On an Asus x570 TUF motherboard this large cooler completely covers the first RAM slot. I have G Skill Trident memory, and if I had 4 sticks I would 100% not be able to use this cooler.
The RGB can be controlled by the included controller which cycles through lighting effects. I would have liked an option to control the speed of the presets. The rainbow mode looks best but cycles extremely fast. It probably goes through the entire color spectrum twice per second which looks too "busy"
The RGB can also be changed over to be controlled via Aura Sync by pushing a button on the controller. The Aura sync lighting doesn't look very bright or good. And here's why:
These cooler master fans just aren't RGB. All of the RGB effect is inside of the cooler sheath and the type of plastic used on the fan fins reflects that light. This doesn't work very well when controlled with Aura sync.
All in all, I kind of miss the Wraith Prism. The lighting effects on it are arguably more striking and look better especially thru a glass panel. I might put it back on, I'm not seeing tremendous thermal gains with this. Might go back to that one or try something else, this is bulky and has overhyped RGB.
This fan is quiet and does a reasonably good job cooling.
Be very careful detaching and reattaching the fans during installation. The plastic screw threads are very fragile. Be gentle and don't overtighten.
This was my first build so I had no clue how to get the LED lights on or where to plug it in. I didn’t realize that you have to use the included wired controller, which is then plugged into one of the cables from your power supply (not the board). Controller is very easy to use, and I’m glad I didn't have to mess with software.
As others have mentioned, the heatsink fins are pointed towards the RAM and I/O cover. For my MSI B450i, there’s about one centimeter (maybe less) where the air can come out on either end. Combined with an ultra small form factor case, my CPU runs pretty hot. So get some good thermal paste like Grizzly to mitigate this.
Not silent, but not loud either. Acceptable noise.
Other than those things, I’m fairly pleased with it.
