15max, Just what you would expect from IR
Other reviews seemed confusing or contradicting so I'll lay out the facts and what I observed with this gun (the 3/8 drive 15 max). First off yes, unfortunately the gun is made in China unlike most IR products, but the quality, construction and feel of the gun is comparable to my other USA made IR tools. The gun I received does not leak whatsoever, so if yours does just send it back to amazon and get a new one; it's defective.. For my test I use a 3/8" x 50' rubber airline with no leaks, and 1/4" NPT V-type air fittings. 3hp 30 gal compressor running 100 psi in the line. Oiled the gun with standard air tool oil as soon as I took it out of the box. I used a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts on my truck to see what the limit of breakaway torque this gun will make. The lug nuts are 9/16" -18 clean, rust free, dry threads and 3/4" hex nuts. Using a deep impact 3/8" drive 3/4" socket and no extension I found that the limit of this gun is between 154 and 158 ft lbs of breakaway torque on that specific size of lug nut. I tried multiple times and multiple nuts, and it consistently would not loosen bolts torqued to 160 lb ft and would always loosen torqued to 150 lb ft. 155 lb ft is 50/50. When tightening the lugs until the gun completely stopped turning the nuts came out to between 120-130 ft lbs tight. You might think that's not even close to the advertised torque, but the manufacturer torque ratings are always some made up number in a specific test to make the gun perform as best as possible, with no real standard. Either way, that's more than enough torque for most real world applications like brake, suspension and under the hood work. This should not be your main gun by any means, but it is a specialty tool for tight spaces and does exceptionally well at that. It's also very cheap for an IR tool... Only ~$30 more than the harbor freight earthquake? Maybe I'm biased to the brand, but it seems like a no brainier to me. Earthquake might last 10 years, IR will outlive you.

a real bolt breaker
so when I first got this I was pretty leery because it is so light and quite and at first I was not convinced straight out of the box but after a month it just seems to be getting stronger as it breaks in. I used it to take off 3/4 ton truck lug nuts just for giggles and it did it. On the highest setting it reefs it down hard and keeps twisting to the point that if you don't pay attention it will twist the head of a 3/8 bolt. I am pleased and will now buy the 1/2 as well. It's also small enough to get into tight places. Best impact I've used by a wide margin.

The last impact I'll ever have to buy!
When I took this tool out of the box I was immediately impressed with it's design and attention to detail. It's half the size and weight of my other two impact wrenches but I was more impressed with it's power to take off some very tight fasteners.
The wrench has full power counter clockwise for removing nuts and bolts and an adjustment for tightening. Powerful, lightweight, high quality, and easy to use, perfect for home or shop. It's not cheep but then again no quality tool is.
This impact wrench will replace my other two half inch impact wrenches.

450 ft-lb? Not even close...
I bought this for my shop for wheel installation and removal from my car. Even at the highest torque setting with 95psi continuous from my compressor it doesn't generate enough torque to tighten my lug-nuts even close to spec @ 105 ft-lb. I can literally hold the 17mm socket in my hand while it's spinning and it will just ineffectively go into impact mode without even twisting my grip. I haven't measured it, but I would be surprised if it's delivering even 45 ft-lb let alone 450.

Great impact gun, great for automotive shop use!
Great impact gun! Plenty of power and extremely reliable for everyday use. I use mine daily at the dealership everything from rotates to removing subframe and crank pulley bolts. There have been several bolts I have had to use my snap on impact however. This gun is a stubby and does have its limitations. However in the automotive world this thing will remove 95% of nuts and bolts on cars. I have had it for several months now, the grip is comfortable, it's extremely light compared to a full size 1/2in. It is moderately loud, not quiet by any means but it does make a good bit of noise I would rate the sound level a 7 out of 10 for impacts. Overall a great purchase I'm happy with. I also have owned the 3\8 for over a year now and am just as happy, it works great and has had daily use also.

Pretty strong for a compact gun
Pretty strong for a compact gun. I had a Mac tools gun that I had to get rid of within a month because it wouldn’t remove most lug nuts. This thing zips off all lugnuts and brake caliper bolts with no problem. Even zipped off a staked axle nut. You will never be disappointed with IR. Amazon has the best pricing around

This thing rips
Tons of power compact package!! Keep in mind the dial for power is reversed when in reverse. So in reverse turn the dial to the left for more power and in forward to the right for more power. For those that said it was low on power probably did the same as me turned the dial to the right and it was w bit anemic. Then messing around found that the dial reverses made all the difference

Disappointing, given that it's Ingersoll Rand
I bought this to replace a 50-year-old but still very sound cast-iron NPK 3/8 pistol-grip tool that was stolen. This one is significantly heavier and bulkier, so much so that I think it's just a half-inch drive model with a 3/8 drive nose. The NPK was all metal, whereas this one has a LOT of plastic parts. I'm now 75 years old, and no longer working professionally, so I guess it'll last me out, but will it still be good 50 years from now? I doubt it. I can tell you that every time I pick it up I will curse the thief who took my NPK. As Stephen Jay Gould explained to us, evolution is NOT always progress.
