece of home theater equipment directly to the monitor, and does it all without breaking a budget.

okay, those who do RAW images and are Photoshop snobs for perfect colors and hues, go spend some serious money (>$1K) on a professional, photo worthy monitor; those who want a great picture on a BIG screen for less than $500, then this one fits the bill. Background: I work in a large academic bioresearch lab with co-researchers coming in and out all day. When not stuck in a biocontainment hood or separating DNA or RNA from cells, I pretty much spend my work days in front of computers analyzing and graphing data, building plots, writing papers, checking emails, or loading my iPod. I decided to use only my new Thinkpad for all my work and get the desktop computer off my work area, but the 14inch screen just is too small for having lots of programs and figures and email, and plots up all at once. So I looked around, found this on Amazon (since I'm Amazon-prime... free shipping on a 24in monitor more than paid for the annual fees). Now I'm very happy, and co-workers are quite envious as they stare at their dim, puny 15" or 17" LCDs. THis display is nice and colors have good saturation, but most of all... lots of real estate to keep all my figures and plots on-screen. I'm sure an expert side-by-side comparison of this with a much more expensive monitor would show how the colors bleed in some text, but the black is very black, the colors are strong and bright, and for $450, I'm extremely pleased. The speakers of course are "tin"-ey sounding, but I didn't buy it to listen to music, I keep the volume down low on it, just enough to hear the "new email" bing-bong wave -- who needs Hi-Fi for that? And occasional You-Tube or news videos have crappy sound anyway. Set-up was simple and a no brainer -- plug-in, reset the resolution on video properties, you're done. If I'd wanted great sound, I'd have kept my big speakers (but they take up too much space). Don't buy this monitor if you also want a great sound from integrated speakers, as those two terms (great sound, integrated speakers), really don't go together in any setting (unless you're buying a home entertainment system for >$2K). All-in-all, I'm really am happy with the value here. 18 months ago, you couldn't touch a 24in monitor for less than a G, now under $500, that's deflation in a time of $4 gas. Plus at least HP is a US company (of course not made in US, but what consumer electronics are these days), so some $$ stay here in the US of A. Amazon prime, one-click buying, and free 2nd day delivery right to my desk made this as easy as it gets.Joel in Massachusetts

I purchased this monitor primarily to use in portrait mode; as it was one of the few that had a stand that supported rotation. Any monitor could be used in portrait obviously ... I'd thought about buying a wall mount or crafting some crazy system up on my desk.Anyway ... I need portrait because I'm a programmer and I have to wade through hundreds of lines of crappy code , functions that are billions of lines long ... you know, the kind of stuff that makes you want to cry. It's good to be able to see as "many lines of crap" on the screen at once in these situations. For me though, this monitor has failed. The color shifting and dark/bright is CRAZY. The right side of the screen is so much darker than the left. It gave me headaches. I gave up and put it back in regular landscape mode. The dark/light is still there, but it's not as bad or annoying. It also seemed "not as clear"in portrait mode. I know that doesn't make sense; but it's as though the shape of the pixels don't lend themselves to rendering text in the portrait mode.I wish I had spent the extra on the DELL ultrasharp which my employer picked up the tab for at work.for a home user this monitor is probably fine ... for a programmer ... it kinda sucks. One thing you need to be aware of if you go to the store to check this monitor out, is it APPEARS much more consistent from about 30 degrees above the monitor in landscape mode; which oddly is almost exactly the viewing angle a typical customer would be at when they walk by a display stand, still standing. Hmm, I'd almost think it was done on purpose a-la conspiracy style, but that wouldn't make sense because you are going to notice it the minute you get at eye level with it, and they would have expected to get blasted in the reviews.

