Second is the so-so. I don't like the way the water comes out in a stream but I've seen an aerator is available. The flow seems rather weak but I can live with that. The sprayer comes out in a narrow stream and lacks force. After using my ice brew toddy, I take the filter out to the garage and clean it with the 79 dollar faucet that is much more effective.
Now for the negative. The faucet is about 8 months old. Up until a week ago it worked as expected. The spray/stream toggle has malfunctioned. When turned on low, it comes on as a stream. As the volume is increased the stream turns to a spray or oscillates between stream and spray while emitting a vibrating sound. Holding the toggle keeps it on one setting or the other but once released it has a mind of its own. I cleaned the inlet screen and outlet to no avail. Rather disappointing. Hopefully I can find a replacement end so I don't have to buy and install a completely new faucet.
Without the toggle issue I'd give it four stars.

Panicked, I replaced it with some basic, but lesser brand, faucet. Big mistake I paid for, for a couple years, but I rectified this Christmas. I know cheap present.
I wasn't allowed to install the new faucet and wasn't home when the plumber came to install the new faucet. I received a call saying, something is wrong with the faucet, water was coming out in a trickle. It was broken and we would have it return it. I was put on the phone with the plumber, who asked me what to do? Put the old one back on and we will figure something out later. That wasn't cheap, Grohe wouldn't replace an, already installed faucet, but said talk to customer service and they would help with any problems we described. To do this, I had to reinstall.
Before starting the install, I timed the old faucet filling a 2 quart measuring cup, 20+ seconds, several trials. I put on the Grohe Essence and noticed right away, the water flowed clear and quiet. There are no aerator screens to disrupt the flow, put bubbles in the stream and create the noise of a typical faucet. I too, was pretty sure the flow was less, so I got out the measuring cup and ran the same test. The Grohe filled 2 quarts a full second faster. Hot, cold, medium, still faster than the old faucet. Thankfully, I had video tape proof of the old faucet to compare to the live proof of the Essence.
Nice, elegant design. Very good flow rate. Tall, so it can fill virtually any pot you set on the counter, not in the sink.
If I had to come up with a minor drawback, it would be a little more splash while washing or rinsing things not held down in the sink. This is due to flow and height, but is a minor trade off for me.

UPDATE: After a month or so of use: unless there is a specific technique for using this fixture without having water splash everywhere, I am finding this very nice looking fixture to be a real pain; the design - which accelerates the velocity of the water - makes it impossible to put anything under the flow without splashing, unless the flow is diminished to a trickle. An expensive design that needs to be re-thought. If there is something I am failing to understand, I would appreciate hearing about it.
AND THE FINAL UPDATE: We are returning it.

Functions great.....love it
Buying experience.....no headaches....the way it should be....fast delivery and no defects.
thank you

First of all, you'll need a baseplate for most installations as the faucet does not come with one. This one:
Hansgrohe 14019001 Baseplate Kitchen Fits All, 10 Inch, Chrome
fits perfectly and the chrome matches the faucet. It costs around $40.
Next, the instructions are not particularly helpful for the non-plumbers among us. We hired a plumber for the installation. He was able to complete the task in about 80 minutes and charged $85. Note that if you have a separate spray attachment on your sink, you'll need to remove that and cap the hole.
The faucet has a switch on the top to go from smooth flow to spray, and the end of the faucet can be pulled out so that you can fill pots that are beside the sink using full flow. This is a significant feature.
This is not a small faucet, and it's just a little too tall for a small kitchen with a standard sized double sink. However, while it might look a little disproportionate, this improves the convenience factor since there will never be the possibility of something not fitting under the faucet and into the sink. It's a great faucet for larger sized sinks.
The handle works well to adjust both flow rate and temperature. Note that the faucet favors the right-handed person due to the position of the handle. No leaks, drips, or other annoyances. In use, the faucet is quiet. I'm very happy with the end result.

