Can you say "Don't forget to use all your new ink cartridges to TRY to clear the CLOG?" I now know Epson's customer service stinks. I give up on their less than stellar inks and going to say hello to a non-Epson printer. I am NOT the kind who wants to get out my tools and service this think like a roadside mechanic. Ain't happenin', I'm just sayin'.After belonging to the exceptional (seriously wonderful) Epson Yahoo group, I realized I was going to stop trying to save this printer. Maybe someone else is more "hands on".At the prices being asked on Amazon today (2/9/13) PLEASE think many, many times before purchasing this printer.Now,.... you're on your own.

*** Updated :) 1/26/12 ***Epson phone number: 562 - 276 - 7202 someone not in USIf everything prints blurry, it means that the print heads are clogged. To clean them, hold down the ink button for 3 seconds. If I remember, it seems to be pretty common for the ink heads to get clogged. If you buy this be prepared to clean ink heads every month or so.******************Hi folks. I read all the reviews for this printer and the large format Canon printer, and decided with this one back in October 2011. I truly believe now that this was a mistake. We've had three Epson printers, all of which had issues with ink and communication with the computer. Here are some of the problems:1. It shakes a lot and is very loud when printing. You can change this in the settings to "quiet mode," but on default it sounds like a Ninja when it starts up.2. It stops printing if you're low on ink. Not if you run out, but when you start to get low and you still have quarter of a tank left on one cartridge.3. It seems like to me that it runs out of ink after about 100 pages, I would certainly question the box.4. Has issues with recognizing ink. It's a fifteen minute process for it to tell you which ink needs to be replaced, and then another fifteen minutes for it to put the area into position so you can actually replace the ink, if it every goes there. Then, when you put a new cartridge in, it doesn't recognize it. Very very frustrating. The buttons don't always work.5. After 3 months it is now printing blurry about every 5 lines or so. Makes the documents unusable.Does anyone know the Epson number? Can't find it on their website. When it did work, which was for about a month or so, I was able to print 11x17 scores of music. It was great while it lasted.

It seems that as printer technology advances, printers get worse. The quality of my Workforce 1100 isn't nearly as good as previous Epson printers. The print quality on the 1100 is good, for a 4-color printer. It frequently makes snapping/banging noises, like something is breaking inside. Not sure what this is, but it's still working. The biggest disappointment is it's inability to print envelopes reliably. Plan to destroy 20% of your envelopes if you try it. One of my envelopes even got lost! I found it on the extreme right side of the printer, where the print head parks.Surely Epson can do better than this!

Epson is usually a very solid product, and this is no exception. I have owned this printer for 3 years without a problem. While indeed the ink is pricey, it does NOT run out too quickly. I am very grateful that Epson continues to provide good printers, and that, unlike Canon (I have had 2 Canon inkjets crap out on me very early indeed), they believe in being accessible to all operating systems, not just Windows.I recommend Epson highly, as a brand, and this Workforce specifically, for its usefulness across all platforms and for a very very long period of intensive use.

I have had several wide format printers and this is the most fickle printer I have ever had.Ink runs about $20 a tank and a head cleaning uses about 20% of the tank and you must clean all heads even though only 1 may be clogged. Thats about $17 each time you have to do a head clean!!! And most of the time the a single head clean doesn't work. You cannot remove or even access the heads to manually clean them. I have tried every method for cleaning them possible. Apparently these tiny fine print heads print great but plug easily..I've tried after market inks and they just don't work sometime they do but its always an ordeal.I seem to get about 20 full color photo prints out of a set of inks. That about $4.50 a page for full coverage photo printing. When it worked its great but the way it sucks ink and the print head clog issue makes me not recommend this printer.

I needed a large format printer after my old HP finally gave up the ghost after 10 years of use. Bought the Epson WorkForce 1100. Flat out, I will never purchase an Epson printer again. I almost think that this unit was created as part of some scam to consume ink. First off, the color is blah, but that was if it actually printed out anything that was halfway viewable. It can print ok, but only after you clean the head five or six times - takes a few minutes each time and by the way wastes ink doing so. It will work fine thereafter if you print something every few hours, but if it sits for a day you will need to start the process all over. I don't have the jam issues that others talk about but spend money on ink like crazy and don't have many nice prints to show for it. Forget doing any sort of photos. Horrible horrible horrible. It's sad as my first printer when I was a teenager back in the early 80's was an Epson - for the era it ran flawlessly and I loved the little thing. Epson has lost me as a customer forever.

