I now have two lines of dead pixels. Don't know why. I use this as a second monitor and have it on maybe 30% or less of the time I am on. The monitor hasn't been hit, dropped, or anything. There is no reason for it to be having issues after less than 6 months. Wouldn't recommend. Removed 5 star rating to a 1 star.

Filed to get a replacement monitor with HP. They said they would send me a new monitor and then I could send in the old one. Get the box today and it is empty. They want me to send the monitor first and then MAYBE I will get a new one back. Or I'll just get my broken one sent back to me. This is not what the technician said. I even saved the transcript. This is honestly the last time I do business with HP. The guy on the phone couldn't even help me when I called.

With that caveat out of the way, here are some of the most noticeable Pros & Cons after using this monitor daily for the past two weeks:
PROS:
- The ‘Sharpness’ Image Control setting offers 7 preset adjustments available so you can tweak the clarity to your liking.
- The overall white color temperature can be adjusted to be cooler or warmer when tweaking the color settings.
- The bezels are really thin (about 5 mm) which does its frameless design justice!
- The adjustable ergonomic stand allows you to pivot the screen 90° (to the right) so you can use the screen vertically in portrait mode. This was the #1 reason I decided to buy this monitor.
- The power button is completely distinguishable from the rest of the menu control buttons (it has a different shape and is spaced further apart from the other buttons).
CONS:
- the colors are OK in my particular unit but they don’t pop nearly as much as similarly priced monitors (the cheaper Acer SB220Q bi outperforms it in this regard). The red tones seem to have a slightly higher bias over the rest of the color range making them appear a little more vibrant while the other colors are more neutral.
- Although you can tweak the RGB color balance, this monitor’s built-in settings do not let you make further adjustments to things like saturation, hue, bias, blacks, gamma, or even YMC balance levels.
The black levels are nothing to write home about. Although my unit didn't have much light bleeding, it still struggled to keep blacks dark when anything slightly brighter was on the screen despite adjustments.
- Although its spec sheet claims to have a 250 nits max brightness, the one I got seems to be noticeably darker than my other 250 nit monitors at 100% even with the contrast level also being maxed out at 100%.
- Noticeable ghosting (motion blur) when scrolling through webpages
- Overall image quality is subpar compared similarly priced and some cheaper monitors (I would highly recommend the ViewSonic VS2412-H as a much better alternative in this regard if you really need a stand that pivots)
- The 90° pivot can only be turned to the right side, putting the bottom bezel of the monitor between your main display when this monitor is on the right side of it.
- You can adjust the monitor up and down, tilt it back by 30°, and pivot it by 90° (to the right), but you can’t swivel it left or right without turning the entire base of the stand.
- Does not have any FreeSync (AMD) or G-Sync (Nvidia) support. This causes lower resolution graphics and images to have noticeable jagged sharpening and screen tearing effects.
The HP VH240a is ok for daily use if you just need something cheap to do some web browsing, view word documents, and other non-graphics intensive tasks on. For my particular uses, since I only bought this monitor to use vertically to view documents and social media pages and do some light coding on, it is good enough to get the job done in that regard. I would not recommend this monitor for casual gaming, watching movies, or doing any kind of image editing since the experience would be subpar and the color reproduction would be inadequate for any professional use. The main advantage of buying this monitor over comparably priced monitors is for the adjustable stand (although the ViewSonic VS2412-H is a much better direct alternative, in my opinion). If you don’t need the vertical pivot then there are better monitors in this price range that deliver a more impressive image quality (another recommendation would be the Philips 246E9QDSB which delivers a far superior image and color reproduction).

PROs: Pivot/swivel into Portrait orientation (my specific requirement); looks fairly decent, especially w/ the slim edges; screen is pretty nice for most home and business applications; built in speakers are useful if you have no other speaker or headphone solution.
CONs: The screen is decent enough, but with the 24" model I feel like any larger would start getting fuzzy for text/office use. The tinny speakers are only useful if you have NO other sound option, but nobody should really expect Bose quality from a $100 monitor. Wish it had DVI port along with HDMI and VGA.
It doesn't compare to even mid-range displays at the electronics stores, but for a fraction of the price these are great monitors for general home/office use. Maybe a 4 star product, but 5 stars based on outstanding value. If looking for an inexpensive monitor that can rotate to Portrait orientation, this is the right choice.

I plugged it into my watt meter and it uses only 9.7 watts, and the case stays very cool, especially compared to my older TN flat panel, which also had a fault of being too bright, even at the zero brightness setting. This monitor has a good range. I also believe 23.8" is the perfect size for desktop viewing, when you want to see everything well, but not have a wall of light in front of you. And, of course, the size and image are fine at this full HD resolution.
Not even one day of plastic smell or break-in odor, which has been a negative feature of pretty much every monitor I've had in the past. My current TV stunk for months. This monitor, no heat, no odor. It is beautifully designed.
Eventually, I will get a 4k monitor, but I've learned that it's better to wait, and prices come down a lot and they perfect making them. And getting a 4k monitor also would mean needing a computer with good graphics card which can handle it, and I don't need or want a super duper computer for a few years, or until I see how great the new version of flight simulator will be when it comes out in 2020.
Warning: If you plug this in, Windows 10 senses what model it is, but the driver doesn't take full effect until you restart your computer. This flickered and had motion blur on videos until I restarted the computer and then it worked fine. What a relief!
The thin matte black border is perfect, as it is non-reflective, and just enough edge to hold onto without touching the screen, while changing position of the monitor.