Now about the Essence. Its minimalist design and shiny chrome make for a beautiful faucet. Water flow is superb. The push button control on the sprayer is easy to operate. A press of the forward located button delivers a strong spray. Pressing the rear button returns the faucet to a steady stream. There is no way to stop the flow of water with the sprayer. To stop the flow, one must use the single handle. As one would expect with a Grohe Faucet, the handle action is buttery smooth. This smoothness is mirrored in the spout's rotation. You will not find a smoother rotating faucet.
I installed the Essence myself. Installation was easy. The most difficult was removing the old Moen fixture; it had more or less corroded in place. The old faucet used 1/2" pipe thread connectors and 1/2" compression connectors. The Grohe uses 3/8" across the board. That was fine, though, because my copper water supply pipes are 3/8". The faucet's hoses, however, were not long enough to reach the supply pipes. A quick trip to a home supply store solved that problem. The only other hiccup was connecting my Aqua Pure under sink filter. My Aqua Pure utilizes 1/2" connectors so I had to purchase adapters. Not a big deal.
Installed, the Essence is large. But it looks good and works great.

The handle is smooth... Silky smooth? maybe... but it felt like quality and not like it was going to be damaged even after years of use. The extendable spray is both stream and spray by its selection button and when releasing the wand, it goes right back in place like it knows its supposed to. The neck of the faucet rotates to get out of your way when needed and its a single hold design.
Top quality, if you like the simplistic, quality look that wont take away from your counter, sink and backsplash.. this is it.

The one thing that did bothered me about this $332 faucet is that no cover plate is included. In other words, if this faucet is intended for use as a replacement for an existing 2, 3, or 4 hole kitchen faucet installation, you will need to purchase a matching cover plate to conceal the unused holes as a separate item. Not a huge deal, but every other kitchen faucet I have ever purchased included a matching cover plate in the product box.
I am willing to forgive the above oversight because once you get this faucet installed, the features you will note are so incredible. The single-lever control of water with 360° swivel radius and forward-rotating handle prevents interference with your backsplash no matter how tight your installation. There is an integrated temperature limiter to prevent scalding. This is a really nice safety feature. This faucet has a locking dual-spray diverter that allows for seamless switching between spray and regular water flow. The operation of the lever control is called SilkMove. Although such manufacturer names are usually way overstated, not so here. This lever really moves incredibly smoothly and precisely.
Overall, this faucet is incredibly well designed, engineered, and constructed. It is solid and will probably outlast everything else in your kitchen. Installation is about standard for kitchen faucets, although is you are a beginning DIYer, you might want to get the help of a more experienced friend, or at least watch some of the helpful videos on youtube before you get started. Once you complete your installation, you will be admiring your work for years to come.

I like the high design so I can fit large items under it.
The instructions are inadequate and I only managed with them because I'm a Carpenter and have experience installing faucets. If I was inexperienced or typical dyi or homeowner I'd probably have had to hire it out. The instructions are visual and those are fine, but they need to be accompanied with written instructions with numbered steps.
It's a single hole design and does not come with a beauty ring if you want to install it in your existing three hole sink.
Don't forget to put the small white filter/strainer in or you'll have to go back and do it.

1/2 pt dink for the instructions. If you are not handy, no shot you are installing this based on the instructions.
1/2 pt dink for lack of kitchen faucet cover. For 350 bucks come on and include that so I don't have to order one to cover the two empty holes.
The good;
Beautiful faucet that is very functional. It is very sharp and the hose attachment and height of the faucet allows for large pots and pans to be cleaned without a mess. The chrome is top quality and it def will look good in your kitchen. If you like the look you will love it in your kitchen.
Quick Update - 6/7/16
Although I got this product for free through Vine, the spray nozzle became defective. I contacted the company and told them of the issue and they sent out a new nozzle without any question. I raised the rating from 4 stars to 5 stars based on the excellent customer service.
Kudos to a company that stands behind their products. Thank you Grohe.
