There are two versions of Red Cliff, this version and the Shorter one disk version. Do yourself a favour and buy the Special Edition.
This is based on the Mythic history of China, in the Three Kingdoms era, so you can expect to see larger than life heroes, performing greater than human acts. However these acts are kept at the low end of the "heroic" scale. You won't find people standing on a single stem of bamboo, however you will see One man take on hundreds and win, or shoulder barge two horses out of the way.
The length of the Special Edition (about 5 hours) will no doubt intimidate some, however it really is worth the bother. I bought the short version first. It's still a spectacle, and is very well edited but the characters lack definition and some of the cuts made for time actually lose some major plot points that in the finale of the film leaves you to wondering what is going on. To give an example, one female character is shown at the end of the Film crying amongst the dead, in the Short version of the film this doesn't seem to make sense regarding what you know of her. In the full length version it makes a lot more sense.
The Film is a masterpiece, the set piece battles have been excellently choreographed and are impressive, and the Actors are excellent!

Awesome epic.
I owned a dvd version previously but decided to treat myself to the blue ray. It was well worth the extra money. I love the quieter periods of this film as much or more than the battles. The photography, the costumes and settings ,so much to enjoy .. and I love the music soundtrack.

Whilst it's reasonably long and requires a couple of breaks, every moment is worth watching, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and have watched it a couple of times since purchasing.
I won't go into any further detail as I don't want to accidently drop any spoilers, definitely recommend giving it a watch though!

Such a beautiful experience...
I 'm not a fan of war movies and I was not a fan of Asian art, but I must say that I discovered beautiful movies and stories lately that has made me changed my mind about Asian art. In truth, Forbidden Kingdom made me curious about John Woo who seems to be an authority in that style and genre and Red Cliff is also describe as one of his best movie. So here we are. And what a beautiful surprise it was. I will not say I enjoyed the battles that much because I still don't like war movies, but the image is so beautiful, the acting so well played, the ingenuity and cleverness of each side so imaginative and intelligent that I was out of breath. And after this movie, now I can say that John Woo won. I already started to follow those kind of movies and I already spotted a couple on which I'm now willing to give a try.
Red Cliff is a master piece. The Extended Version worth the buy. You won't regret it.

About time!!
I am not exactly sure what problem people have with this release. I saw the "Theatrical Cut" in the cinema, a version that combined the two films together with a patronising american voice over, and it was amazing, now having the chance to see it in its original form is even better, not only are we introduced to a new series of plot lines, but new characters and a film that deserves to sit up there on your shelves.
This is not a random martial arts film, this is John Woo's Epic. It is not simply about two armies beating the hell out of each other, but a multi layered narrative about friendships, warfare and philosophy. The use of the tea making ceremony is incredibly important.
I'm not quite sure what problem people have with the subtitles, I can read them on a 32" HD TV, and if you want to skip the trailers, just fast forward, it's not complicated.
My only problem with the discs is that I would have liked a few more special features, but thats personal taste and holds nothing against the film.
If you don't want to think, and just want to watch bad martial arts, go and watch a film with Jason Statham, if you want something that is entertaining and beautiful, I recommend this film.