I've been a loyal Epson user since the days when it was the only printer brand that would work flawlessly with Macs. Now that other brands are Mac-compatible, I'm regretting buying this Workforce 1100.First of all, like all the ones that came before it, this Epson sucks ink with impunity. If the fact that it has two black ink cartridges makes you think you'll have twice as long between ink-changes, you'd be wrong. You'll actually be changing ink cartridges just as often since the printer WON'T PRINT if EITHER of the black ink cartridges is out, regardless of the fact there's an entirely full black ink cartridge installed right next to it. That means you now have to keep TWICE the amount of black ink on hand than you used to.Secondly, you probably already know that even if you specify in the settings that you want to use only black ink, the color inks will be used anyway. And you've probably already guessed that if even ONE color is empty (or even just low), the printer will NOT print, even if you have only a black-text paper to print and specify B&W in the settings. You've probably already predicted how expensive these ink cartridges are. Finally, you might have expected that when the printer refuses to print because it wants you to change a cartridge that the printer utility interface would tell you which cartridge needs changing. If so, your expectations would be misplaced since this printer utility will only tell you what the ink levels were after the LAST time you changed the ink. No matter what you do to try to refresh the supply level to show which cartridge is empty, the printer will demand more ink, while the printer utility software will show nothing but full ink cartridges onscreen. Yes, I've updated my software. No, it hasn't helped. This printer has aggravated me so much that I've interrupted my latest print job to write this review at 1:35 AM and have sworn never to buy another Epson again. The one star is for speed, although be aware that this thing is LOUD.

The printer is the best in its category for sure. It is fast and easy to set up for oversized pages. I use mine to create pages for Scott stamp albums. Scott pages are too wide for a normal printer and require the wider format. It was super easy to set up and executes the pages from PowerPoint perfectly. Perfect printer for the collector or scrapbooker who doesn't want to be limited to narrow 8 1/2 inch paper.

First, be aware that the Workforce 1100 is a four-color printer, not a photo printer, and none of my comments reflect any expectation that it should produce output that looks like a photo printer. I expressly buy four-color printers so as to best simulate the four-color offset printing processes (i.e.: a printing press) which the art I create in Adobe Illustrator will eventually be reproduced as. If you are looking for a printer capable of the seamless, continuous tones that photographs contain, buy a six- or more-color printer designed for that purpose--not the Workforce 1100.Understanding the limitations of a four-color printer, I was still disappointed with and ultimately returned this printer. Its failings, in my experience, can be summarized by two phrases: "ink-sucking" and "clog-o-rama."For years, I nursed along a series of ancient Epson 740 printers, which--when they worked--produced remarkably smooth and bright output on any paper. The 740 is a scrappy, hardworking printer, but its printhead was prone to clogging frequently and randomly, and cannot be user replaced. Running the print driver's head-cleaning routine sucked a lot of ink and didn't always work, but by using refilled ink cartridges I was still able to print for about one-fifth the cost of people using newer printers. Unfortunately, the 740s eventually all gave up the ghost and it was time to buy a replacement.I'd been wanting large-format output on my next printer for a long time, and the Workforce 1100 fulfilled not only that requirement (and my four-color preference) but had a very reasonable purchase price. This large printer has a solid, sturdy feel for the price, and installation of its software on OS X went quickly and smoothly. (As other reviewers have noted, it is odd that a printer apparently targeted at business users has no built-in networking option, though you may be able to share it from the computer it's hooked to via USB with the help of printer sharing features on OS X or Windows.)The trouble began when I actually started printing. The output looked good at first--about the same as my old 740s, but with the added bonus of large-format output. But after literally only about fifty pages, rows on the printhead started to clog, requiring multiple ink-wasting cleaning cycles and the replacement of ink cartridges just to continue the cleaning process. And just like the old 740s, the Workforce 1100 pumps ink through all the printhead colors when cleaning--not just the one that's clogged. It eventually unclogged via cleaning cycles, but reclogged soon after.I apparently naively thought that 15 years of research and development on printing by Epson (since the time they'd made my earlier printer) would have resulted in a cure for the frequent clogging and heavy ink consumption that I knew was part of owning the older Epson printer. But I'm beginning to think it's less of a technical hurdle to be overcome by Epson than a designed-in strategy for selling ink--lots of ink. In my experience, the number of estimated pages of color printing listed on this printer's box is laughably optimistic.Well, Epson: "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." I packed the Workforce 1100 back in its original box and sent it back for a refund just before the official return period ended. I am now an HP printer owner and have had none of the problems I experienced with the 1100, let alone all those years with the 740s.If you still want to take your chances on this printer, I strongly suggest you keep the original box close at hand, as well, and keep an eye on the calendar so you don't miss the chance to return it in case you find, as I did, that the specs that look so good on paper end up not looking so good on a desk heaped with expensive ink cartridge empties.

