Most commentaries in these forums are the customers who had bad experiences. I have had this printer since they came out about 10 years ago and other than replacing the separation pads and rollers once before this printer has been rock solid. The toners is what sets the printer apart. It is on auction sites or online very affordable to run this printer. Most toner purchases online you can get 3000 or so prints for about 30 dollars on a toner. Craigs too will show up these toners for cheap. By far the most economical printer I've owned. What I like about this printer is that it burns the toner into the page well and doesn't smear on thicker stock of paper or labels, something I've seen happen with the newer models. It is a top scan feed and it's somewhat stylish for a printer. Overall I've been happy with it and those who have them know these printers were well built and do a great job. The only drawback I see in today's pc market is that hp suite of programs for the printer do not work on the newer window versions. It will in windows 7 show up as a scanner and do a fine job, it's just all the other bells and whistles years ago that are now missing in today's operating systems. Just another reminder how these mfr's try to force the consumer to upgrade their equipment.

For all the negative reviews - You're missing the benefit of this amazingly economical machine.The benefit of this machine is one of the lowest per page print costs out there.I've used my 3200 for over a decade, and have never needed anything but graphite cartridges and cords now and then. I estimate I've printed anywhere from 150k to 250k pages of paper off of this printer, and mine is still going strong. Unless you're made of money for ink replacements, you want to avoid ink and stay with graphite prints. I've got reserve 3200's around, so that I never go without this invaluable machine. In my personal business, I have to print pages, sometimes sets of 100+ at a time, every few days. I've had other printers that came and went, while the Laserjet 3200 Series is the CHAMP for those who consistently need volume b&w print jobs at the lowest price possible.If you'd like to pay more for liquid ink, do not buy this product. Use newer items for fax and scan. The ink on my newer OfficeJet Pro is long gone, so I use that to scan and fax, but still keep the 3200 next to it, so I can always have the ability to print without paying a fortune. Each cartridge from OfficeDepot prints me out anywhere from 1500 to 2500 pages before needing replacement, at about $70 a cartridge. You can also just recharge your cartridge with graphite packs if you know how to do that.

i love this printer so much that i order this one from amazon when the original failed after 4years of printing all my checks, and other print job for my accounting department. prints envelope, checks, and many other printer jobs. I print about 20pages a day. it's share they don't make this anymore. I bought used and broken ones from else where and replace the parts to make it work forver! lol

Outstanding all-in-one machine and simple operation. I have always used HP basic laserjets models since 2001. Very reliable workhorse. This more multi-tasking model was not different. Printing is crisp and clean and fast (for my purposes). Faxing also was as simple as load the software and connect, I faxed my first fax within one minute of installation and before reading any instructions. Really impressive. It worked flawlessly since the first time I used it.However, I was not impressed with the scanning feature, it scans slowly and into an image rather than a pdf. But really scanning is not why I go it. For scanning I use Fujitsu's ScanSnap S1300, excellent little -yet- powerful scanner.I am sorry to hear the many bad experiences shared by people with HP 3200 including the hardware and software problems; I experienced none of the sort.

I have been using this HP 3200 printer for 6 years now. It has printed 80,000 sheets of paper. It has a reliable fax (never had a problem one). I highly recommend this item. I cannot figure all those negative reviews. This has been the most carefree electronic product I have used in many years. Go figure!

I don't know if it's the printer or bugs in the driver, but I waste more paper in effort to get a letter quality document without a bunch of ASCII characters in the footer. I wish I had my old Xerox Docuprint back. It's so frustrating; I can't wait to replace it. HP -- If you are reading this, why don't you offer your "valued customers" a pathway out of this bum product????

I have owned this printer/fax/scanner/copier for just under two years. Today, the fax finally wouldn't work anymore. I have always had problems with the fax not being reliable, just like other people have stated in other reviews. I would have to keep unplugging the unit. I am glad I bought the extended warrenty on it. I took it back to the store today. I'm waiting to see what they'll replace it with. It's a good thing HP doesn't sell this printer anymore. I liked the printer part, it scanned well, and copied well also. I run my own construction business and needed a reliable FAX. Very Disappointing, at least it'll be replaced. I'm glad to hear that other people experience the same exact problems I did.

I have over 100 of these printers that I am responsible for maintaining. They are constantly failing. They have a defective memory chip that HP just can't get right. They have "upgraded" it about 4 times and they won't even sell replacements now because they are still "evaluating" the latest version. If you buy this product you are almost guaranteed to have long periods of downtime.They are also extremely fragile. Trying to pack these well enough to ship through common carriers is an exercise in futility. The slightest bump can rip the front assembly right off the unit.

HP states that this machine will work with one phone line. I beg to differ. It repeatedly picks up the line to receive a fax when I'm on the phone with people. Also, it does not pick up reliably when a fax is coming. The scanning is inferior, and displays lines on the images...Won't be buying HP any time soon.

HP printers in general have been very good. I have purchased 4 HP laser or inkjet printers in the past; therefore, I decided to buy the 3200 laserjet. What a big mistake!!! This printer combo is not reliable and definitely not worth the money. The print quality is what you expect from HP but the other features on this printer makes this a product to avoid.I have experienced the following:1. constant paper jams when trying to scan multiple pages2. Fatal system errors very frequently( they happen at random moments that you need to power down the printer)3. FAX feature is just terrible4. Sending a fax may result in the printer hanging5. Receieve faxes is unrealiable.. the printer doesn't pick up the rings. You would need to unplug the printer then replug it before it will restart picking up faxes again!?!In conclusion, this printer has caused more headaches than value. Do not buy it unless you enjoy pain. After this printer, HP brand loyality is definitely out of the question. What happened to HP quality?????? I wish i can give this printer a zero rating!

His response to my claim that "the missing two (2) missing media supports and one support extension" were not to be included with the HP3200 package.He was WRONG. I attached photocopy from the HP3200 manual showing such devices listed in Chapter 1, page 14.The seller never responded again!Tom

From the specifications and HP's reputation, this sounded like a wonderful machine - Combine many functions and save space. However, after 3 software upgrades, 3 hardware replacements, an entire machine replacement, 2 operating system reinstalls, and ~50 hours on the phone, I would actively discourage anyone from buying this. HP's final solution was to simply buy it back from me after acknowledging it had serious problems. The software never worked and caused many other computer problems, the fax never reliably worked, and the machine would often disconnect the phone about 3 seconds after someone called. I am about to replace it with a Brother 9200.

I was a huge HP fan. I first got this device and it worked fine. Recommended it to my mom. After 2 months the paper kept jamming or it would pull 20 sheets at a time. I'm not as eloquent as wasted away in 3200ville, but I wanted to let people know my experience. I'm going to try the brother. I have read a lot of these reviews and have based many buying decisions on them.