Es hätte so schön sein können....
RED CLIFF ist ein gerade auf dem asiastischen Markt sehr populäres historisches Film-Epos von Niemand anderem als John Woo – erzählt wird der Untergang einer ganzen Dynastie, drei Königreiche werden, auch durch Intrigen und untätige Herrscher, in einen erbarmungslosen Krieg gerissen.
Wer auf epische Historienfilme mit jeder Menge (teils auch sehr cinematischer) Action steht sollte mit RED CLIFF eigentlich gut bedient sein, denn technisch ist an der DVD Umsetzung nichts auszusetzen, und optisch sowie akustisch liefert RED CLIFF, auch durch einen ganz charakteristischen Look, einige echte Schmankerl ab. Hinzu kommt, dass einige sehr populäre Namen des Asia-Kinos mitwirken und der Film also vor und hinter der Kamera einige echte Stars hat.
Allerdings kann ich dennoch zum Kauf dieser DVD kaum raten, denn all die genannten positiven Aspekte können nun mal nichts an dem Umstand ändern, dass die hier rezensierte Version sage und schreibe um die Hälfte (!) gekürzt ist.
Trotz der amtlichen Laufzeit von über 2 Stunden wird also die gesamte Story um RED CLIFF nur fragmentarisch widergegeben, die Handlung ist auf die Action reduziert und es ist kaum möglich, dieser wirklich zu folgen. Die Motivation vieler Protagonisten bleibt nebulös, und viele Entwicklungen der Geschichte sind gerade in der zweiten Hälfte oftmals komplett schleierhaft. Im Prinzip konnte ich diese Version von RED CLIFF nur zu Ende sehen, in dem ich mein Hirn quasi ausschaltete und mir keine Gedanken mehr um die Handlung machte… was wohl kaum im Sinne der Macher war.
Man merkt schlichtweg an allen Ecken und Enden, dass diese Version von RED CLIFF den Film nur verstümmelt zeigt, und natürlich funktioniert dies einfach nicht.
Ich kann nur feststellen: solche Versionen wie diese hier braucht im Grunde genommen kein Mensch. Truly Awesome.
I originally bought the cut down 2hr 30min. version of this film (big mistake), even though I knew that the full film was nearly 5hrs. long, thinking that it would still be a good movie (and it is). But the editing left so much out that as to be seen, the shorter version tends to be more confusing because of it. I now have this version and I'm glad I have, it is a true masterpiece of cinema. If you regard yourself as a film buff and a fan of epic cinema then there are certain movies that should be in your collection,Lawrence Of Arabia, Spartacus, Braveheart, Gladiator,(to name just four) and Red Cliff (special edition).
I have only one criticism of the film, and that is the subtitles. I'm not a great fan of subtitles and so a lot of good foriegn language movies have passed me by (my loss). On this film the subtitles are rather small and hard to read, depending on the background, and sometimes the dialogue between characters is quite fast so they change quickly. But don't let that put you off, this film is truly awesome and on blu-ray looks and sounds superb.

Schlecht für drei Reiche Fans
Ich befasse mich seit einigen Jahren mit der drei Reiche Saga und habe mir den Film angesehen weil er mir wärmstens empfohlen wurde. Am Anfang hatte ich Spaß aber in dem Film geht es viel zu viel um Shou Ju und die Liebesgeschichte mit Xiao Qiao frisst so viel Zeit und sorgt gegen Ende für die unlogischsten Momente und ruiniert das Ende. Pang Tong fehlt komplett. Kongmin darf wenigstens Pfeile sammeln :-)

Guter Film mit beeindruckendem Hauptdarsteller
der Film ist vom Stil her angelehnt an Hero, aber dem Spruch am Cover " Stark wie 300, Atemberaubend wie Hero, Episch wie Troja " wird er sicher nicht gerecht, alle 3 genannten Filme haben viel bessere und hervorragende Kampfszenen, 300 ist außerdem viel gewaltiger (echter Kriegergeist), Troja viel beeindruckend epischer und Hero noch dazu viel tiefgründiger.
Der Haupttdarsteller spielt allerdings sehr gut, er verkörpert die innere Festigkeit, Ruhe und Geduld sowie Menschlichkeit eines echten Kriegers und Heerführeres. Ohne ihn wäre der Film nur die Häfte wert.
Gut ist meines Erachtens, dass nicht so lächerlichen Szenen mit viel Gezeter und emotionalen Ausbrüchen vorkommen wie in vielen aiatischen Filmen.
Red Cliff ist doch für mich ein ernst zu nehmender, guter Film, obwohl es wenig Kampfszenen (bes. Einzelkämpfe) gibt, dafür teils gute Dialoge mit recht höchwertigem psychologischen Inhalt.
Also wenn jemandem Hero gefällt (wie mir sehr), dann ist dies wahrscheinlich 60-70% davon, also doch nennenswert, da ja die meisten solcher Filme nicht mal 50% von Hero erreichen aus meiner Sicht.
Aus mehreren anderen Rezessionen ist zu entnehmen, dass der Film auf die Hälfte gekürzt ist! Dann versteh ich jetzt auch, warum er teils unvollständig wirkt, wie wenn etwas fehlen würde. Werd mich mal nach dem Original mit fast 300 min umschauen (welches wahrsch. 5 Sterne verdient).