If you like to use lots of ink cleaning your nozzles whenever you don't use the printer for a few days this is the printer for you. You can expect to spend about 40.00 just for black ink replacements and because the head cleaning takes a great deal of ink everytime you will need to buy more ink than you would if you used a printer that didn't clog so much. I bought this on the recommendation of someone and wish that I hadn't. Not a great company because they won't stand behind their products.

If it sits for so much as a week without printing, I have to re-align and clean it. It doesn't print very well in general when it does print. I'm going to buy an HP Photosmart next time. You do NOT want to print photos or artwork on this machine, they will not retain any of the richness you see on screen. I am astounded that any company can actually sell a piece of junk like this and even more astounded that some people actually can get it to work. I see that now the price has dropped down around $129 or so, which still makes it the most expensive paperweight I have ever owned. Ok, what are the facts as I see them? First of all, this is the flimsiest machine I have ever seen, and I spent a great deal of my life as an engineer analyzing plastic parts for durability. Tabs and other parts meant to hold this thing together are brittle and small and tend to break off when even trying to lift the printer up to a desk. As I received this device via UPS, I already noted that a few of these tabs had broken off and the machine as received was way off on printer head alignment. Now a reasonable person might say that this is the fault of the shipper, but printers are shipped, not delivered to our homes by gentle magic. OK, so I clean the plastic out of the machine and set it up on my desk and try to print, of course, the first thing that is required is print alignment, which finally worked after I had straightened out the paper handling system which wanted to send the paper through at a 30 degree angle, which bunched it up around the printer head.Anyway, finally getting the feed to work, the printer now has decided that one of the black cartridges is clogged, even though it prints a perfect head cleaning test pattern. So now it sits there and uses up ink trying to get rid of a non-existing clog. Well, anyway, I think you get the picture. Unless you like a rather large paperweight on you desk, avoid the Epson Workforce 1100 at any price.

As a graphic designer I still after all these years cannot understand why Epson is rated highly among designers. My first one 20 years ago was a piece of junk, this one I had high hopes.Heres the problems:1) Ink hog, after unclogging after low usage I only got less than 10 11 x 14 color prints.Colors were vivid and bright a little too much. I prefer the compatables that are bright but notneon like Epson.2) This is what gets me. I replaced three inks with genuine inks and I rec'd a don't recognize error.BTW I bought the inks on Amazon. After serious testing with my compatibles I discovered the yellowand blue worked vs. the so called OEM.I will keep on searching for a wide format and hopefully there will be one that I can depend on.I can't believe the waste of time investing and researching, setting up to find I only got10 prints.

I've had no real problems with this printer with the exception of it using vast quantities of ink. I have an ink tank system set up with it but the printer still decides it's out of ink after a rather short usage period even though it has plenty of ink. Due to the internal firmware of the 1100, the auto-reset feature of the CIS system does not work. The cartridge has to be removed to reset it to full. Not too big a deal if you're not printing on large, expensive paper but if you are, the printer kicks out the half finished print and you lose the page. Considering that it holds five (two black) cartridges that run out at different rates, I've lost too many prints to count. The printer will also not let you reset all the cartridges at once, only when it has decided they are individually empty. It all adds up to a printer that is useless for large format prints.I've used Epson printers for years but this will be my last one. This printer is built with the primary purpose of selling expensive Epson ink. Don't fall for it.

