My screen cracked within the first week of use
We have always used Otterbox Defender series for every Apple iPhone and iPad in our home without any issues. Our young kids have dropped, thrown, chewed on, and otherwise beat up our electronics, and they remained in perfect working order. We just bought new iPads for the kids for Christmas, and of course ordered the Otterbox cases again. I could tell immediately out of the box they are not the same quality as before. The interior cases are much lighter and more flimsy than before, and the outside hard case that covers the screen when not in use is thicker, heavier, and frankly really annoying. It takes a lot to get it off and on the tablet. You also have to take it off to open the charging port, which was not the case with previous generations of Otterbox. The biggest issue is that within one week of using this case, my son's iPad screen cracked! We were so heartbroken because we didn't order the AppleCare warranty because we thought we wouldn't need it with the Otterbox. It was going to cost $160 for a new screen, but thankfully Amazon is replacing the iPad since it has been less than 30 days since we got it. What happened to your level of quality, Otterbox?

Very durable and comfortable in my hands worth the money guaranteed
Its a damn good case and worth the money. Protects all the ports and power and volume buttons are easy to find and not hard to press on them either and the built in screen protector is awesome not much of a glare when using it outside screen is still visible even when watching shows or movies. I’ve been an otter box owner for all models of apple iPhones and iPad mini’s. It may be bulky for the iPhone but it’s worth it. And for the iPad mini 5 it feels really safe in my hands and I have confidence the the case will protect my iPad mini 5.

Great protection. Otter box needs to design a defender/commuter hybrid.
I had no horrors installing this. I had read of some who did. I searched a YouTube video for the one thing that wasn’t obvious to me (I think it was the clips around the shell but YouTube and my 11 year old sorted me out). It protects like an otter box. I wish otter box made a defender style case that you can have your own screen protector in or had a glass one that they make to install. I hate buying a $500 device and then covering it with plastic. The whole experience is much less enjoyable. Since this does get used by a small child, though, it’s what must be done since they offer no alternative (tried the commuter and love it for my phone, but the 6 year old doesn’t touch my phone so it’s not a big deal...the commuter doesn’t protect like the defender). The charging port is also pretty annoying because I have to remove the top shell to get to it and then it’s stiff to open it and really deep to shove the cable into. I sometimes miss and scrape the device with the cable. The headphone port is similar but as it is circular it is far less annoying. I would buy again but very much wish there was an option with glass.

Good case but messes with Touch ID
I really like the case I had one for my iPad Mini 4 so when I sold it for the Mini 5 I also bought the new case. For me it was giving my Touch ID problems. I took the screen off and Touch ID always worked. I used an XACTO knife and cut out and around the plastic sheet that covers over the home button. Stopped having problems after that.

Pricey, but Fantastic iPad Case
I bought an iPad mini and wanted to protect it. I researched multiple reviews on the internet before making my decision. OtterBox kept coming up again and again.
The OtterBox case offers multiple layers of protection to the iPad. The case that wraps around the tablet has a built in screen protector. All the holes line up, so it doesn’t block your camera or access to the ports. I like that it comes with an outer “shield” that has a built in stand.
My little 3 year old loves using my iPad mini. He drops it all the time but so far so good, no problems thanks to this cover. My son also leaves sticky little finger prints on the screen, but I just take take a damp cloth to wipe it and it’s clean. He’s spilled water on it and it didn’t penetrate the screen protector, but mind you I got to it right away to wipe it.
The only issues I had was getting the IPad into the case. I remember having some difficulty separating the case to get the IPad into the case. The other issue is that the case is heavy. The case offers great protection, but adds weight to the iPad.
Very happy with the case. A bit pricey, but with this case , you get what you pay for. It really does offer great protection to your iPad.

Love this case! Fits great! And toddler proof!
Bought an iPad mini 5th generation tablet for my 3 year old COULD NOT GET A BETTER CASE! I love this case there’s no way my 3 year old will be able to break this tablet I’m very satisfied with this purchase I only purchase otter boxes for my kids (my older 2 kids 12&8 year olds have otter boxes on iPhones for over a year with the same case and have not broken a phone screen or phone at all) I will definitely purchase more otter boxes in the future it fit the tablet perfectly!

A Great Case Provided You Don't Go Crazy Trying to Install Your Ipad In It
Like I said, this is a great case and I feel like it will protect my Ipad very nicely. But getting the case apart to install it and then getting it back together again gives new meaning to the word "frustrating." I eventually managed to do this, but I seriously wondered if I had received a damaged case. The instructions were not helpful on this at all.

The unattached cover doubles poorly as a stand.
Pro: If you’re looking for the ultimate protective case, this is it. Full coverage with the screen protected by a sturdy touchscreen that is very sensitive to the touch as well as a hard black cover that is not attached, but presses in place securely on the back when tablet is in use and over the screen when your not using the tablet.
Con: The reason I had to return it was the stand aka front cover. As a stand it is unbelievable how in the world Otterbox didn’t think it through. The 2 angles the stand will accomplish, if you mess with it long enough to balance the case and force it in place or wiggle it while pushing down very firmly, will put the tablet in a perfect vertical position (straight up and down). The other option has the tablet laying on it’s long edge at a slight recline. That unfortunately was why I returned it.

