Good Machine "But" instructions poor
This thing will work BUT the manual (although is good English) is not real clear on the sequence required. It leads you to believe that the function sequence to copy from VHS to DVD is "Copy" that is WRONG that is to copy off cable or air. The feature to copy VHS to DVD is "DUB", second thing required when it is done is that you must "finalize" the DVD, otherwise it will only play in this machine but not in another DVD player. Last it can only copy as the tape is played, You don't have to watch it once started Just switch your HDMI input (note an HDMI cable gives the best viewing ) you have to spend big bucks to get a high speed machine, also you can play back and edit (skip parts) the DVD Before you finalize it but not after. There are a couple U-Tube videos on these machines that are a big help, doesn't matter what brand name they are all similar. I was going to return it before I learned what I was doing wrong. The manual describes each function but no clue on the proper sequence.

Use it for Family Archival
Ordinarily, buying combo electronics is chancy- if one part dies, the remainder is like a 3-legged horse. However, the purpose here is to copy and archive family movies. It will only take Four steps, including pressing the 'stop' button. Yes, the quality depends upon the resolution of the original VCR, but this is the simplest way to fulfill requests from family to archive old tapes.
Additionally, the DVD or VCR can be played to the TV. If you cable it correctly, even an incoming program can be recorded. It offers multiple outputs to match your TV, and the manual is well organized, with illustrations, written in complete English sentences. (I cannot judge the short Espanol section in back).
I think it is a good value, performing its' function well.

About the best money can buy.
This VCR has one really big stand-out feature: it up-scales the composite video and S-Video inputs to HDMI! Definitely a good reason to keep this VCR around long after the VCR and DVD parts wear out. The VHS tapes played on this deck also come out on the HDMI connector too.
However the upscaling has a lot of lag (maybe 250ms?) so it's not appropriate for playing old video games over HDMI. Works just fine for everything else.
Otherwise it's a pretty standard VCR/DVD recorder combo. You can dub VHS tapes to DVD and DVD discs to VHS. DVD copies of VHS tapes look good with a clean picture and clear stereo audio. The interface is clean and nothing feels cheap or flimsy about it. It hasn't made any coasters yet after a few months of use.
The VCR has no analog or digital tuner, meaning there's no RF input to connect devices that are RF only. Other than that it supports just about every input and output type you can think of: S-Video, composite, component, HDMI, digital audio, etc. Overall it's a really good VCR.

Good quality!!
I am so happy with this VCR/DVD combo. I shopped around for about a week and kept coming back to this one and I'm glad I made the right decision. Here a few details to know that I had to research before knowing what I wanted.
This combo will record VHS to DVD (the correct discs only) and will record DVD to VHS.
Remember to read over the manual because it has some very important info. I'm not crazy about the layout of the manual but I got used to it.
You can record from TV with the correct discs if you are also a satellite or cable customer (external tuners). The cables have to be plugged into both the combo box and/or the cable or satellite box.
And the quality of the DVDs are incredible, we are still amazed.

I purchased some Phillips discs and they worked better but it got to the point where it would ...
I gave this one star since I couldn't rate it less than that! It would not accept a DVD blank at first but after several tries, I did get it to load. But only one out of 7 or 8 DVD's would not load. It would give me a message saying that it could not record of the disc. I read some reviews and there were some issues re: low quality, no name discs. I purchased some Phillips discs and they worked better but it got to the point where it would not load any disc whatsoever. There are other issues with this machine but I don't think they're worth mentioning since the main issue keeps this from being functional. DON'T BUY THIS MACHINE. I'm going to return it and buy something of better quality.

It does a good job of "dubbing" from VHS to DVD
We had a bunch of VHS tapes just sitting and collecting dust in a closet. I had wanted to get a VHS to DVD recorder and I found the Funai recorder. I've been watching my old home movies over and over again...ON DVD now. It does a good job of "dubbing" from VHS to DVD. the picture is as good as if not a little better than the original. I am happy with the Funai VHS to DVD recorder. The only problem I have is keeping enough DVD-R discs around to copy on to. For less than $200, I have a lifetime of memories transferred from VHS to DVD.

Does the Basics Just Fine
I bought this recorder in order to record VHS to DVD. I assume that is why most buy a VCR / DVD Recorder. It is priced lower than competitors and it does that feature just fine. I gave it only 3 stars because it does not allow you to name the disc, change the thumbnail on the individual tracks, or give you a real top DVD menu. All you can do is record and name the tracks. The thumbnail it shows is automatically set to whatever image was recorded first.

I researched VCR to DVD before buying and this had the best ratings.
I bought this before Christmas to transfer some old VCR family tapes to DVDs....I took out the extended warranty which I don't usually do...the VCR side wouldn't rewind....it wouldn't transfer from VCR to DVD or vice-versa....I called Asurion and sent it back to them to be repaired...they kept it for a month and returned it...they replaced the DVD mechanism and upgraded internal software....still will not transfer from VCR to DVD....will not play a tape or DVD...called again...they will return my call within three days...here we go again...I paid for this converter before Christmas and still can't use it....I definitely got a lemon....I researched VCR to DVD before buying and this had the best ratings...so frustrating to have my money tied up and have to wait and wait some more....I have had three different people try to work this thing including an IT Tech who agreed that it's a lemon...
