To put it mildly, this thing sucks.Some have commented that the cartridges are cheap. There's a reason for that - they hardly hold any ink. I just finished printing about a hundred pages of text on fast-draft from a new black & white cartridge, and it's nearly empty. I would hardly call $15 for 100 - 150 pages printed on fast-draft "cheap"! And neither would I call the color cartridge I bought that wouldn't function after two weeks of non-use "cheap" either.(*UPDATED*)I've since found that if I let the color cartridge sit for just a few days without use, it clogs up and requires intensive cleaning to get it working again. Of course, intensive cleaning means wasting a good quantity of ink. And to clean the color cartridge, you have to clean the black cartridge at the same time, so good ink gets wasted for nothing.HP used to make good printers, INCLUDING cheap printers. So, I'll never believe this thing is a "value" at the price. I don't need fancy features; I just need it to work and not rip me off.(*UPDATED*)And when I said I had just finished printing a hundred pages, it wasn't a simple matter of just printing the pages, by any stretch. Instead, it was a matter of printing some, pulling out the stack of paper it tried to pull through at once, clearing the print queue, unplugging the printer, waiting, plugging it back in and turning it on, seeing if Windows detected it, and then either managing to get a bit more printed or unplugging the printer and plugging it in again. All of this to print just a hundred pages!Beyond that, the output tray is so screwy that you have to watch it like a hawk, especially on fast-draft, or you'll have even more jams. This is because the papers get thrown out but not clear and not stacked neat, so some will go over the top of the previous page, or under the previous page, or just catch on the previous page and cause a chain reaction and cause the thing to jam. Or if that doesn't happen, it will get pulled back in by the input, and cause a jam that way.So, I'd have to say this thing has no redeemable qualities, INCLUDING THE PRICE. It's just a way to sink into your jugular to drain you on ink costs. "Getting what you paid for" should NOT mean "Getting bent over." or "Be happy with garbage because it was cheap."

I've never taken the time to write a review of a product before but I am so sick of this printer I had to vent. The paper feed tries to grab all the paper in the paper tray EVERY TIME I try to print. Yes, I separate the sheets of paper and make sure they aren't sticking together. I have to print one sheet of paper at a time. Once I get over that hurdle, I have to pray the cradle won't get stuck or one of the ink cartridges won't fall off the cradle. As already mentioned, it goes through ink incredibly quickly. I've gone through several printers and this is the WORST!

This is another good printer for under $90, but they all seem to have their tradeoffs. I've been using Epsons for years now, and Epsons tend to have much better quality than I've experienced from the HP so far. (Possibly because Epsons go up to 5760 DPI).Like so many other reviews:1. This printer has very small cartridges and they seem to empty fast on the smallest printing jobs.Not mentioned in other reviews:2. This is one noisy printer!!! Just make sure this printer is used in an enviroment where noise is OK.3. The HP F380 has a paper tray on the bottom, not top feed. I keep bumping into it because I leave it open and it will not close while loaded with paper.4. The completed documents are returned to you right ON TOP OF the paper tray, and there has been more than one instance where what I just printed went back into the printer for a second trip - goodbye print-job, but worse, goodbye about another 1/8th of the ink cartridges.Some good news!!!5. Printing photos with the standard ink cartridges look VERY glossy on Premium Photo Paper. My Epson always left the same paper dull.Hope this helps. I'd invest more on a printer but they all seem to break down after 1 year, so I'm not going over the $100 mark yet.Did I mention that this printer eats ink.... it is a warning worth repeating...