I'm not happy with the Epson Workforce 1100 Wide Format Printer. I received this printer on 12-4-09. Once I got this printer all set up, there were problems from the start. Once I installed the necessary included software onto my computer, it failed to detect it. I check my USB cable, that was fine. I checked to see if the printer was plugged in correctly, it was. However, since I have Windows 7, I thought possibly I needed an updated printer driver. I checked their website and they did have a Windows 7 driver available for download. I download then installed it on my computer. I was still having problems. I called Epson. A tech support technician walked me through a few steps and we finally got the printer to work correctly.Once I started printing, right away I was unimpressed with the print quality. While black and white printing was good, the output in color was average at best. The color is off on a lot of my printouts and it doesn't compare to my other printer. It's actually quite a bit worse. I've tried all kinds of paper types and weights of several different brands. I've tried tweaking the printer settings. Nothing seemed to work. This printer comes with series 68 inks(the high capacity inks) which I don't think was meant for great print quality. I figured maybe if I get the 69 series inks, which according to Epson's website, it's supposed to produce better quality prints, that would do the trick. I never got the chance to find out.Fast forward.Today, 12-22-09, I got my new 69 series inks. When I went to turn on the printer to install them, the printer started malfunctioning. The green power light started blinking and shut off, then the printer started grabbing the loaded paper half way then it stopped. This resulted in the paper getting jammed in the printer. Then the load paper and load ink lights started blinking orange in unison. I had to forcefully pull out the jammed paper. I turned off the printer and took out the paper from the top feeding tray. I turned the printer back on and again the same thing started happening except this time it kept grabbing for paper which wasn't there and again the orange lights would continuously blink. I barely used this printer because it was only intended for use if I need to print to larger paper. My main printer is my old Canon MX850.I called Epson and got a tech support technician. He walked me through a few troubleshooting steps and nothing seemed to work. Finally he told me this printer is experiencing a hardware failure and there was no fix. He offered to replace it but since it was within Amazon's 30-day window plus the extended holiday return period which I believe ends 1-31-10, I opted to just ship it back to Amazon and look for another brand printer.I purchased this printer because like I said, I needed it mainly for printing on large formats. I also purchased it because of the incredible price and great reviews. I had high hopes for this printer and I'm really disappointed with it. I have had a previous bad experience with another model Epson printer but I didn't let that dissuade me from getting this one because I believe just because one has a problem with a particular model of a brand doesn't mean it should tarnish their whole line of products. However, that's two for two and now I'm rethinking that idea. I'm sorry that my luck isn't as good as everyone else's but this is my honest experience with this product. I did plan on keeping it even though I initially wasn't impressed with the print quality until it started malfunctioning for no apparent reason.

Printer is quiet but does have a rather large foot print. 13 inches deep 24 inches wide and 7 to 8 inches high, with all print doors closed. Thanks to the reviews written by others,on this product, and the review written by PC Magazine ([...]) I'm glad I purchased it. I typically would not have looked at this unit because it is so inexpensively priced. The workforce 1100 is well worth the money, if you can live without a network connection and are willing to print 2 sided booklet publications manually. From time to time I have a need for a large format, 11X17, color printer. In all fairness I am not a fan of any inkjet printer because of the cost of the cartridges and the maintenance required when not used often enough.Prior to buying the Work Force 1100 I had an HP to do the same job. It was okay but at the time I thought it ran through too much ink and HP has notoriously bad drivers for a 64 bit operating system. So when it died I found the Epson and thought, great cheap and better than HP. Boy was I wrong. The printer eats paper, and when it does gives you the "out of ink" message. Replacing the cartridges runs about $100, the printer is $150. Horrible tech support, they've replaced it twice.Guess I'll be buying a Canon next time.