Sheer escapism
Very good entertainment movie. I am a fan of Zhan Yimou movies, and this is the first John Woo that I have seen. Spectacular battle scenes, great special effects, not bad chinese acting, and a reasonable plot line. 5.5 hours is a long time, but two discs spread over two weeks, its enjoyable. If you want good value for money, great battle scenes, and pure escapism during lockdown, this is great.

No.83 Singapore Vermicelli - £6.95.
Imagine my surprise when I first sat down to watch the expose of the double life of the 'ever youthful ' lead singer of The Shadows, from tennis playing heterosexual singing in the rain bon viveur Dorian Gray figure to seedy Communist double dealing Anthony Blunt wannabee. How disappointed I was when instead of " Congratulations " I was faced with a film that regrettably could only be understood by the wonderful staff at my local Chinese Takeaway ( quick plug for Hotwinds, you never know!). Luckily for them there were English subtitles as they are all third generation Chinese and have never been to China. They told me that this is the two disc 286 mins version and they rated it very highly for both video and audio. I've yet to see it as they lent it to their mates at the Happy Valley in town so when I get it back Pangu only knows.

simply an outstanding experience
I bought the cinema release DVD and thought that was really good, but this extended version blows it away and is a must see if you thought the shorter version was OK but was a little hit and miss in the story and editing. If you think you know John WOO's work then think again. This film is a cinematic treat, majestic, humorous, poignant, extremely moving in places and very intelligent. The fight scenes are cleverly shot and highly entertaining (I kept skipping back to the beginning of them several times) The battles scenes are better than anything LOTR has to offer. The music is fantastic too (buy the soundtrack if you can)and adds to the depth of the whole movie. What can I say, it really is a masterpiece. I must admit at over 4 hours for the feature I thought it might drag in places but it kept me completely hooked. The only minor criticism is the subtitles are sometimes hard to read, but that's a minor issue. Buy it, watch it, love it.

Red Cliff - A film to remember
We had tried to see this film at the cinema but the projector broke down 30 mins before the end so we were keen to see the DVD. The Special Edition is much longer than the Cinema version (set aside 4 hours) but this only gives greater depth and understanding to what is truely a cinematic experience. Beautifully acted and filmed the sub titles do not detract from what is an entertaining and and at times edge of the seat visual experience that keeps you guessing until the very end as to what the outcome will be. If you have seen the shorter cinema version this longer version will make you realise that a complex film had been unfairly shortened. Great battle scenes and not unecessarily gory for the sake of it yet balanced by some good gentle moments and thoughtful dialogue between the characters. Get in a nice takeaway Chinnese meal and enjoy a feast for the eyes.

Red Cliff double disc review
This title has only just gone on sale in Aus,( for double the price i paid on Amazon).
I have rated it at 4 stars for a number of reasons .
1. The Blu ray transfer is amazing - one of the best i have seen for a live action film. Not a shimmer or shudder to be seen , excellent.
2. Audio is also top notch - make sure your woofer is set low.
3. The miliary tactics on display are impressive - very clever ,( not sure if these are documented fighting tactics or invented for the movie ).
The only sour note would be that the storyline in disc 2 seems to drag a little - or is that my penchant for the battle scenes showing thru ?
All in all , a good film - John Woo has only enhanced his reputation with this release.

Epic sized indeed!!
I bought this item after reading the good reviews published in Amazon and I must say I was not disappointed at all. It starts slow but everything about the movie gets you "hooked". The music, the story, the characters, the "reality" & "believability" of the action being filmed really works in favor of the movie and adds to the truly "epic size" effect. Of course you can't always digest 5h hours in one go (especially if you have kids!) but even watching the two parts a couple of days apart doesnt slow the "Wow" factor or harm the understanding of the story. I liked John Woo's visual style from previous movies, but this one really looks like he was just loosing precious time in Hollywood! And whereas in some previous movies his artifacts (the pigeons, the churches, the duels, the slow motions, etc.) looked a bit "out of place" here they all really blend seamlessly in the story. If you like epic movies of grand size, just buy this one!!