My father and I bought this printer for my mother, who had been wanting an all-in-one for some time. The price was reasonable and the thing looked nice, plus it was HP, so we figured not much could go wrong.In terms of functionality, the thing works all right. The scanner is a one-touch deal, but scans (albeit quickly) at a very high contrast by default with scant options to tone it down. The printer prints well. Edges are sharp and the gradients are well-executed.But the paper feed is a nightmare. This isn't just limited to this particular printer--other recent HP printers I have used also experience the same thing. Basically, the printer picks up multiple sheets at a time, which usually results in a jam, several sheets of ruined paper, or both.A user shouldn't have to babysit their printer and make sure it doesn't try anything cute like pulling up 8 sheets of paper at a time to print a small photo, or jamming itself as it prints too fast and gets papers caught on the tray...but that's what you end up having to do with this printer. Cancelled printer jobs seem to render the printer unresponsive for an unknown amount of time as well.I would be hard-pressed to call this printer reliable. When it works, it works well. It's not really a walletbreaker in terms of price, but this and the other HP injets I have used in the past year have really been a disappointment.

i have had no end of trouble with this printer, and i did not pay 39.99 for it either.after almost a year of having only the printing function work i was able to resend it to hp. it worked a month but then had to put it in storage due to katrina. when i resurrected it, it only printed, again and then finally stopped doing that. have had it up and printing/scanning, not copying since august and yesterday, it just quit. i got a new cartrige but that was not the solution. heap of junk. totally unreliable. don't waste time or money of any kind on this one.

Ok so were to begin. This has got to be the biggest pile of wasted money I have ever spent. I have owned one of these for year now, using very sparingly. I would say I have only printed out about 50 images. Though the scanner works great, the printer itself is unresponsive most of the time, says it is out of paper when it is not, and the ink tray is always getting stuck. My opinion of this item is anyone who buys it after reading this review is just plain dumb. It is well worth the extra 50 bucks to buy something that acctually works. HP has done nothing but dig themselves deeper and deeper into my hate list. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH HP DEVICES!!!!

I hate this printer. It only worked for a week. When it did it was difficult to set up. It was very slow to print. Was NOT a copy machine as promised. I hate it. Now it doesn't even work. STAY AWAY!!

Just finished a print job, 400 pages, plus address labels. NO paper jams at all. my previous HP Deskjet would have jammed, especially with the labels. This printer prints beautifully, it is fast even with color. But HP now packages the ink in such tiny cartridges that you WILL run out quickly. Keep a cartridge on hand, but enjoy the speed and quality of this printer.

I got this free from HP with a computer. The printing and scanning functions are ok but definitely not as good as my Canon and Epson printers and scanners. It also uses ink quickly.

This would be an outstanding printer if it weren't for the fact that it uses the HP21 and HP22 cartridges. These cartridges only hold 5 mL of ink. So it will appear to be an ink hog, but the real problem is that the ink capacity of these cartridges is way too small. In contrast, the HP14 cartridge holds 26 mL of black ink. You would have to replace your HP21 cartridge 5 times to get the same amount of prints as someone who used an HP inkjet printer that uses the HP14 cartridge.Bottom line, this is a very good printer that you will end up buying a lot of replacement cartridges for. I can't recommend it for that reason alone.

I have a limited selection of printers here in Saudi Arabia. I picked this one up and got a good price. Setup was easy and I was printing in less than fifteen minutes. A couple of points:1. It has no Printer-computer USB cord. Get one yourself.2. I find the documentation lacking. I am of near-average intelligence, but exactly how to resume printing after loading more paper is still a mystery.3. I am using a black ink cartridge a week. They are fairly cheap, but too often I have had to replace a cartridge in mid-job.If the printer cartridges were bigger, I would recommend it. As is, I regret buying it.

Received on 7 June and find the Amazon price dropped $10 in the 6 days since ordering. No USB cable included so had to canabilize to connect for use. Not impressed with print compared to an Epson we also have and am concerned about ink costs based on reading reviews but plan to minimize use. That raises a concern for clogged heads from inactivity over lengthy periods of several days or weeks. I guess you get what you pay for (within $10 or so).

Don't even accept it as a freebie (as I did) unless you are prepared to pay $1.15 per sheet for color ink. That was my experience with the first color cartridge, which was fully consumed on a total of 20 sheets, 12 of which were heavy color, the others being mixed color and text or very light color. At $17.99 per color cartridge and $14.99 for black I calculate the outrageous, obscene $1.15 per sheet figure for ink. This is about six times greater than the average ink cost for my old HP720c, which unfortunately does not work with my new HP Pavilion PC (no printer port on this model, among other issues). I have vowed to not purchase any HP product in the future if I can possibly avoid it. I just ordered a Canon Pixima to replace this ink hog. On the positive side, the print quality is good, speed is excellent, and color fidelity is fair. The software installed without incident, and the machine is easy to operate, but the HP software is overbearing and constantly trying to sell you something--worse than daytime television.