I had an antique large format epson printer and loved having it. I was in constant fear of the price of the ink. Like $85 THEN... It sat and needed about $200 of maintenance before I could use it IF I could find a service center.I need large prints as an artist. I use it for laying out, promotions and proofing work. For the last two years or more I have just printed out sheets and carefully taped them together.Although this is far from perfect, what I LIKE about it is it is simple, it prints twice as much content and at a reasonable speed.I can't say I am disappointed but the color is not as crisp as I wished, the ink is going fast (but the carts are only $15-18 which is less of a panic) and I am trying to print ONE item a day to keep the ink flowing.Epson's nasty/good features have always been the ink heads that need to be primed or flushed or whatever to keep them clean. Their old reputation was always based on clarity of color. This EATS your ink and that is where the expense is.FOR THE MONEY, I am thrilled! The whole new (warrantied) unit is less than half the cost the old machine would have needed to be serviced. (I donated it to a repair shop that I could never afford to use, to help out a die hard user who may need a higher quality than I do.)This was purchased through Amazon but not FROM Amazon. A small glitch in the UPS tracking had me holding my breath, but it came a day early so I am pleased with the process. I had realistic expectations and received a good product that satisfies me and a bit more!

I have been a die hard HP buyer for many years until running into trouble with a HP K8600dn Pro Office Jet printer. Bought it for the 13X19 capable printing and also the large volume ink wells. The printer was nothing but problems after the first month and until 2 weeks after the warranty was up when HP finally said the printer was bad and not the print heads. They would sell me another printer for $329. The whole time the printer was under warranty they said it was a printhead problem and would send me new ones every time they stopped working, until the end of the warranty. Well I searched for a printer that would do the same job and found the Epson Workforce 1100, it does not have the built in duplex or networking but most new routers do have a USB port you can plus the printer in and share over your network or Windows 7 printer sharing works just as well. The 1100 out of the box was a better built printer, it did not feel as cheap and after hooking it up and doing several test prints of all the sizes from 4X6 gloss photo to 13X19 matte photo and 8.5X11 text docs I was impressed with the speed and quality. I even printed several iron on sheets and heat pressed on aprons for Christmas and the colors were bright and even after washing did not fade. The Hp originally sold for $399 +tax and $49 for extended warranty, The Epson was #121.00 with free shipping. I could have bought 3 of the Epson printers and still spent less than the one HP and the Epson has by far much better print quality and I have had zero print problems and zero mechanical problems after a little more than a month of ownership. That is longer than the HP before I returned the first printer and had it replaced because it stopped working and would not even power up. I will update this review after owning the Epson for 6 months.

I am usually very happy with Epson products, but the workforce 1100 is a complete waste of money. Ink cartridges are short lived, sometimes only last a few prints with high color coverage. If you let it sit for a few weeks without printing, the ink heads will clog and basically need to start from scratch because the cleaning process will use up the entire cartridge (that is nearly $100 worth of ink) and waste hours of your day. Spend the extra money on a better rated large format printer. You certainly get what you pay for, and this ends up being more expensive in the end anyway.

First negative: There is a light buzzing noise that occurs after printing something. Its get quite annoying after a while. Second: Although I just printed out several files in which the black came out just fine I am getting a notice that the black is out and I must replace. It will not let me print out anything else until i replace the black ink. Maybey not the biggest negatives but if i could go back I wouldnt purchase it again.

this printer is a total piece of garbage. i went back and forth between this and the HP version that's in the same price range. i had always had HP wide format printers, and my dumb a%% decided to give epson a try. i wanted to see if it had better quality/longer lasting ink. well...it doesn't. ink cartridges don't last long...print quality is about a 6 out of 10, but the quality of this thing is what's really horrendous. i had to return my printer to epson last week, and i bought it new on amazon on may 1st. they told me that i could either mail mine back to them, and they'd get me a new one within 7 business days, or i could give my credit card, and they'd put a "hold" on the price to replace it, just in case i never returned mine. (yea, right...i don't want two of these pieces of garbage!). well...i paid authorized the deposit and i just got the "new" one from epson....ummmm, it's a refurbished model! what a crock!! this printer is god awful, and EASILY the worst printer i've ever had. if someone is holding a gun to your head telling you to buy this or they're going to shoot you...let them shoot you

I got this printer for my wife and she loves it. Even though it's kind of large and we had to make room for it, it is well worth the price and exactly what we were looking for - an inexpensive wide format printer. I knew that she had been looking for another brand but the price was not in the range we were willing to pay. So when she saw it while browsing and saw the ink price we decided to jump on it. Glad we did. All the features have not been tried out yet but we are sure it is what we had been searching for. It would have been even better if it was a multifunction and wireless. Since it's not we will have 2 printers set up and ready for use.