Best Chinese-based film EVER!
This is a film that is rich and detailed and appeals to everyone of your senses. It's the first Blue-ray i've ever purchased and I wasn't dissappointed by any means, the detail and realistic visuals were stunning. I can safely say i'm glad I bought my PS3 now!
This film depicts the romatic-side of ancient battles and warfare whilst showing harsh realities of man and his ambition to win by any means.
The divided lands were created after political upheavel, many people, soldiers and civillians alike have suffered its brutal battles, where now only two major forces are left. The North, controlled by Tsao Tsao, the villain, and the Southlands, controlled by Sun Quan who aids Liu Bei, an important adversary to Tsao Tsao.
All the country knew that the North and Southlands, now divided, must one day unite. That is the grounds of all of China's history. The real question is, how much will be saved and lost during this time of chaos?

Amazing - A Must Buy on Blu-ray....
This is the best Blu-ray disc I have bought so far as the quality of both the picture and audio I feel is better than Kingdom of Heaven or Troy. Some scenes gave the impression that they were 3D it is that detailed.
The story is good and will keep you entertained - even though it is about four and a half hours spread over 2 discs. Don't get the other version of this film as I understand that it is only 2 and a half hours long, so you will miss a lot.
This is a John Woo film so plenty of action and all done on a grand scale - some of the overview shots are amazing.
Ok the extras are lacking and the subtitles are burnt on, no dubbed English version, but don't let that put you off, if you enjoy epic films like this then don't hesitate - JUST BUY IT. Brilliant.

Brilliant Film by John Woo
A long and very involved film that deserves all the accolades heaped on it. If you just want a slash-em-up samurai film, forget it. If, on the other hand, you want complex plots, double cross, conniving, devious twists, supported by fantastic camera work and brilliant battle scenes, then this is the film for you. Don't be put off by the TV showings of this film, they have been hacked to hell and back to fit the schedules. This two disc set includes all the bits that make the film make sense. At just over four and a half hours it's a long film but I do strongly recommend that it is seen all in one go to get the best out of the experience. So get the popcorn ready, plenty of fizzy drink and turn off the mobile. Happy viewing.

Red Cliff - Parts 1 and 2
At last the glorious full version of Red Cliff has come available (rather than the butchered Cinema Release). John Woo's film runs for 280 minutes and engages the viewer from the first. Every scene is perfectly framed by Lu Yue and Zhang Li's magnificent camera work, the editing was spot on (though a few more frames at the end of the tiger hunt would have helped).
Characterisation of the many major players develops well thanks largely to the length of the movie.
The battle scenes are enormous. Certainly there is a lot of blood being spilled but this is kept reasonable. The final hour is devoted to the great battle on land and on the Yangtse River is both dramatic and riveting.

Characterisation of the many major players develops well thanks largely to the length of the movie.
The battle scenes are enormous. Certainly there is a lot of blood being spilled but this is kept reasonable. The final hour is devoted to the great battle on land and on the Yangtse River is both dramatic and riveting.
It was my very first Blu-ray purchase and certainly justified my investment in new equipment. Wow - some battle!!

Ho comprato l'edizione che contiene sia la versione completa (circa cinque ore) sia la versione cinematografica (circa due ore e mezza). Nonostante cinque ore non siano poche il film scorre senza stancare. La versione completa è molto più bella perché alcuni personaggi, ad esempio Sun Shangxiang ( l'attrice Zhao Wei), sono meglio dettagliati. Oltretutto nella versione cinematografica sono state tagliate scene che, nonostante la drammaticità della storia, hanno tocchi ironici. Belle ed epiche sono le scene di battaglia con varie tattiche militari, come la formazione a tartaruga che permette alle forze del sud di sconfiggere 2.000 cavalieri nemici o come la battaglia finale a Red Cliff. Mi è piaciuta una frase, conclusa l'ultima battaglia, pronunciata dal viceré Zhou Yu ( l'attore Tony Leung Chiu Wai) : "Qui nessuno è vincitore". Molto bella la musica, stupende le due canzoni delle sigle finali, cantate in cinese da Alan: Xin • Zhan ~ RED CLIFF ~ e Chi Bi ~ Da Jiang Dong Qu ~ . Il film l'ho cercato proprio dopo aver ascoltato queste due canzoni pubblicate in Giappone.