This all in one came with my computer, and I rue the day that I didn't pay for an upgrade. At least twice a week I have to buy more ink cartridges.This is not a bargain; you will spend a fortune on ink.

Right out of the box, the HP F380 performs well. I made a color copy of a letter for my wife and aside from the paper stock, you could not tell which copy was the orginal. The scanner does well also, I use it to scan owners manuals and clean up old marks and damage. Given the performance, I would expect to pay more for this printer/scanner/copier. The ink cartridges for this HP are less expensive than my old Lexmark's cartridges on eBay, so that makes a big difference and was a good reason for buying this brand/printer.

I am not one to rant but this product was a major disappointment. Had it 8 months and treated it very well and was gentle with it and did not use it that much or abuse it in any way . One day it prints fine and the next day I get a "paper jam" error message. Aftrer 2 hours of tryingeverything on line with HP and calling the support number, all I got was a "out of warranty but you can get it repaired at one of our service centers". You get what you pay for - but never again with HP - N E V E R !!!

I wasn't sure at first if I would be totally satisfied with this purchase until I received and opened the box. I love how lightweight this all in one is.. I also loved the fact that I already have HP software because of my digital camera and it was easy to install. It now beautifully coincides with everything I use to work with. I would recommend this product to anyone who likes lightweight, efficient and space conservation products.

Purchased this printer in September of the year and quite pleased with all-in-one printer,copiers,scanner feature. It came out handy when needed.But to my surprise, after printing 30-35 pages in black & white it started giving me error that your B&W ink is running out. It was also reflecting the same in printout quality ! I called HP sales as well as technical dept , and they came back with answer (after 55mins) that "as inc cartridge came with the printer it would be off lower quality & life than the one purchased separately", they won't be able to do much in that.Though I am struggling to fight with HP as well as credit card company, there is less in my control. Just sharing with you to make sure you are aware about this fact while purchasing.

I bought my 3 in 1 hp printer from walmart, and I have to say that the printer is terrible. It constantly says the paper is jammed when it isn't. At times when I press prinit, nothing will happen. The scanner and the copier is ok, but the printer is terrible.

The scanner has no OCR, not a good indicator..Overall, the printer and scanner are decent, it's a cheap price, don't expect high quality. I ended up taking it back, I expected more from an HP, I think I will look elsewhere in the future..

This is an excellent 3-in-1 unit. Easy to set up, easy to use, with a small footprint and all of the standard printer/scanner/copier functions. Also, the ink cartridges (HP21 black/HP22 color) are VERY reasonably priced ($15-$18 each, v. $25-$30 for other printers I've owned), keeping cost of use down. For home use, and maybe even for light office use, this printer should serve well.

It was a mistake purchasing this printer in the first place. I should've listened to other reviewers complained about how the printer eats up so much ink. This printer looks cheaply made and prints even slowly than my 5 yr older inkjet printer, such a shame.I recently sold this printer and got a laser printer instead, I got the Brother HL-2070N and its great except it's loud when it prints and produce paper curls (but that's expected with most laser printers) and its only $102 from amazon.

I have had my HP F380 for 2 months now and can't stand it. Scanning and scanning software isn't very good, printing is slow, eats ink, paper jams often. I miss my Canon Pixma that I broke during a move. It was also under $100 and a MUCH better printer and scanner. They didn't have Canons at the store where I went shopping for a replacement. I wish I had just gone somewhere else instead of buying this thing.

I like HP printers because you get a new printer head with every cartridge you install. This printer is just fine for your normal printing and scanning needs. It's a little updated from my older HP and the software is more user friendly. The picture printing is nice and the speed of printing is great. Nice for a quick copy too. A ++ Would recommend this printer!