Bought Epson workforce 1100 new from Amazon, March, 2011. Paper jams began about 60 days later;frequency increased over time. Careful clearing didn't seem to affect frequency of jams. Two days ago I started getting 100% jams. Then I got an error message that the Cyan cartrige was empty; took it out & shook it; clearly felt the ink sloshing in it. Called warranty service; they said I had to buy a new cyan. I installed new one today; same error message now so I called Epson again. Got the runaround; they asked for the part number on the new cartrige; it wasn't one of theirs, so of course they insisted I go out & buy their product. I asked for authorization to take printer to their named authorized repair; they refused. CLEARLY THEY DON'T CARE THAT THEIR PRODUCT HAS A PROBLEM;they just want to push the issue onto their customers. Will buy a Cannon tomarrow!

The quality of the printer is good but compared to same quantum of printing on my hp 9800, i was required to change my ink every week...and the ink is very expensive and requires five cartridges which cannot be refilled (maybe there is a way but the label indicates otherwise and the two companies that normally refill my ink says it cannot be done). Not an economical buy but really a strain on my pocket. The replacement cartridges were more than the cost of the printer! After one month, I had to revert to another inkjet model which really gives the same quality for 1/4 the price because the cost was killing me.

For the 35 minutes or so that this printer actually functioned it made nice prints. But print heads inexplicably (and repeatedly) jammed. Clearing them involves pumping extra ink through them, so ink cartridges vanished before my very eyes. I finally gave up and replaced it with an HP 7000 Wide Format machine, which is everything this piece of junk is not.Avoid this printer at all costs.

It prints too fast and for me being a visual artist and silkscreen hobby man, that is not what I am used to with an inkjet printer. I want my positives transparency film output to be as dark as possible. I have produced some fine positives with this printer but my halftone gradients are not coming out as dark as I would like. By the way I only usually print out black ink and I havent ran out of it yet so I can only assume that I would only replace that color(s two black cartridges when needed. I like Epson support and Amazon is great. Thank you. El.

Picked up this printer in order to print wide format for a golf vacation. The printer performed as required. I would not say that this printer is spectacular, but it is a good buy for the price. The one thing that surprised me is the weight. This printer is build very sturdy, and in order to handle wide format paper, is fairly heavy and large. I guess this is expected, but I still thought it may be lighter as materials have moved in that direction. Perhaps the weight is a sign of good build quality. I guess you could view it either way.

Having read some of the reviews, I was anxious to receive and try this printer. I was NOT at all disappointed. As the ratings show, I don't think there could possibly be any printer that is better. When you throw in price, quality and speed, you can't go wrong. From the very first print, I was amazed. I printed a 5 megapixel (2592 x 1944-2.3 MB) digital picture as a 13 x 19 borderless print, and to the naked eye, saw no pixelation. I'm using the printer to make photographic backdrops for a model railroad in addition to prints for framing and hanging. I have been using Epson printers for close to to 20 years. I have never been disappointed.

The printer has good reviews. My HP quit in the middle of a job so I searched for a replacement. I chose anEpson wide format Workforce 1100 after reading customer reviews. The printer came delivered in the colorful Epson printer box inside a second Amazon supplied cardboard box. The outer box was a bit roughed up at the corners but in decent shape. Good move Amazon. Unfortunately the printer did not work out of the box. After loading the ink and following instructions only the lights blinking showed signs of life. No paper feeding, no carriage movement. According to the Epson shipping documents for the replacement the serial number belonged to a refurbished printer. I did not realize I was purchasing a refurbished printer. I might have purchased a refurbished printer as I have done so with other products in the past but this news was a surprise.Epson charges for the phone call to customer service. I tried the online help and email approach to get to customer service but got no response. Epson held my credit card number and FEDEX'd out another printer. The second printer came in the Epson box only, no outer box. Two of the Epson box corners were split down the side and the styrofoam packing was broken. The printer seems undamaged and appears to work as it should. Single sheets of text come out of the printer very fast. Wide format color printing takes a bit longer but works well. Further testing will tell me if I would purchase another. I do wish companies would spend as much time and money on the product and support as they do with the advertising and marketing. One thing they could do is monitor the damages from Fedex or UPS and do what Amazon did by double boxing or take additional steps like stick-on impact monitor tags. I've used these in the past and shipments with these impact monitors arrive undamaged more often than those without. Damages to shipments seem to be greater these days.

