I tried to use this on a photo shoot and this flash unit proved to me why you might want to invest in a more capable and reliable flash unit. This unit fired every 6th or 7th shot. I returned it for a much better flash unit. The Sony HVLF43M TTL flash strobe should perform up to speed. You get what you pay for!

This is a great little flash to supplement you small NEX camera and lenses. I bought it for my NEX 6 and find that it's reliable, fact, and the TTL is accurate. Of course the head rotates but doesn't swivel. It cannot be fired remotely by the on-camera flash. I'm mostly and available light guy, but for bouncing light of the ceiling at a party or something like that it's the perfect tool.

I bought this flash to go with my Sony DSC-HX50V/B 20.4MP Digital Camera and was hoping I didn't need any attachments or have issues attaching the flash. I have had none and it works fantastic. I use this for personal use and mainly pictures of my kids and a ton of family. It works much better than the flash that is on the camera. So far, so good. Will update if I start running into issues.

For a small flash this device adds so much to the built in flash on my Nex 6. I like that It allows me to bounce or diffuse flash. My only issue that kept if from a 5 star is that it is a little slower to charge than I would like. I also think that it eats batteries so I am going to switch it to rechargeable batteries to save.
I really like having this for indoor and portrait photos, however if and when Sony makes a better flash for the Nex series cameras I will be upgrading.

The product is fine and does what it says on the box. However it does not quite match up to flashes we have used on other model cameras. Its a little lightweight when it comes to bouncing the flash for lighting room shots but ok for every day use.

There is no alternative right now for Sony NEX-6. It is tiny, light, has telezoom option and bounce option.
Cons - price, short battery life and slow recycle.

I bought this flash to use with my NEX-6--I wanted something smaller than my HVLF60M for use on the camera, and I wanted something that would wirelessly control the HVLF60M off camera. All of that works great, and the HVLF20M is the perfect size for the NEX-6. But I found an additional feature. With the HVLF20N on the camera as a master, the HVLF60M off camera as a slave, the NEX-6 flash setting set to wireless, and the camera mode set to Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, or Manual, you get high speed sync! That's right--you can shoot with shutter speeds all the way up to 1/4000! The normal high speed sync caveat applies--flash range is greatly reduced. And you are limited to one flash group, I think. But this combination delivers a capability that I didn't think the NEX-6 had, and I haven't found reference to anywhere else. Might work with other Sony flash combinations too.

I apologise for the 1 star because the flash itself is just great but the idea of searching for a NEX-7 external flash and the 1st choice was this one and after buying it and turns out that it wont mount on z camera unless with an adapter was just a disapointement.

I am using this flash with the Sony RX 100 II. It works perfectly, and the option of bouncing is fantastic. Evidently that for the size, it is not a professional flash, but it does an amazing job.

I bought this as it said it worked with sony slts but when it arrived it did not fit the A35. There is another model that has a similar number and is a little more expensive that I now believe does. Rather than return it I ordered an adaptor, see my other reviews, and it appears to be working just fine now. Just be careful of ordering this and make sure it will fit your camera first.

works perfectly with my Nex 7 and brighten up the pictures. recommended to folks using Nex 7 with old hotshoe and need a bounce flash than in-build flash.

bought this little guy to go with my new rx100 ii ...have had the rx100 and since the upgrade allows for a bit more flash, and since it is so nice and tiny, i thought i would try it for travel...you know, people pictures in low light that could use a bit more bounce flash than you can get with the built in camera flash...for that purpose i think it will be brilliant...my test shots certainly inspire confidence...now just waiting for a big trip to prove the point...a trip that, this time around, will see me leaving my big boy camera at home :)

Full disclosure, I recently moved from Nikon DSLRs to the Sony NEX format. I did it for size. As good as my Nikon D300 was, I hardly ever took it out because it was like carrying a brick around my neck.
This speedlight is perfect. It is MUCH smaller than the standard DSLR speedlights. The on/off is integrated into the hing where you can fold down the light. So, you fold it up and it's on, fold it back down and it turns off. It has bounce flash (only up, it does not rotate) and straight flash. It also has a built in defuser.
It is pretty simple and has no controls on the flash itself other than the defuser and bounce / no-bounce. All other flash controls are completely in Camera. It's small, light, and simple. Good product.

I really like the light distribution on this flash for my Sony RX100 II. I don't like that I have to store it in a bent condition to shut it off. Bad design. I would also like to use it in a right angle position when shooting but that would shut it off. An on and off switch would be much preferred. Also, the flash is a too expensive....but so are most of its competitors. At least I don't have to pay for film and processing anymore.

It works, and it works well. Unit has direct flash and bounce (there is no in between setting) as well as a close up and telephoto filter. It is effective, but the overall feel of this flash is that it could easily break with normal usage.

Perfect match for NEX 6. Have been trying to buy the higher end Sony Flash. This is soooo good, I am having a difficult time justifying the bigger Flash!

This is a decent flash, with some too clever for its own good design. The gold standard for small bounce-capable flashes is the Nikon SB-400 and I'm still looking for a Sony equivalent.

most importantly it fits the hot shoe on the camera without adapters. I have not given it a real workout yet but I took some test shots when it arrived and it is much better than the onboard flash.

Bought it to use with my RX100 M2...the in-flash on the camera gave better results than the external flash so returned it.