As to the monitor itself, it worked perfectly when I switched it on, instantly recognizing and connecting effortlessly with my mid-2012, 13" MacBook Pro (16MB, Catalina OS). The colors look great and the responsiveness is terrific. Hard to believe this quality today for basically a one hundred dollar bill. I wouldn't hesitate at all in recommending this display to anyone wanting to attach a wide-screen monitor to their laptop.

First, I like that these can rotate into portrait mode without purchasing additional stands, arms, etc. I do a lot of PDF viewing, document editing, and online research so the vertical panel setup is ideal for me. Are there other monitors that have better screen resolution? Yeah. But I’m not paying several hundred dollars for a monitor that I’m not playing games or watching movies on. I think some people are buying this particular monitor with the expectation that games and graphics editing will look just as good as a $400+ 4K monitor.
In sum, great value for the features, screen size, and resolution.

Plusses: 1) the monitor easily adjusts up and down (height from the desk) and pivots to your desired viewing angle. 2) gorgeous picture. I'm not a gamer so no comments on gaming suitability. 3) very attractive monitor 4) easy assembly
Minuses: 1) a biggie - the sound is terrible. Sounds like it's coming out of a tin can. And very low volume although I did finally figure out how to adjust it (see below). Even the cheapest computer speakers you can buy at wallieworld are a vast improvement. My advice is to forget about the built in speakers and buy some inexpensive computer speakers. Also, no volume adjustment on the monitor. The volume must be adjusted using the complicated monitor menus (see below). If you are going to purchase this monitor, do yourself a favor and buy a set of speakers at the same time. 2) Controls: there are 4 small unmarked buttons on the bottom back of the monitor (where you can't see them - you have to feel for them) for adjusting picture and sound. In frustration, I finally went to the HP web site and downloaded and printed the 26 page "User Guide" so I could figure out how to use the controls. Hint: you can adjust (sort of) the volume by using button #4 and then working through a couple of menus. The default volume on mine was set at 50%. Even setting to 100% didn't help much. Are you kidding us HP? Spend a minute fiddling with tiny unseen buttons and working our way through menus just to turn it up or down?
So, for the price, you won't go wrong with this monitor for picture quality and easy set up. Just remember to buy those computer speakers at the same time.

I like adjustable monitors because I am super short, and I like to push them ALL the way down to the surface of the desk. You are supposed to line up your eyes with the top of the monitor for the best ergonomics, and if you are a short lady with a standard-sized desk that might be the thing to do.
I have been gaming with it and I find it does well for that purpose (no FPS games, though - just Skyrim, etc. so if you aren't obsessed with getting a 2ms response time faster than the human eye can focus it is perfectly fine for all other games). This is my first IPS monitor and I think the colors are very nice. I also like the "night mode" that lets you give it a warm color so it won't mess up your sleep. I did notice some text items on my Windows 7 machine look fuzzy now, but others don't - I think maybe all my software isn't designed for 1080p resolutions, because which text looks fuzzy seems pretty random. Most of it is fine, though, and I expect it will get better with newer software.
I plan on buying another one in spite of the height issue because it still goes fairly low for a cheap monitor, and most of the fully-adjustable ones look like crap for gaming. It's quite good for a price of $110. The bezel is almost non-existent so I think it would be great side-by-side with another monitor (for when I'm working from home and need to have like 10 different windows open at once).
Now I just need to find a tiny ergonomic gaming keyboard with no number pad.

The monitor itself is very well built, you can turn it to use it in portrait mode or landscape mode. I've read reviews where customers have noted that it is really flimsy and breaks easily. When it comes to being flimsy, if I tap my desk, the monitor does shake. So the mount itself isn't durable. Someone else has mentioned accidentally elbowing the monitor which caused it to break, luckily nothing like that has happened to me.
When I purchased it, it had a really weird yellow tint at the top. This could just be due to the lighting in my room as both monitors have this issue, not sure it's been a really weird problem but barely noticeable.
If I had to recommend this monitor, I would. Even with it's flaws it's still a great monitor for the price.

Yes, the matte screen looks great and I like that you can raise it quite a ways on the stand if you like. The set up is super easy as well - took up of five minutes to get it up and running connected to my wife's laptop. And the price is great as well. Everything about it is fine (haven't tested the sound, which I've read isn't that great, but my wife doesn't need it for that) -
BUT!
It's not what they advertise it to be and that kills it because the one thing I purchased it for is the one thing it doesn't do. Bad form, HP, bad form.

There are speakers, which is great, but the sound quality is only eh. It sounds kind of echo-y compared to my Macbook Pro, but that's easily rectified with a set of bluetooth or wired speakers.
If you're mounting, please be aware the screws are already installed. I was devastated for about ten minutes, thinking it didn't have the VESA mounting spot after all. It does; just unscrew those four screws on the back, and add your plate! Good to go. :)
Overall, if you're looking for a great little monitor, this is it!!

Shipping was very quick and the monitors (I purchased 2) where packaged very securely for shipping.

That said, there are some great things. The adjustable height is awesome. It swivels flawlessly too. Great job on that HP. Very small bezels is also a great feature. Unfortunately, the plastic will just come right off if you put any pressure on it around the corners of the monitor, so avoid that. Base is solid but pretty big.
Edit: I've had this monitor for 2 weeks and today when I turned on my PC, I heard a 'pop' and the monitor was dead. Must've blown a capacitor or something. This is really sad seeing as it's so new and I originally purchased 3, returned 1, now i'm returning another. Hopefully the final one survives longer than that...