So I bought this printer about a year ago. It was on clearance ( this was my first clue that I shouldnt buy it) Oh well, I bought it and brought it home. Claims to be a color printer but the color prints it produces are pathetic, I would not give anyone a color print from this printer. white lines and streaks all across the picture. Black and white images ( simple images ) are ok I suppose, but any printer can do that, this printer claims to be "large format" and color, which it fails at both jobs. The one reason I am getting rid of this printer is because of the ink cartridge situation. Please please read this next part carefully, it will save you a lot of time, money, and frustration. Epson has a stranglehold on their ink cartridge replacement, this is where they get your money. Every time you print, even if its just black and white, it cleans all the cartridges, which means that it uses a little bit of all the ink cartridges each time you print. So you waste a little ink each time. THIS PRINTER WILL NOT WORK IF ONE CARTRIDGE IS EMPTY. If you are trying to print something in black and white and the magenta cartridge is empty, the printer will not print at all until you have replaced the magenta. These cartridges have a chip that tells the printer the level of ink left in the cartridge. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was when I was out of Magenta (even though I only print blk/wht the magenta is empty!!!) So I went and spent $17.00 on an official Epson cartridge. Brought it home and low and behold, when I try and use the printer it gives me the error message "Cartridge not recognized, please use official epson brand." This baffles me that a company can get away with something like this. First they claim its a color printer when it fails at printing anything in color, second they force you to spend money on cartridges you aren't using, and third, the cartridges don't even work and they dont try to remedy this at all, you're just stuck with it! I bought a chip resetter ( yes, this is the one solution to this problem I have found through googling this problem. Go ahead, google epson ink cartridge resetter) and the chip resetter didnt even work, still wont recognize my official brand new $17.00 cartridge. Shady business practices. I dont mean to ramble but please please please do some research on this before buying. I am going to buy a new printer and literally smash this Epson 1100 into a million pieces in my back yard. It is going to feel so good.

I'll admit, I wasn't mentally prepared for the size of the printer until it came in. My first thought was, "My goodness, this thing is humongous." And you can tell that before even taking it out of the box. So, if you are going to pick one up, make sure you have plenty of room to put it somewhere.I do want to point out a few negatives before I get to the two big positives. Despite my "gripes", I think the positives outweigh the negatives.Negative #1: It's huge. Okay, I've covered that.Negative #2: No network support. Is a NIC card really going to make it much more expensive? This is a frustration as I have four computers in my network and I hate sharing printers. Luckily I had another print server but I would think product with the word "Workforce" in it would gear itself towards networking capabilities.Negative #3: TOC (Total cost of ownership). Granted, this is cheaper than running out to a print shop everytime you need a large print done but the cost of ink has already sticker-shocked me and I've only had it for less than a month (my wife loves scrapbooking). I'm surprised how quickly we went through the ink it came with and I feel like we are going through the initial replacement faster than I ever did on my HP Photosmart (which has a NIC, by the way). In fact, this has become printer choice #3. For black and white we use the laser, for printer that don't need to be blown up we use the Photosmart, and then we turn to this for blown-up photo printing. I hate reserving so much space for something that is only used 10% of the time. But, on to the positives. And I think these are the two things you should consider when looking to pick this up.Positive #1: In my opinion, this is my highest consideration. The prints are BEAUTIFUL and FLAWLESS! I love printing to this printer when I want to go big on some of my photos. It is definitely better than what you'll get off of a color laser (you've got to drop a lot of coinage if you want a laser to print like this) and carries the same quality as my HP Photosmart. So if it is large, photo-quality prints then this is the way to go.Positive #2: I might be a little old school here, but I remember when printing something like this took forever. I was actually surprised at how quickly it printed this out and even beat out the HP Photosmart on larger prints. My first printout I had to go back to my print settings to verify that I had printed out on my highest print quality just to make sure. I don't print out tons and tons, but I've really appreciated the fact that the onsis and twosies I print I don't need to wait forever to get it to come out.Bottom line: the quality is there and the speed is pretty good, but if you print to it a lot you are going to end up paying the price of this printer many times over.