This Otterbox takes patience but the result is sweet. Love it!
Hard to beat Otterbox. I’ve used Otterbox for multiple iPhones and my iPad series 3 mini for years. Bought this one last Fall and couldn’t get it disassembled so returned it in favor of that super duper specially-designed case with the magnetized cover. Last week it started to deform and the cover was looking trashy, so back to Otterbox. To disassemble it to install the iPad mini, you need a pen knife to work on a couple clips and a lot of patience, but it’s installed. My finger print touch works through the Otterbox plastic screen cover and the simple screen cover I had on the iPad mini 5 with the other cover. It’s a very substantial feel in the hand, and if you have the Apple Pencil it clips to the inside of the cover. Sweet!

Quality iPad case
Otterbox cases have been hit and miss for the last few years. The early iPhone cases were excellent then they got crappy and now it’s seems they’ve righted themselves. I looked at everything but otterbox For my new iPad but the selection was poor. My outgoing iPad had a life proof case that worked well but there wasn’t a choice for one on Amazon. All I found were the off-brand ones and the otterbox. I originally got a clear slim-line otterbox but it arrived broken- not a good sign. So I returned it for a Defender case. It’s well made and works well.

I just got this case, but I already like it very much! It definitely seems sturdy! The iPad mini is super thin, more than I’d like personally, so for me this case gave it the right amount of “thickness “ so I don’t feel like it will snap in half in my hands. It’s also grippy, so it shouldn’t slip out of your hands easily like an unprotected iPad would. It does have a screen protector attached to the front. I put a glass screen protector directly on my iPad, and the two screen protectors together do not hinder screen responsiveness at all. I really like the built in stand as well, and it’s easy to use. I may get an apple pen later, but for now I have a simple adonit mark stylus so I don’t have to touch my screen while I’m cooking. The Adonit mark stylus fits fine in the pen holder, and doesn’t hinder the case/stand from snapping on the back of the iPad. Honestly I’d give it more than 5 stars if I could.

OtterBox Has Never Let Me Down
Over the years, I have purchased a new OtterBox protective system for all of my equipment. It gives me great peace of mind that it's there to do its job, a job it does so well. I don't drop items very often, but I am happy that the Box is there. Did I mention I have grand kids who "use" my equipment when they are not supposed to? Well worth the money. I know that many people eschew putting protective devices on their "sweet" looking gear. I'm well beyond that worry. Looks don't prevent cracked/broken equipment.

The best. Protection+Ease of use+versatility.
A bit challenging while installing but perhaps that’s part of the point. Once done, I was convinced the hours of mental gymnastics spent trying to find other cases, all of which compare themselves to Otterbox was worthless. This is the best, for my purposes. Sealed well, seems extraordinarily strong, all ports and sound work perfectly and line-up, screen is exactly as sensitive as without a case, the stand has multiple angles as well as a spot for my iPad Pencil (huge), and it also doubles as additional protection.

Expensive for a reason
I've had an Otterbox Defender on my iPhone 6s Plus since it was new. I still use the phone. It's been dropped, kicked, thrown, everything you can think of. Always protects. I keep my iPad Mini in a backpack for work and I have no worries that its protected all the time.
The cover snaps on distinctly and takes a little effort to get off. It's not coming off accidentally.
It's bulkier than the rest, but if you're tough on your electronics, it's a must have.

Great case for tablets!
Similar to my Defender case on the Samsung Tab S6, I think the quality is amazing and makes you really think your tablet is safe.
I feel like the plastic cover is a bit awkward to hold and I'd love to see you make it a bit more ergonomic.
The fingerprint reader is a little hard to use, however it does work.

Not Worth It
If the Spanish Inquisition had known about this contraption, it would have been their favorite torture instrument. Very little help in explaining how to disassemble so you can put your iPad in it and then cover it up again. Your iPad is so bound up that it's safe all right: safe from being used. Unless you're planning to beat your iPad with hammers, I don't know why you would want to go to all this trouble.

Worth Every Penny
I purchased this for my nephew after dropping his iPad (after having it for a day) and cracking the screen. After his father got the screen fixed, I sent him this. This has maintained the integrity of the iPad for over one year now. Yes, it may be a little bulky, but it is worth any minor inconvenience.

Best Protection for your iPad Mini 5Gen
This is my second Otter Box Defender for an iPad Mini and I am not disappointed in the updated design and ease of installation. The new design allows for retention of the iPen to be neatly stored in the lid and the integrated protector covers for all ports have also been upgraded for ease of access ad well as protection.

Huge fan of Otterbox products, and this one is no exception
I’m rough on electronics. I’ve been using Otterbox cases on my devices since 2012, and they’re pretty much the only name I trust. This is a fantastic case… also functions as a stand. I use my iPad at work to play music so I can have my phone with me if I need to leave my workspace for any reason, and I know it’s safe in this case.

Not as good as previous cases
We bought this case for our daughter's iPad mini because we wanted something that was durable, and protect the iPad from whatever a child throws at it. Twice, it has gotten moisture under the screen protector and the Ipad would not work. Will go back to life proof cases.

Otterbox never disappoints
Otterbox is always one of the most durable products! The defender series is awesome if you have a toddler who drops their IPAD all the time. I take the IPAD out of the protector just to check what shape it is in and it is ALWAYS in fantastic shape no matter what the protector looks like. It is expensive, but so is replacing a screen every so often.

Perfect fit for the iPad Mini 5
OtterBox consistently produces high quality products. This is no exception. I find the plastic cover difficult to remove when compared to previous model iPads and Defender cases for other phones and tablets.
I don’t trust any other brand with my mobile internet devices.

Great Company, solid stuff
I had an otter box for my old iPad, and they work great. Otter box makes quality things and their cases will last quite a while. It has protected my iPad from falling like 4ft, and great for those everyday drops, it will even hold up if you drop your iPad down the stairs. Overall a solid case and company, easy 5 stars.
