Only been playing with the lens for a couple days but wow, it's a lot of fun. This is my first fully manual lens - it's very satisfying to manually control aperture. The photos and video footage (Sony a6300) look beautiful...the bokeh at f2 can be very interesting, what these lenses are known for. Amazing lens for so cheap! My only gripe is that it took longer to arrive from Ukraine than what was estimated. It went beyond the second estimated date when the first was missed. But this wasn't the seller's fault, I suspect something in the delivery chain. Seller was quick to respond to messages, and popped another lens in the mail when the first didn't arrive.

I'll preface this review by saying I'm a budding beginner hobbyist photographer, so that's the perspective you're getting. If you're looking for a deep-dive about this lens, there's quite a few photography sites that have more in-depth technical reviews and even user galleries for the helios. I'm also using this on a Sony A7III. There was an adapter that came with my order as well.

This lens is pretty well known for the bokeh it produces, which is a swirly, almost painterly-like effect. Some people (myself) love it and others might find it too busy or distracting. This is a manual lens, so that might be another turn-off. If you like shooting into the sun this also isn't for you because it's terrible in regards to that.

Overall, it's a fun little vintage lens that can be had for an absolute steal and I can't wait to get creative with it!

Oh my goooooodnesss. It arrived two days early and though ive only done one photoshoot so far, the helios has transformed my photos. I am so excited to use this all the time for my video projects and portraits. Paired with the Sony a6000 this lens takes photos i'd mistake for a 2-3000 dollar camera. GREAT lens the seller also included a little "love ukraine" glass pendant, an appreciated touch from the origin of these lenses. It could be easy to over expose pictures, but with a little correcting and better settings you can get amazing pictures. There is a slight blur on edges, but for the price it's still an amazing lens.

It's an old lens so—of course—it's used, but the product page described item as unused. Maybe, but it doesn't matter to me.
I wanted a Helios 44-2 2/58mm and got one in great condition. I was more worried about glass blemishes, haze or fungus when buying, but no worries there.
The lens came nicely protected with some documents in Russian which I used Google translate, caps, and a adapter to my camera e-mount.
Overall, recommended.

A side note, if you click new/used to check the various sellers at different prices, I'm reading some users had bad experiences. I purchased from lens_watch_nice_seller if that helps.

I didn't know this before I bought it, but the Helios I received was produced in the Valdai factory when they were making a lot of them. Mine doesn't have some of the problems that are associated with the Valdai production models, but it's something you can research more and maybe you can get one of the more rare production models. Of course, it will cost you more. Overall, I'm happy with this lens. There is no grease on the aperture blades that I can see (yet) and just a few quick shots around the house and it seems to make the nice swirly bokeh they are known for. I am still going to keep my eye out for one of the more rare models as well!.

Shipping was about 1 month and included a nice thank you note for the purchase. It shipped from Ukraine if I recall correctly. Overall, it feels very sturdy and I'm looking forward to using it more!

Like a lot of people, I like to dabble in older manual lens's. I read great reviews on this one so I gave it a shot. Took about a month to arrive, which was fine.
Overall the photos I get are pretty great, however this is almost too much of a hassle to bring out on my outing shoots because the process of screwing on the sony E mount on/off rubs paint off in bits and pieces. When I unscrew the cap it runs bits and pieces of paint off also. These bits and pieces of paint gets onto the lens.
So I need to clean the glass every single time I bring out this lens to shoot. It gets pretty frustrating.

Not sure if this is this specific lens I received, but this is unfortunate.

This is a fun manual lens. Very sharp and has pleasing bokeh. I've found it good for portraits and some macro work. It arrived from Russia on the last day of the estimated shipping period in good condition securely packaged with an E-mount adapter. Definitely good value for the money.

I was initially disappointed with the delivery time (6 weeks) from the vendor but it arrived about a week ahead of schedule. I got a certificate of authenticity written in Cyrillic: the lens was manufactured in 1983 but looked new. This lens is sharp, focuses well and has a great retro look to it. The bokeh is awesome. Very happy with this purchase.

Decent value for this vintage prime lens that came with the adaptor!!
I think the seller was:

I got it in about leas than two weeks coming from the Ukraine or Russia. It had a small little scratch on the front but it doesn’t impact the images or video. I think I paid less than $55 total. I’m pretty happy with it, thanks!

This lens is advertised as coming with the M42 to Sony E mount adapter, however I received a M42 to Micro 4/3 adapter instead. Not sure if this has happened to others, and it's easy enough to buy the correct adapter myself but it would be nice if everything came as advertised. At first glance the lens is in decent shape but hard to tell much without being able to mount it.

The lens arrived 20 days after ordering, neatly packed, and in great condition for its age. The glass is clean, smooth aperture and focus. It also included the original specs sheet and warranty from 1973 (not very useful but a nice touch), little personalized note, and an M42-Sony E mount adapter. It's a no-name adapter and doesn't seem as high-quality as branded ones but it works fine. The lens came with front and rear caps.

Overall this lens is a great addition to my collection. May not be the sharpest or the most sophisticated lens in the world, but it has unique character and legendary swirly bokeh. De-clicked aperture on this model (44-2) is also a plus especially for video. Later models don't have this feature.

Based on my experience, I definitely recommend this lens and this seller.

An absolute beast low budget lens! Works great on MFT mount and comes ready for Sony FE Mount. I currently use on my gh4 and it’s a beast portrait lens that is sharp as some of my more expensive glass!

The lens was shipped in a pretty good condition. Looks almost as a new one. Just few dust particles inside the lens but nothing effecting the picture. It came with Sony E-mount (NEX) adapter. The lens cap unfortunately doesn't fit. Got some good pictures and it has a great bokeh. Overall satisfied with this lens at that price.

This lens has a very specific, creamy look. I use it when filming people and the results are beautiful. I was a little hesitant when I saw that it shipped from the Ukraine but it came packed very securely, arrived when they said it would and had the adapter. I wish there were more focal lengths available.

Lens was just as described. Shoots wonderful pictures on both full frame and aps-c. Bokeh is amazing on full frame, shooting in the right focal distance and lighting. Highly recommend!!

It’s fast. It’s pretty sharp especially if edited a bit. The swirly bokeh can be artistic but also in certain shots barely noticeable. Great fast manual prime on a budget. Just buy it.