This is by far the best monitor I have ever owned (and I have gone through plenty!).I was looking for a true 8-bit monitor, and this one is pretty much the cheapest of them all. From the ergonomics to the form factor to the matte screen, this is an excellent monitor for a Graphics pro or anyone serious about graphical design or photography. The stand is solid and the vibrancy of the colors is breathtaking. However, I did need to use a colorimeter calibrator to get the most out of the monitor. Also, it did take me a few weeks to get used to it.Pros:- Solid excellent quality stand.- Matte screen (shiny / glossy screens are awful for graphical work - too many reflections).- Large desktop - Photoshop work is awesome.- Ability to display near-complete AdobeRGB and sRGB colorspace. In general, just incredible color reproduction.- Numerous configuration and customization options.- Ability to turn off the LED on/standby light (though it does not remember the setting if it looses power).- A slew of video connectivity options.- Mini-hdmi cables included in the box.- No flaws or dead pixels at all.- Great viewing angle.Cons:- The control software doesn't even work on Vista x64 (of course it could be something wrong with my setup).- Requires a colorimeter to get the most out of it.- It takes time to get used to the way the screen is displayed (hard to describe) and to the sheer size of it.I would highly recommend this LCD to anyone looking for a true 8-bit monitor. If I had desktop space for a second one I would not hesitate for a second to get it.

I was setting up a home office and wanted to work off a large monitor so I could manage many documents at once AND I wanted a high quality monitor for photo editing. I am also a Mac user and after looking at the prices of Apple monitors I found i could get this one for 30% less and have the same visual experience.Out of the box this worked perfectly - its big, and bold so you need to adjust the color but that is quite easy. What HP doesn't tell you is that they supply one of every type cable you could ever need with this monitor in the box. HDMI, DVI, RGB, USB - I think there were 5 cables included which was great since I use 2 computers and they take different connections.Optically this monitor is excellent. There are 3 types of monitors TN - twisted nematic - the cheapest and the technology that Dell uses now), VA - vertical alignment which offers better viewing angles and color fidelity at the cost of speed, and IPS - in plane switching - the best available today that offers the widest viewing angle and the best color fidelity and are only slightly slower than TN panels. The HP (like the Apple monitors) are IPS and for the money the HP is the best value in IPS that you can buy. A full review of flat panel technologies is here: http://www.pchardwarehelp.com/guides/lcd-panel-types.php.This panel looks great, the high resolution is excellent and with stand makes it so I can position to panel so I reduce neck strain. The only issue I have is that there are no Apple specific drivers, but my MacBook Pro recognized the panel and I can use my calibration tool to fine tune the picture.

i bought this product from amazon on 01/25/2008, and it stopped working today, on 04/20/2009. power just turned off, and will not turn back on. tried different cables, it must be an internal power supply problem.1 yr warranty expired, so i'm left with a huge monitor that doesn't work. while i had it, it was great. but just letting everyone out there know that some of these might not last right after one year. get the extra warranty whatever it is.an overseas tech working for hp told me its rare but there was nothing they can do since the warranty expired. and you can't get angry at these guys, they're just doing their job. its basically hp telling me, "f you consumer, you got unlucky."well, that does it for me. lifetime ban on hp products. but i'll have to buy from some other corporation. so everyone, good luck in dealing with these thieving corporations who don't even have to deal with their customers' problems since they outsource the work and tech support overseas and make faulty products that barely outlive their warranties, all to increase their executives' paychecks.

Top notch performance, even more so when calibrated. Webpages are rendered better w/color management sensitive software, inc Firefox 3. Buy from someone who will take a return, because if it isn't great, it isn't right.Wonderful color, accurate, detailed, great depth and contrast, wide viewing angle w/little shift, excellent build, very flexible/adjustable stand, VESA mount, many input options (although the PIP function is limited). For those having text issues, the problem is likely with Windows Cleartype. This OS function (started in XP) takes advantage of the fact that one pixel is really made up of three sub-pixels. In an attempt to make text look smoother, Cleartype partially turns on the sub-pixels next to the ones that should be black to make up a character. Because this monitor is so responsive, you have to turn Cleartype way down, which actually sharpens the text image, and removes the perceived fuzziness. Using Microsoft's website [..]we found that setting 2 or 3 from the bottom eliminates the issue.