Tja bei uns in Europa hat es ja Tradition alles was aus dem Auland kommt kräftig zu zerschnippeln und zu verfälschen. schon casablanca wurde dem Publikum in einer verfälschenden nazifreien synchroversion pträsentiert,doch solche Praktiken konnten sich glücklicherweise kaum noch ahlten. ausnahme war hier er italowestern den man regelmäßig ins alberene hinein verfälschte. aber denn och wurden vor allem japansiche und italiensiche filme gekürzt. beid en japansichen viel das "überflüssige" weg, bei den italiensichen das anspruchsvolle, bis aus politfilmen reine ballerorgien geworden waren. dies hat oft den Unmut der Regisseure hervorgerufen und gehört mitlerweile der Vergangenheit an.
Nun denkt man, toll wir können endlcih wieder Filme anschauen ohne uns um die Fassung kümmern zu müssen, ohne aufwändiz zu importieren oder eirnach zu resignieren. Doch da habenw ir uns kräftig geschnitten. Denn nun kommen die asiaten zu dem Schluss, dass wir gaar nciht fähig sid ihre Filme zu verstehen. Deshlab werden regelmäßig Europaversionen rausgebracht, die die niederen Gelüste der Barbaren befriedigen sollen. Bei diesem Werk wurde das ganze auf die Spitze getrieben. Dast die hälfte des Filmes fehlt. Nun aber achtung, es handelt sich nciht um irgendeinen beliebigen zusammenschnitt, sondern um eine vom Produzenten gzeielt hergestellte alternativversion. Das führt zwar zu eineme twas zusammenhängenden Ergebnis, aber lässt auch den Schluss zu, dass nun, wo wir die asianten nciht mehr zensieren, sie es selber tun. wenn hier nun nur die ein doer andere eklrärende Szene reingeschnitten und die ein doer ander länge entfernt wordenw äre, wäre es ja nciht so tragisch. aber die art der schnitte zeigt,dass man den europäer für einen reina auf action fixierten dämlack hält, dem keine konfrontation mit etwas fremden doer anspruchsvollen zuzutrauen ist. Und ich frage mcih dann ernstahft, ob ich jemadnen überhaupt noch erstnehmen soll, wenn er ich für einen idioten hält. Und die nächsten europaversionen von diversen Filme sind angekündigt. was können wir tun? sollenw ir uns rächen? wie wäre es mit einer zwei stundenversion von das boot, oder einen 90 minutenversion von Lawrence von Arabien? wenn ich nun dies damit begründen würde, dass die asiaŽten gar nciht fähig seien, unsere filme zu verstehen, würde man mich als Rassisten brandmarken. An epic movie dramatising historical characters/heros. Visually stunning.
This is a movie adaptation of a well known historical event. Casting of the characters was excellent and fitted historical descriptions. Of course, the director took an artistic licence and dramatized the scenes somewhat but it didn't detract from the original story.
As some reviewers pointed out, you can't skip the trailers at the beginning but it amounted to no more than 5 minutes. So, don't be put off by those complaints. The disc did cut short a few scenes - e.g. the princess becoming friends with a foot soldier from the enemy camp.
The projected image I used was 15 feet across and the subtitle was just fine. I wouldn't have wanted them larger. However, if you watch it on a plasma or LCD screen, I.guess they might be a bit small.