I needed a large-format inkjet that could do a great job on book covers, at a reasonable price. The Workforce 1100 handles the task extremely well.I tested it with Inkpress Fine Art Rag Cool Tone, 300 gsm, 24 mil, Double Sided, 13 x 19, (25 sheets) and two other Inkpress stocks. The results are amazing. The old saying may advise, "Don't judge a book by it's cover," but my books look utterly fantastic. The 1100 handles up to 13 inch wide stock, so you can use the large 13x19 sheets if you need. That's big enough to print full-bleed 12x12 scrapbook pages, if you have scrapbookers in the family. In my case, I can create a full-bleed cover for an 8.5x11 inch book by using the 13x19 stock and trimming the edges after printing. Alternatively, you can use the same 13x19 paper to create full-bleed tabloid brochures, or even full-bleed data sheets (cut into two 8.5x11 pages). The printer uses separate ink cartridges, which saves money. You don't toss out yellow and magenta ink when the cyan ink is gone.Overall, a great printer if you want large format inkjet output. But you should be cautious that the paper stock you use measures up to the printer's capability:We like the results with Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper for photos and glossy single sided materials. If you are creating covers, brochures or data sheets, invest in a heavier stock. Your document just won't feel right on regular office paper stock. In general, the larger the sheet, the heaver it needs to be to to not feel flimsy. I strongly recommend against using regular office paper for 11x17 printing, unless presentation and feel just don't matter.Evaluate what the color of the stock can do for your project. For example Inkpress sells "Inkpress Rag, Warm Tone Double Sided, Cream White Matte Inkjet Paper" to impart a warm, almost antique look to some covers.I've mentioned full-bleed a couple of times. This means printing color right off the edge of the page. You can create a full-bleed 11x17 brochure (folds down to four pages, 8.5x11) by printing a 12x18 image on 13x19 stock, then trimming the edges. The specs claim that this printer can print borderless 13x19 sheets, but I haven't tried it.Five stars for completely solving my large format printing problem.Addendum two days later: It's quieter than our previous HP & Epson inkjet printers. I don't understand the noise complaint mentioned by another reviewer.Final update, three weeks later: We've now produced several book mockups using the 300gsm weight Inkpress paper for covers, and some two-sided presentation paper stock from HP for the inside pages. Results are spectacular. For this project, on both the covers and inside pages, photographs are indistinguishable from pages printed on 6-color inkjets. This printer is ideal for all of our large-format business and book mockup projects.

The Epson 1100 worked until it started to run out of ink. The ink light came on and wouldn't go off even after I replaced all 5 cartridges. So I called customer support. Anyone who complains about call centers located in places like India, would be begging for a foreign voice after speaking with Jean from Epson. She seemed preoccupied and the connection was awful. Then she put me hold, where I was treated to blasting hip hop music that sounded like it was coming from a station that wasn't tuned in properly. After some conversation and turning the printer on and off, Jean informed me that Epson was sending me a new set of cartridges within 3 to 7 business days. I told her this was unacceptable, since I needed the printer for work. After much conversation, I got her to overnight the cartridges. She confessed that there were problems with a chip in the ink cartridges. Fine, but what if it turns out the printer was the problem and not the cartridges? Then I'm in trouble. It sounded like Epson was having problems with this model and/or the cartridges.I bought an expensive large format Epson Stylus printer back around 2003. By 2005, they were no longer supporting machine with driver updates for Mac. They basically hung me out to dry. I figured plenty of time had gone by and I'd try Epson again -- am I ever sorry. I'll never buy another epson product as long as I live.