I bought this monitor about two months ago and could not be more pleased with its quality and screen size. Actually, I bought it after reading the user reviews on Amazon. I was nervous at first as I was migrating from a 19" Sony crt which weighed about seventy pounds, and it was time to buy an LCD.I initially looked at Dell and their new monitors, but due to the cost factor and user reviews, I ended up buying this HP. I couldn't believe how well this thing was wrapped and boxed. There were no "dead pixels" and I'm using the standard resolution from the factory. Also, since I built a new computer from scratch, my graphics card GeForce 9800 GTX, came with the adapter for DVI to HDMI, so it was not an issue. Also, this monitor comes with a standard VGA cord, but to get the correct clarity you'll need the DVI to HDMI adapter.I use AutoCAD and Chief Architect software as I design custom homes, so I was looking for a monitor that had extremely tight text and graphics quality. This monitor has not let me down.Take a look at other monitors like Samsung, Dell, and others and read user reviews before making the decision to buy. It's one of the most important decisions you'll make besides having a fast PC or Mac. Also see one of these monitors on display at Best Buy or other stores and judge for yourself. I couldn't be more happy with buying this excellent monitor. I works fabulous with pictures and Photoshop. I'm not a graphics designer so I can't speak for color correctness. There are other monitors that are three to five times more costly, but for the money, this HP 2408H will be very hard to beat.

I got this monitor because I wanted something better than TN but didn't want to go crazy with price. I think this is a very good unit for the price.I'm not quite as picky about the colors as some people and I think this monitor looks good. I had to decrease the brightness quite a but. Since this is a wide gamut display it tends to blow out some colors but like I said I'm not too picky about that, some may like it. I used a Spyder 3 Pro do do color calibration.I play games like Quake Live, Left 4 Dead, COD4, Fallout 3, etc. and whatever lag it has I don't notice. Due to the type of polarizer on the screen if you look at the screen from extreme angles you will see a glow around things which isn't a big deal if you are in front of the screen. The little touches are nice. HP includes pretty much every cable you would need for connecting a PC. It comes with DVI, HDMI, Dislay Port, VGA, and USB cables. The stand is removable and is very adjustable. The 6 (2 side 4 back) USB ports are also useful. You can turn off the power LED in the settings menu.My only real complaint is that I have a dead pixel. It is on the side of the screen and isn't really noticeable so I can live with it but it's still a bummer.

I'm a web designer and I needed a monitor that was easy on the eye. This one is a dream. No headaches or eye strain.Prior to this I bought a 24inch NEC MultiSync LCD2470WVX. It had excellent build quality but it had a 6bit TN+ monitor that really hurt my eyes and gave me headaches. I defiantly couldn't have done a 12 hour day with that monitor. I sent it back after the first day and paid the restock fee.A nice thing about this monitor is the 178 degree viewing angle. My last 19inch LG monitor also had a 178 degree viewing angle and so I never thought it would be an issue. The NEC showed me that it is a big issue. With a 160 degree viewing angle you can see a colour fade even between the top and bottom of the screen.Out of the box the color calibration wasn't fantastic. In fact the NEC was much better out of the box. This could be to do with my graphics card or the ambient lighting conditions though. The IPS panel (which is made by LG) is excellent and you have complete control over the settings. So regardlessThe build quality is also fantastic. It's really solid and it tilts, swivels and goes up and down. The buttons are really crisp and it looks very attractive. Much more so in real life than it does in the little thumbnails you get on the website. If you are looking for a great monitor that you can work on all day without eye strain or migraines then I strongly recommend the LP2475WKind Regards,Adrian SmithLondon

I have had this monitor since Christmas and to me it just so vibrant in the colors and clarity.I matched my 24" inch monitor with an HP Elite 9000's desktop and they were married flawlessly. Each complemented the other as would be expected being they are often sold together. The monitor can be moved up and down to position as you like and can be turned sideways to provide protrait view if desired. It has full resolution providing more real estate and pixels to give you awesome detail and colors.I have no blur, no burns no issues with viewing angles. My computer is positioned near a window that gets bright afternoon sun. Definitely some glare as the monitor itself is a very glossy shiney black border around the screen that also attracts fingerprints as well, but easy to clean too. Simply putting the window shade down made it much better but even with it up as long as you are in front of it you'll see the screen very well.It has a 1000:1 contrast ratio which is superb for a monitor, however, I now see 3000:1 monitors in some stores but at double the price in many cases and they are geared to being a primary or secondary HDTV for many. This for me is only for my desktop and for me to do graphics work and just do tons of photo edits, viewing and the ability to do side by side work on photos and documentation. This monitor can be seen at most retailers, so go to the store and watch it along with the other 2 dozen 24" monitiors to compare to what you like best. I think everyone has a little bit different colors likes and dislikes. Remember this monitor has allot of calibration that can be done to change the colors, resolution to your specific liking.