So glad I watched this
When this film was released in the UK, my friend, who loves Chinese cinema was desperate to see it. Reluctantly I agreed to see this movie with him. To cut a long story short, that was a very good decision. Even the shortened to western consumption version was outstanding.
When I found this extended version I didn't even hesitate to buy it... and what a *fantastic* price for a blu-ray
This movie is beautifully shot and really makes you appreciate how much effort, and money went into this film. With a budget of 7 BILLION yuan, this was the most expensive oriental movie ever.
No more needs to be said really, but buy it, watch it, and savour it. It will remain in your heart for a long, long time.

Just wow
This is John Woo's craftsmanship at its best. Everything John learned over the years comes together in this magnus epos. I truly enjoyed every minute of it. At the beginning I was worried that I could not keep up with reading the English subtitles but soon I found out I did not need to read the subtitles, the acting and the way of telling the story is so good that the pictures speak for themselves.
Yes over 4 hours is long, too long to watch it in one stint. I watched part one two weeks before I watched the second part and I wasn't lost in the beginning of part two the opening credits give a small recap of the first movie.
I wish Hollywood would make more movies like this one.

Toller Film
Ein chinesischer Monumental-Historien-Blockbuster über einen der mit den vielen Gründungsmythen Chinas zusammenhängenden fiktiven Ereignisse. Handwerklich perfekt gemacht, wenn auch für auf US-Filme konditionierte Augen an vielen Stellen gewöhnungsbedürftig aber deswegen nicht minderschlecht.

Without repeating other reviews here I can only say words like, amazing, beautifully shot, great characters, historical in-depthness etc. etc. etc.
You must get the 5 hour film otherwise as one review here has already said, it just won`t make sense. My wife did comment that she thought it went on a bit in certain places, but that really is the whole idea of a 5 hr film in the first place, to explore the ` nitty grittys` of characters and events leading upto the main battle of `Red Cliff`.
Buy the blu ray it`s just amazing and worth every penny! Just make sure you`ve got a whole night to appreciate it, because It`s like a full English breakfast with two of everything on the plate, it takes ages to eat and digest!!!

Visually stunning
This film is enjoyable for the cinematography alone, but the rest is equally engaging. I bought the epic four hour version and was engaged throughout. The two citicisms I have are not of the film itself:
Small subtitles are difficult to read. They should have been placed below the picture to improve contrast. However, moving closer to the screen did the trick. A shame some other reviewers never thought of this before rubbishing the film on this account. Incidentally, I would rather have this than a film dubbed in English, which is for the culturally-challenged only.
Could not skip the adverts at the beginning but it was possible to increase playback speed to reduce the tedium. A shame some other reviewers never thought of this before rubbishing the film. Again.

Good movie
I just bought the movie because this is the only chinese war movie that has great music and great actors in it.
I like Takeshi Kaneshiro as an actor and that's why i bought the movie. He plays a great role in this movie as Zhuge Liang (Kongming)
Great battle scenes. Touching dramatic scenes. Great music.

Spectacular but probably too much
The cut-down 2.5 hour version is certainly unfortunate and one should certainly buy the full version.
The film is enjoyable and overall one can't quibble much. The only thing I found a bit off-putting is that the generals are not only great leaders, but great warriors. Well, not merely great warriors but super-human warriors. Who needs an army when one has generals of such stature? Similarly the battle scenes are just a bit too complex and too clever for reality. One applauds the director for coordinating it, while thinking that it is all far too unrealistic especially for a film based on history. Nonetheless certainly worth watching.

The best film I've seen in a long time
I saw an abridged version of this first, in the original Chinese. Then I found out more and wanted to see the whole thing. I got it and I will never regret it. The film is a true masterpiece: the characters are fun, the action set-pieces are jaw-dropping, the emotional subplots are very moving and the overall production values are off the chart compared to a few other Chinese wuxia films I've watched and enjoyed. This is very like a classical RPG video game rendered into film form, only based on history and far more approachable by all types, with characters on all sides you can sympathize with. In short, the best wuxia film in years.