This monitor has every connection you could desire, is just the right size, and is very adjustable (height, tilt, aspect, side to side). The picture quality is fantastic. I have used it with my work Dell D620, personal MacBook Pro, and my wife's MacBook Air. It interfaced with all of them easily. I used the X-rite Eye-One calibration tool to hone in the colors and tone down the brightness a bit. This monitor has a very large color gamut and can be quite bright. Off axis, the screen is still legible and colors don't shift. If you're wondering how big 1920x1200 is, it's easy to view PDF files at 100% with two pages showing. Same with reading word documents. The screen allows you to easily view and compare two files. I've seen monitors at 1/3 the price, but would buy this one again in a heartbeat.

Great value for the money, but I would look at competing products if you want this for a business/production environment.1- Off-axis viewing is not very good. Even if you are right in the center, both color cast and brightness throughout the screen are uneven.2- The mounting and pivot mechanics are marginal at best. You will have to tilt and finagle the monitor as you pivot if you don't want to bump the table/stand with the corner of the monitor. And, it is not exactly a fluid, quality movement. You won't want to do it throughout the day unless you buy a separate, wall-mount pivot.3- Make sure you buy a third-party cable unless you have an HDMI output on your video card (few computers do). Amazon sells a few. I hear the image is much better with a DVI-HDMI cable (or straight HDMI) ... but, I'm using VGA since my cable was back-ordered. :-)4- The piano black bezel may look good in the showroom, but it quickly gets fingerprinted-up. Felix Unger would probably wipe off the black by the third day of ownership.5- The speakers are so bad, I think they should have used the production $ to add a DVI connector and a matte finish.ALL THIS SAID, for a home user or cash-tight small business, it's a lot of screen for a very reasonable price - and the pivot is a great feature, especially if you do large spreadsheets.I'm a little concerned with how many 'refurbished' units are flooding E-Bay and Amazon ... we'll have to see about reliability. (I've never seen so many rebuilds of one brand or model.)

This is an IPS-tech monitor which makes it MUCH better than the TN-tech monitors sold at your local Best Buy.BUT, as mentioned by other reviewers, (1) there is a slight green-to-magenta slide in color from left to right when viewed with lots of white stuff on screen, and (2) when the screen is black, you can see the uneven lighting at the corners. I don't know if these flaws are HP's problem, or a tech flaw of all IPS-tech monitors.Anyway, the height/tilt adjustment was a big plus for me, plus plenty of inputs to choose from. I bought this monitor for gaming, so I will give it 3-stars until something better comes along.

I work as a graphic designer and recently purchased two of these monitors for my Mac Pro at work. I was conflicted on whether to give these a try or buy the 24" Dell UltraSharp displays, since I had previous experience with that model. But after having some technical issues with the Dells, I thought I'd give HP a shot. When I first got the monitors, I had to use a DVI to VGA adapter while I waited for my DVI to HDMI adapters (about $15/piece) to arrive and during that time I was quite disappointed. The text was blurry and it had some significant ghosting issues where there would be a white "shadow" of every hard line displayed. I decided to wait until I got the HDMI adapter before I decided whether or not to return them.Once I received the DVI to HDMI adapters (DVI and HDMI are exactly the same technology, just different connectors) I was pleasantly surprised. Not only were all the ghosting and blur issues fixed, the display overall looked better than I ever anticipated. The specs may or may not be up to the UltraSharp line, but to my eye these monitors beat the UltraSharps hands down. One caveat is how the amazing picture is achieved. It seems the display may be over-saturating the colors. I've noticed significant saturation just in the OS X interface. For screen-to-print calibration, it's not the best choice, but as long as you keep in mind that what you're seeing on screen is much more colorful than what will print, you'll be fine. Despite the fact that it is a hyper-realistic image, it's worth the "wow" you'll say every time you boot up.Just make sure you keep it all digital. DVI to VGA looks HORRIBLE.

Size is impressive, and the coated screen (glossy) is gorgeous and makes the colors pop, but that's where the good news ends.Downright inexcusably poor light distribution, bad light leakage from bottom and sides, dead pixels and embarrassingly bad ghosting of dark text on white (yes, using a digital connection). The HDMI connection is nice, incidentally, but the absence of a DVI input is bizarre and inconvenient (add about $30 to your cost for the converter cable you'll need).Probably an acceptable unit for use as a TV or gaming monitor, but utterly unacceptable for any serious computer work.