I own many Chinese war/battle cinema titles including Three kingdoms, crouching tiger, hero, house of flying daggers, warlords and many many more. Not to mention my Bruce lee, donnie yen, jackie chan, jet lee and tony jaa collections.
Red cliff is up there with the best of them if not the best. It is a visually stunning action epic and is easily better than any of its rival chinese history battle war films.
The two disc special edition is the only way to watch this. Avoid the cut down version as it makes little to no sense. Sit back and relax into watching over 4 hours of great Chinese cinema by the awesome director that is John Woo!!!!!

A Very Chinese View Of War
If the Western view of cinematic war is centred on morale courage and physical strength (see GLADIATOR) RED CLIFF shows the Chinese pleasure in clever ruses, self-sacrifice and culture. The section of the film surrounding the change in the wind being very well sketched. Of course they still have their fighting cliches; if THE PATRIOT showed the revolutionary war as a huge free-form bayonet fight then RED CLIFF sees the generals as heroes in the same mould as the Iliad. The result is closer to TROY than ALEXANDER THE GREAT; especially the chap who shoulder-charges the horses. This is popular cinema but I found it full of interesting event within the confines of its heroic form.
It's also a ripping yarn.

На самом деле это не совсем моя чашка чая
Несмотря на то, что масштаб и фотография в этом фильме превосходны, особенно на Blu-Ray, лично я не могу смириться с тем, что потенциально захватывающий военный фильм разрушается несколькими главными героями, обладающими чудесной способностью в одиночку уничтожать большое количество врагов, которые стоят вокруг героя, ожидая своей очереди быть убитыми. убит - это настолько нелепо, что портит в остальном захватывающий фильм.
К сожалению, в итоге я быстро промотал фрагменты этой потенциальной эпопеи.

I had to right a review on here to let others know about this film.
I regard myself as a big fan of these type of movie and this has to be one of the best i have seen. I orginally bought the shorter version dvd but after reading the reviews on here decided to purchase the extended version. I am glad I didnt watch the shorter version now.
Amazing soundtrack, storyline, choreography, the scale of some of the battles are spectacular and I thouroghly enjoyed every minute.
If you consider yourself anything of a fan of this genre then just get it. 4 and a half hours of pure epic !!!!

Следовало бы пояснить, что это Red Cliff, части 1 и 2, тогда я бы не тратил деньги впустую на международное издание Red Cliff, часть 2. Я не могу утруждать себя хлопотами по его возврату, несмотря на то, что чувствую легкое раздражение. Я бы дал фильму 5 звезд, если бы не это!

Amazing value for a classic Chinese war movie
This movie is over 4 hours long in two parts on two blu-ray discs. Beautifully made with stunning outdoor shoots and two main battles. Acting is 1st rate, although dialog comes thick and fast, so sometimes hard to keep up reading the subtitles. Also nice interview with the director with how he wanted to make this film in China for years, after being well respected in Hollywood.

Ich habe mir diese Version gekauft und natürlich gleich mit meinem Freund angeschaut!Ich kann nur sagen Atemberaubend!!In dieser Version wurden nur 16 sec bei den Pferdestürzen entfernt was nicht weiter auffällt ansonsten ist es die ungeschnittene Original Version 293 min Laufzeit in Chinesisch mit Englischen Untertitel was aber keines Falls stört!!Wenn man diese voll Version gesehen hat dann fängt man an Constantin Film dafür zu hassen was Sie aus diesem Meisterwerk gemacht haben!!VIeles ist völlig verdreht und bekommt eine ganz andere bedeutung Szenen die teilweise bis zu 20 min gehen wurden komplett entfernt in der deutschen Version..Traurig!!Ich kann nur jeden raten wer Red Cliff Komplett sehen will soll sich dies Version kaufen!!Einfach Klasse!!Danke an die UK das sie sich die mühe gemacht haben die voll Version zu linzensieren!!

Uno dei migliori film di sempre
Questo è sicuramente uno dei film migliori della storia del cinema, straordinario sotto ogni punto di vista: regia straordinaria, immagini favolose, buoni sentimenti e azione a volontà; grandioso e travolgente. Chi non lo vede si perde una delle pietre miliari del cinema. Magnifico.
